An OrthoMTA compacter is made by machining a Ni-Ti alloy wire using tapered helix creep-feed grinding machines. This aim of this study is to find the optimal dressing conditions to sharpen the corner of a cubic boron nitride (CBN) wheel. On the basis of the results of various experiments, it is verified that the most important factors in dressing are the dressing depth and feeding method, whereas the feed rate has less importance for producing a smaller corner R value. The study also finds the optimum dressing depth to reduce the dressing time, a feeding speed and method to stabilize the machining, and the mesh grade for the CBN wheel to make the groove of the compacter deeper.
GMAW(Gas Metal Arc Welding) processes are usually used in industrial side in order to get its high productivity. But those are only adopted in the semi-automated welding equipment because of a lot of welding spatters. Many industrial robot actually percents from being engaged in the welding processes. The welding spatter problem of causes blocking them being a fully automated welding process. This study was carried out to investigate the optimal conditions for minimizing welding spatter generation at GMAW robot. The spatter can be significantly reduced below 2% of welding spatter generation at the following conditions ; First, below 18V at the wire-feed rate 2.0mm/min Second, below 23V at the wire-feed rate 3.6mm/min Third, below 24V at the wire-feed rate 5.5mm/min.

In this paper, we developed an expert system that helped a machine-tool designer to select a moderate servomotor of the feed drive unit of a machine tool. With the specification of the drive unit, it searches for the set of servo-motors that have enough torque and power to satisfy the driving condition which the designer defines from the database. me database also contains knowledge and rules, which describe the design process and calculate design parameters of a feed drive. The knowledge-based design support module shows every steps of inference and reason for the solution that it provides.
This paper presents a new method of tool path optimization. A NC verification model based Z-map was utilized to obtain chip load in feed per tooth. This developed software can regenerate a NC program from cutting condition and the NC program that was generated in CAM. The regenerated NC program has not only all same data of the ex-NC program but also the new feed rates in every block. The new NC data can reduce the cutting time and manufacture precision dies with the same chip load in feed per tooth. This method can also prevent tool chipping and make constant tool wear. This paper considered the effects of acceleration and deceleration in feed rate change.
A flexible disk grinding system process has been introduced that utilized varying disk orientation with respect to workpiece along with the applied feed speed. Various process conditions including cutting speed, maximum feed speed and orientation angles could applied to observe process outcomes. Even though continuous and constant feed speed has been applied to the process, the results from the trapezoidal input velocity profiles would be observed and compared. Based on the control strategies including neural network methodologies, several output results were compared to find the optimum process condition. Two axis control results were displayed showing better performance with higher trajectory error for larger training epoch.
Friction is an important factor for precise position tracking control of servo systems. Servo systems with highly nonlinear friction are sensitive to the variation of operating condition. To overcome this problem, we use the LuGre friction model which can consider dynamic characteristics of friction. The LuGre friction model is used as a feed-forward compensator to improve tracking performance of servo systems. The parameters of the LuGre friction model are identified through experiments. The experimental result shows that the tracking performance of servo systems with higherly nonlinear friction can be improved by using feed-forward friction compensation.
High-speed machining is one of the most effective technologies to improve productivity. Because of the high speed and high feedrate, high-speed machining can give great advantages for the machining of dies and molds. In this paper, high-speed machining for HP-4 die material was carried out with a coated tungsten carbide ball endmill. In the high-speed machining, the cutting force and surface roughness of workpiece show various characteristics in different cutting conditions. Especially, the surface roughness of the workpiece depends largely on pick feed and feed-per-revolution of the ball endmill. In the condition where pick feed and feed-per-revolution are equal, better surface roughness is measured. By obtaining good surface roughness at high speed, efficiency of machining can be increased.

Chip breaking is important in lathe work for maintaining good surface of the products and safety of operator. The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance of chip breaking and chip shape resulted from the carbide inserts with grooved type and obstruction type chip breaker. Experiments have been performed under the following cutting conditions, (1) constant cutting speed with variable depth of cut and feed rate, (2) constant depth of cut with variable cutting speed and feed rate. Also, the flying distance of chip and it's distribution have been investigated. As a results, good performance of chip breaking can be obtained for small radius of curvature and land width of grooved type chip breaker. And the thickness of chip increase with the increase of feed rate and decrease of cutting speed, and the chip breaking becomes easier with the increase of chip thickness due to the large deformation rate. Obstraction type chip breaker shows better performance of surface roughness than the grooved type. The flying distance of the chips over 90% are less than 1 meter, and the distance decreases as the feed rate decreases.
