  • L1251B, which was revealed as a small group of protostars by the Spitzer Space Telescope (SST), presents a great site of studying chemical evolution in gas and ice as well as various dynamical processes associated with star formation (infall, rotation, and outflow). We have mapped L1251B with the Infrared Spectrograph (IRS) aboard the SST to study the chemical distribution in the phases of gas and ice and the dynamical feature related to shock in the region. Various atomic lines and the $H_2$ pure rotational lines, which trace different shock velocities, were detected. In addition, the distribution of the water and $CO_2$ ices hints variety of the ice desorption mechanism in L1251B.

  • We propose a DP-based formulation for matching line patterns by defining a robust and stable geometric representation that is based on the conceptual organizations. Usually, the endpoint proximity and collinearity of image lines, as two main conceptual organization groups, are useful cues to match the model shape in the scene. As the endpoint proximity, we detect junctions from image lines. We then search for junction groups by using geometric constraint between the junctions. A junction chain similar to the model chain is searched in the scene, based on a local comparison. A Dynamic Programming-based search algorithm reduces the time complexity for the search of the model chain in the scene. Our system can find a reasonable matching, although there exist severely distorted objects in the scene. We demonstrate the feasibility of the DP-based matching method using both synthetic and real images.

  • The Cassini/Visual Infrared Mapping Spectrometer (VIMS) observed the sun through the atmosphere of Titan, and provided vertically-resolved 63 spectra from 49 km to 987 km for the 1 - 5 micron range (Bellucci, 2008). Bellucci et al. (2009) analyzed selected spectral ranges where the band absorptions of $CH_4$ and CO are strong by constructing synthetic spectra including $CH_4$ and CO lines, but without including haze absorptions in their synthetic spectra. Kim et al. (2011) and Sim et al. (2013) were able to extract detailed spectral features of fundamental (Dv = 1) and overtone (Dv = 2) bands of the haze from the VIMS spectra by excluding the adjacent influences of strong $CH_4$ absorptions using a radiative transfer program, which includes effects of absorption and emission of lines of these molecules, and absorption and scattering of haze particles. In this presentation, we extend our detailed analyses to other remaining wavelengths in order to provide the spectral characteristics of the Titanian haze for the entire 1 - 5 micron range and to identify any additional haze spectral features and an unidentified feature near 4.3 microns reported by Bellucci et al. (2009).

  • This paper presents reconstruction of disparity in images. To achieve this, the algorithm was made up of two different procedures - one is extraction of boundaries for man-made structures and the other is matching of the structures. In the extraction of boundaries for man-made structures, we assume that man-made structures are composed of lines and the lines make up closed polygon. The convertional algorithms of the edges extraction may not perceive man-made structures and have problems that matching algorithms were too complex. This paper proposed sub-pixel boundaries extraction algorithm that fused split-and-merge and image improvement algorithms to overcome complexity. In matching procedure, feature-based algorithm that minimize the proposed cost function are used and the cost fuction considers movement of mid-points for left and right images to match structures. Because we could not obtain disparity of inner parts for the man-made structures, interpolation method was used. The experiment showed good results.

  • Automatic understanding of contents in document image is a very hard problem due to involvement with mathematically challenging problems originated mainly from the over-determined system induced by document segmentation process. In both academic and industrial areas, there have been incessant and various efforts to improve core parts of content retrieval technologies by the means of separating out segmentation related issues using semi-structured document, e.g., invoice,. In this paper we proposed classification models for text lines on invoice document in which text lines were clustered into the five categories in accordance with their contents: purchase order header, invoice header, summary header, surcharge header, purchase items. Our investigation was concentrated on the performance of machine learning based models in aspect of linear-discriminant-analysis (LDA) and non-LDA (logic based). In the group of LDA, na$\"{\i}$ve baysian, k-nearest neighbor, and SVM were used, in the group of non LDA, decision tree, random forest, and boost were used. We described the details of feature vector construction and the selection processes of the model and the parameter including training and validation. We also presented the experimental results of comparison on training/classification error levels for the models employed.

  • The field based morping requires the user to set most of the control lines manually which require much time and skill to get satisfactory results. This tjesis proposes a method to acquire semi-automation of image morphing through first acquiring shape information from the source image and the target image, than after the user manually designates the least amount of a pair of feature points, these are used as standards for polygon based vertex to set the appropriate control line to the source image and target image, and then using the ratio of control line lengths and space. Using the proposed method the user can reduce the time setting the control line and unskilled persons can get natural image morphing results while desingnating the least amount of control line.

  • Fe II emission is a prominent and ubiquitous feature in the spectra of broad-line Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) by producing a pseudo-continuum from UV to optical with complex and strong blends of the numerous emission lines themselves, other emission lines, and continuum. Since theoretical modeling of such intricate Fe II emission is very difficult and still far from able to reproduce observed data in detail, an empirical iron emission template, derived from observations of a narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxy, is an essential and practical tool to obtain accurate measurements of all the emission lines and continuum in AGN spectra. However, the existing iron templates, based on the single prototypical strong Fe II emitter I Zw 1, are suffering from inadequate S/N and non-simultaneous, inconsistent data with limited wavelength coverage, which consequently limit the accuracy of all the spectral measurements. To overcome the limitations and construct an improved iron template with wide spectral coverage, high-quality UV and optical spectra for the new and better identified template galaxy, Mrk 493, were successfully obtained from our HST STIS program (GO-14744). We will show the preliminary results for multicomponent spectral decomposition of the data and template construction with application tests to various AGN spectra and comparison with previous templates.

  • Software product lines (SPL) are recently an emerging software reuse paradigm, which helps organizations develop their products from reusable core assets rather than from scratch. For developing these assets, understanding commonality and variability (C&V) is essential. A feature-oriented approach has been used extensively for C&V analysis in the SPL. However, this contains no proposal to systematically identify features and provide the rationale for the features. Further, the approach does not directly show how the results of C&V analysis will satisfy an organization's high-level business goals and provide the rationale for the C&V. Therefore, this paper presents a domain analysis method for the SPL based on goals, scenarios, and features in order to overcome some of the deficiencies and limitations of the feature-oriented approach. In particular, the paper proposes a domain requirements model (DRM) and a domain requirements modeling method based on the DRM. This method has been applied to the home integration system (HIS) domain to demonstrate its feasibility with a supporting tool, namely IDEAS. Our approach makes it possible to systematically identify the features and provide the rationale for both the features and the C&V.

  • The Planetary nebula NGC 6881 displays quadrupole morphology and it also has a jet feature in its image. We investigated the line profiles of the optical region spectral emission lines, using the Hamilton Echelle Spectrograph (HES) at the Lick observatory. The HES data obtained in this study was the radiation coming from the inner region within the diameter of 4 second of arc. Expansion velocity was obtained, based on the strong emission line profiles of e.g. H, Hel, Hell, [OIII], [NII], [ArIII], [SII], and [SIII}, using the IRAF and StarLink/Dipso reduction packages. The HI recombination lines showed one single peak profile, while the He and forbidden strong lines displayed double peaks. The results of this study show that the outflow velocity of gas increases radially outwards due to the central stellar radiation pressure. It was concluded that three central rings appeared in the HST image are the result of a combined structure of bipolar cones (seen in e.g. HI lines) and a ring (seen in He, [SIII] lines) in projection.
