  • A study for investigating the effects of the cutting conditions(feed rate, radial depth of cut, cutting speed) and the tool diameter on the circumferential geometry of the cyl indrically end-mi1led workpiece is described. In this work, the circumferential geometry is characterized by the roundness error. Experimental results show that the circumferential geometry is directly affected by the material removal per tooth, which is defined as a function of the cutting speed, the feed rate and the radial depth of cut. And, the radial depth of cut is revealed to be the most critical condition among them. It is also found that the roundness error decreases when the tool diameter is larger under the same cutting conditions.

  • A dynamic simulation study on SCR process in GTL process was carried out in order to find optimum operation conditions for pilot plant operation. Optimum operating conditions for SCR synthesis gas process were determined by changing operation variables such as feed temperature and pressure. It was also assumed that physical properties of reaction medium were governed by RKS (Redlich-Kwong-Soave) equation. The effect of temperature and pressure on synthesis gas process $H_2$/CO ratio were mainly examined. Dynamic simulation results were fed back to feed operation condition for optimizing productivity, especially for appropriate condition to FT (Fischer-Tropsch) synthesis unit.

  • Production and measurement of a super-polished few-ppm-scattering mirror substrate are investigated. In order to improve the surface roughness directly determining scattering, the super-polishing process using Bowl-Feed technique is tried. The surface quality of the super-polished substrate is estimated by the phase-measuring interferometer. For the reliable roughness measurement using the interferometer, data averaging method is applied so that the optimal data averaging condition, 30 phase-data averaging and 20 intensity-data averaging, minimizing the measurement error is experimently searched. Based on the optimal data averaging condition, surface roughness of home-made mirror substrate is measured to be less than $0.5{\AA}$ rms corresponding to 2-ppm total-integrated-scattering.

  • In this study, to determine the optimum fermentation process for the feed production of food wastes and estimate the practical value of fermented feed using kudzu creeper and sawdust as bulking agent. This study considered initial C/N ratio control as the fermentation process variables. The results are summarized as follows. Minimum water contents of byproducts in the fermentation feed production showed 3994(kudzu), 37%( sawdust) at the C/N ratio 25 and 45%(kudzu, sawdust) at the C/N ratio 35. Temperature variations in the fermentation feed production at the C/n ratio 25 indicated 68'C(kudzu), 70'C (sawdust).Optimum condition of consists of fermentation process of water content, C/N ratio and permeability (porous structure of the mixture). For optimum fermentation of gravitationally, dewatered garbage, the proper mixing ratios of kudzu(moisture contents : 17.3%) and sawdust(moisture contents : 13.2%) were 41% and 39%, respectively Major biological reaction in the aerobic fermentation feed production occurred during 12~14hrs

  • This paper was carried out to know the influence of advanced austempered ductile cast iron (ADI) on the tool life and mechanical properties of drilling machinability. For manufactured method of ADI, the spheroidal graphite cast iron were austenized at 90$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour and then austempered for 2 hour at 37$0^{\circ}C$ in the salt bath. And interrelationship has been investigated between tool life and mechanical characteristics of specimen material on drilling condition when the ordinary and step-feed drilling are carried out to drill holes of specimens. Tensile strength and hardness of ADI decrease and elongation of ADI increases with the increase austempered temperature. It is known that about 2 times of tool life in the case of step-feed decreases compared with ordinary feed due to the high hardness of ADI and hardness ascribed to the fact that retained austenite became to martensite state due to cutting heat in drilling. Under the constant feed rate 0.1mm/rev relation between hardness and length of end tip after drilling can be formularized to Hv=$788.46L^{-0.096}$ for the cutting speed 6.1m/min.

  • To determine whether rearing density affects the hypermelanosis on the blind side (ambicoloration) of olive flounders Paralichthys olivaceus, we reared fry with an unpigmented non-eyed (blind) side in duplicate at densities of 150 individuals/$m^2$ (commercial production density: control) and 450 individuals/$m^2$ (high density group) for 90 days in 1-t dark-green fiberglass reinforced plastics (FRP) tank. We recorded feed intake, feed conversion efficiency (FE), growth and survival, and measured the ratios of staining blind-side area (staining area) and ambicolored fish every 30 days. Daily feed intake (DFI), feed conversion efficiency (FE), growth rate, condition factors, and survival rate were calculated at the end of the experiment. Although the FE was higher in the high-density compared to the control, the two density groups showed similar feed intakes, growth, and survival. The ratio of staining area as well as the ratio of ambicolored fish significantly were significantly higher in the high-density group than in the control from days 30 to 60, but significantly increased and evened out by the end of the experiment (P<0.05). In conclusion, we determined that rearing density is not the main cause of the blind-side hypermelanosis, but found that increasing the rearing density can accelerate the ambicoloration in olive flounders.

  • All accurate and efficient antenna feed model is very important for computing GPR response using the FDTD method In literature, there are several feed models such as the equivalent network in angular-frequency domain, 1-D transmission-line cell, voltage boundary condition in time domain, etc. In this paper, theoretical relationship among the models is investigated. It is found that the above three models become equivalent when a short and lossless feed line can match with its connected transmitter receiver). In view of accuracy and efficiency of the simulation, the FDTD results according to the feed models arc compared with the measured data of the receiving responses for an actual GPR system.

  • The use of antibiotics in Korean swine production has been changing to a restricted use of in-feed antibiotics. These antibiotics, which are also growth promoters, are powerful for disease control. Due to this issue, the swine industry is consistently looking for any kind of alternatives to antibiotics such as new feed ingredients, feed additives, feed formulation practices, or feeding methods to improve pig health and performance. In general, dietary factors provide bioavailable nutrients and/or affect physiological activity to modify the physiological condition, immune system, or microbial population of pigs to improve their performance and health. Thus, it is suggested that dietary factors may be important components in the growth and health management of pigs. Using an alternative grain feed such as rice, barley, and oats, low protein diets or low-high energy diets can be used as solutions to manage the effect of stress factors that cause growth and health problems at specific time points during the stages of pig production. Several studies support that these alternative feeds and dietary factors may improve pig growth and health by changes in intestinal conditions, immunity, or other physiological conditions compared with typical feed ingredients and diet management in pig production. Therefore, feed ingredients, low protein levels, and different energy contents in swine diets were reviewed to better understand how these dietary factors can contribute to improved pig performance and health under different physiological conditions.

  • Characteristics of delamination factor and surface roughness by drilling condition for glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) composites were investigated in this paper. An expression to quantify the delamination factor was induced by using image pixels of the entry and the experimental drilling was accomplished by fabricating several GFRP specimens in condition of minimizing the effect of vibration and heat. A method for measuring 6 points average surface roughness was applied to acquire the more reliable roughness values. The experimental results showed that the delamination factor was decreased as the feed rate was increased and it was also slightly decreased as the cutting speed was increased. Also, it was investigated that the surface roughness at inner surface of drilled holes was increased as the feed rate was increased, whereas the roughness values were not affected by the cutting speed variation.
