  • Boiled feed is obtained by mixing and boiling agricultural by-products such as rice straw, rice bran, and bean curd with grains. The study explored the change in fatty acid, free amino acid, nucleotide, mineral, cholesterol, myoglobin and collagen of longissimus dorsi muscle in Hanwoo steers fed with boiled feed. Forty steers, 20 heads per group, were divided into two groups: a control group and a boiled feed group. The steers were raised for 10 months. The boiled feed group was enriched with palmitoleic acid, oleic acid, arachidonic acid and unsaturated fatty acids compared with the control group. There were no significant differences in amino acid and nucleic acid composition between the two groups. The boiled feed group contained higher levels of iron and manganese in the boiled feed group compared with the control group. The total cholesterol level was significantly increased, whereas calorie levels, myoglobin and collagen composition showed no differences. As the supply of boiled feed increases the content of fatty acids, unsaturated fatty acids and minerals related to flavor, it should be a feed that leads to the production of high-quality beef.

  • For the pressurized propellant supply system of liquid rocket, feed pressure is determined with respect to the chamber pressure of normal combustion state. However, during ignition period the initial chamber pressure is atmosopheric. This may cause overflow, hard-start and even critical damage for the engine. This paper proposes an improved propellant feed system for the stable combustion of liquid rocket. The proposed system utilizes the cavitating venturi to provide stable mass flow rate. Cavitating venturi offers unique flow control capabilities at normal and abnormal combustion state, because flow rate is soley dependent on the upstream absolute pressure and fluid properties, but independent on th downstream condition. Experimental variables are propellant feed pressure and chamber pressure. The effectiveness of cavitating venturi increased when the ratio of actual feed pressure to the cavitating venturi design pressure is increased. It is also found that Kerosene if more effective to supply stable mass flow rate than LOx.

  • This paper presents a fully digital controlled power supply unit for the wireless controlled dimmable LED lighting system. The proposed power supply designed using a fly-back converter, which is directly controlled by a microprocessor. Although the proposed circuit does not sense the AC input current and has not AC input voltage feed-forward, it can achieve a high power factor. The proposed power supply directly regulates the output power for LED loads using the PWM and PFM control of the fly-back converter without additional regulator. For a wireless remote control function, the Zigbee modem is equipped in the proposed power supply. A prototype set-up has been built and tested. Through the experiment with a prototype set-up, the usefulness of the proposed power supply is verified.

  • Population growths of earthworm were investigated when the earthworm populations with different levels of initial densities per unit area were fed with cow dung mixed with paper mill sludge. The tested levels of earthworm densities were as follows; $1kg/m^2$, $2kg/m^2$, $3kg/m^2$, $5kg/m^2$. There were no significant differences in population growth rates 60 and 90 days after feed supply among the tested densities of earthworm. Therefore, it was suggested that initial densities of earthworm populations per unit area higher than $3kg/m^2$ should not be favorable because of the cost for purchasing earthworm. Vermicomposting rates of earthworm on feed were also investigated when different amounts of feed were supplied repeatedly to unit area of nursery bed with $5kg/m^2$ of initial densities earthworm populations. The tested amounts of feed at each supplying time were as follows; $16kg/m^2$, $24kg/m^2$, $32kg/m^2$, $40kg/m^2$. The more the amount of feed at each supplying time, the higher vermicomposting rate and population growth rate. Therefore, it should be more favorable for earthworm breeders to supply more than $40kg/m^2$ of feed at each supplying time, because it would reduce time and labor cost.

  • The low feed intake immediately after weaning is responsible for villous atrophy and reduced growth rate in newly-weaned pigs. Overcoming this drawback will produce beneficial results for swine producers, and this warrants an understanding of the factors affecting the feed intake in newly-weaned pigs. In fact, a plethora of factors exert influences on feed intake in newly-weaned pigs, and these factors encompass health status, creep feeding, weaning age, mixing of litters, environment, dietary nutrient level and balance, palatability of ingredients, forms of diet presentation, water supply and quality, and stockmanship. Due to the complexity of the factors that affect the feed intake of weaned pigs, a comprehensive approach should be adopted to overcome the low feed intake problem right after weaning. It warrants mention that it is almost impossible to completely restore the feed intake just after weaning to pre-weaning level in terms of energy intake through dietary means which are available for being practiced economically and/or technically in current swine production. However, a refined dietary regime will certainly alleviate the low feed intake problem in the immediate postweaning period.

  • Internet Data Centers (IDC), as essential facilities for modern IT industry, typically have scores of MW of concentrated electric loads. Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) are necessary for the power feed system of IDCs because of stable power requirement. Thus, conventional AC power feed systems of IDCs have three cascaded power conversion stages such as (AC-DC), (DC-AC), and (AC-DC), which results in very low conversion efficiency. On the contrary, DC power feed systems need just a single power conversion stage (AC-DC) supplying AC mains power to DC server loads, which gives comparatively high conversion efficiency and reliability. This paper compares the efficiencies between 220V AC power feed system and 300V DC power feed system on equal load conditions which were established in Mok-Dong IDC of Korea Telecom company (KT). Experimental results show that the total operation efficiency of the 300V DC power feed system is around 15% higher than that of the 220V AC power feed system.

  • In current animal production in Japan, a large surplus of nitrogen and phosphorus is given to animals as their feed which are mostly imported from outside of our own country. Today, an excess of nitrogen and phosphorus from animal manure has been spread out of the area of animal production and the surroundings. These components have become the major reason for eutrophication of ground, surface and inland water. Nutritional studies for the reduction of nitrogen and phosphorus from animal waste has been done by many researchers. The reduction of excess protein in animal feed and the supplementation of deficient essential amino acids to feed have a possibility to increase the biological value of feed and to reduce nitrogen excretion, especially, via urine. The use of phytase activity to degrade phytate and to release utilizable inorganic phosphorus make it possible to cut an excess supply of feed additive inorganic phosphorus and to reduce phosphorus excretion from animal waste.

  • Along with the recent changes in animal feed supply circumstances, many enzyme and probiotic feed supplements have been introduced and applied to pigs and chicken diets. Therefore, both selection of the appropriate feed supplements and their proper supplementation becomes critical to justify the supplementation. Meta-analysis was proposed as an appropriate tool to assess the large amount of relevant information. In this review, reliable data from recent publications was compounded then analyzed to determine the best practice of effective enzyme supplementation from the perspectives of animal species, age, characteristics of feed, target substrates, optimum multi enzymes combination and intended objectives. The results of the analysis suggested pratical methods of probiotic supplementation regarding intestinal microbiota, physiological limitation of probiotics, maximization of the probiotic benefit and synergism with prebiotic supplements.

  • Almost 1/4 of all the coconuts in the world is produced in the Philippines. During periods of high supply of coconuts it would be better to feed coconut meat to farm animals for conversion into meat and eggs. Three studies were conducted at the Visayas State College of Agriculture, Baybay, Leyte, Philippines from April, 1983 to April, 1985 to determine the response of Mallard ducks, Muscovy ducks and broilers to fresh coconut meat supplementation in their diets. Results showed that Mallard ducks on ration with coconut meat performed similarly with those on ration without coconut meat. Feed cost per dozen eggs was reduced by 28-30% with coconut meat. Feed cost per unit gain of muscovy ducks was reduced by 32-37% by coconut meat supplementation. With broilers, feed conversion, gain in weight and breast weight were significantly improved by coconut meat supplementation. Return-above-feed cost increased with increasing level of coconut meat in the ration.

  • The load of power plants changes every from time to time according to which steam flow of boiler changes. the feed water control is very important for the power plant to be operated in its stability conditions. In case of circulation type boiler, the instability of feed water control leads to instability of drum level control. The higher level of drum water can induce bad quality steam to go into turbine which means the possibility of damage. The lower level of drum water can induce the tubes of boiler water wall to be overheated. In case of once through type boiler, the instability of feed water control leads to bad cooling of superheaters. The less the feed water flow is, the more heated the superheater is. It is necessary for the turbine driving feed water pump to be controlled for the optimal feed water flow in the large capacity power plant. The speed of turbine is controled for the feed water flow. By the way, the optimal control of steam valve is necessary for the speed control of turbine. Therefore, the various kinds of the steam valve structures are introduced in this paper
