A voice transformation (VT) method that can make the utterance of a source speaker mimic that of a target speaker is described. Speaker individuality transformation is achieved by altering three feature parameters, which include the LPC cepstrum, pitch period and gain. The main objective of this study involves construction of an optimal sequence of features selected from a target speaker's database, to maximize both the correlation probabilities between the transformed and the source features and the likelihood of the transformed features with respect to the target model. A set of two-pass conversion rules is proposed, where the feature parameters are first selected from a database then the optimal sequence of the feature parameters is then constructed in the second pass. The conversion rules were developed using a statistical approach that employed a maximum likelihood criterion. In constructing an optimal sequence of the features, a hidden Markov model (HMM) was employed to find the most likely combination of the features with respect to the target speaker's model. The effectiveness of the proposed transformation method was evaluated using objective tests and informal listening tests. We confirmed that the proposed method leads to perceptually more preferred results, compared with the conventional methods.

It is extremely lacking and urgently required that the method of constructing the Gene Regulatory Network (GRN) from RNA-Sequencing data (RNA-Seq) because of Big-Data and GRN in Big-Data has obtained substantial observation as the interactions among relevant featured genes and their regulations. We propose newly the computational comparative feature patterns selection method by implementing a minimum-redundancy maximum-relevancy (MRMR) filter the support vector machine-recursive feature elimination (SVM-RFE) with Intensity-dependent normalization (DEGSEQ) as a preprocessor for emphasizing equal preciseness in RNA-seq in Big-Data. We found out the proposed algorithm might be more scalable and convenient because of all libraries in R package and be more improved in terms of the time consuming in Big-Data and minimum-redundancy maximum-relevancy of a set of feature patterns at the same time.

In this paper, we propose a new confidence measure using pixel selection for eye detection and design a hybrid eye detector. For this, we produce sub-images by applying a pixel selection method to the eye patches and construct the BDA(Biased Discriminant Analysis) feature space for measuring the confidence of the eye detection results. For a hybrid eye detector, we select HFED(Haar-like Feature based Eye Detector) and MFED(MCT Feature based Eye Detector), which are complementary to each other, as basic detectors. For a given image, each basic detector conducts eye detection and the confidence of each result is estimated in the BDA feature space by calculating the distances between the produced eye patches and the mean of positive samples in the training set. Then, the result with higher confidence is adopted as the final eye detection result and is used to the face alignment process for face recognition. The experimental results for various face databases show that the proposed method performs more accurate eye detection and consequently results in better face recognition performance compared with other methods.
A main goal of pharmacogenomics studies is to predict individual's drug responsiveness based on high dimensional genetic variables. Due to a large number of variables, feature selection is required in order to reduce the number of variables. The selected features are used to construct a predictive model using machine learning algorithms. In the present study, we applied several hybrid feature selection methods such as combinations of logistic regression, ReliefF, TurF, random forest, and LASSO to a next generation sequencing data set of 400 epilepsy patients. We then applied the selected features to machine learning methods including random forest, gradient boosting, and support vector machine as well as a stacking ensemble method. Our results showed that the stacking model with a hybrid feature selection of random forest and ReliefF performs better than with other combinations of approaches. Based on a 5-fold cross validation partition, the mean test accuracy value of the best model was 0.727 and the mean test AUC value of the best model was 0.761. It also appeared that the stacking models outperform than single machine learning predictive models when using the same selected features.

As basic data that can systematically support and evaluate R&D activities as well as set current and future research directions by grasping specific trends in domestic academic research, I sought efficient ways to assign standardized subject categories (control keywords) to individual journal papers. To this end, I conducted various experiments on major factors affecting the performance of automatic classification, focusing on feature selection techniques, for the purpose of automatically allocating the classification categories on the National Research Foundation of Korea's Academic Research Classification Scheme to domestic journal papers. As a result, the automatic classification of domestic journal papers, which are imbalanced datasets of the real environment, showed that a fairly good level of performance can be expected using more simple classifiers, feature selection techniques, and relatively small training sets.

Purpose : In this paper we proposed cascade feature filter and projection method for rapid human face recognition for the large-scale high-dimensional face database. Materials and Methods : The relevant features are selected from the large feature set using Fast Correlation-Based Filter method. After feature selection, project them into discriminant using Principal Component Analysis or Linear Discriminant Analysis. Their cascade method reduces the time-complexity without significant degradation of the performance. Results : In our experiments, the ORL database and the extended Yale face database b were used for evaluation. On the ORL database, the processing time was approximately 30-times faster than typical approach with recognition rate 94.22% and on the extended Yale face database b, the processing time was approximately 300-times faster than typical approach with recognition rate 98.74 %. Conclusion : The recognition rate and time-complexity of the proposed method is suitable for real-time face recognition system on the large-scale high-dimensional face database.
Medical imaging is one of the most powerful tools for gaining information about internal organs and tissues. It is a challenging task to develop sophisticated image analysis methods in order to improve the accuracy of diagnosis. The objective of this paper is to develop a Computer Aided Diagnostics (CAD) scheme for Brain Tumour detection from Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI) using active contour models and to investigate with several approaches for improving CAD performances. The problem in clinical medicine is the automatic detection of brain Tumours with maximum accuracy and in less time. This work involves the following steps: i) Segmentation performed by Fuzzy Clustering with Level Set Method (FCMLSM) and performance is compared with snake models based on Balloon force and Gradient Vector Force (GVF), Distance Regularized Level Set Method (DRLSE). ii) Feature extraction done by Shape and Texture based features. iii) Brain Tumour detection performed by various tree classifiers. Based on investigation FCMLSM is well suited segmentation method and Random Forest is the most optimum classifier for this problem. This method gives accuracy of 97% and with minimum classification error. The time taken to detect Tumour is approximately 2 mins for an examination (30 slices).
Air-writing recognition is relevant in areas such as natural human-computer interaction, augmented reality, and virtual reality. A trajectory is the most natural way to represent air writing. We analyze the recognition accuracy of words written in air considering five features, namely, writing direction, curvature, trajectory, orthocenter, and ellipsoid, as well as different parameters of a hidden Markov model classifier. Experiments were performed on two representative datasets, whose sample trajectories were collected using a Leap Motion Controller from a fingertip performing air writing. Dataset D1 contains 840 English words from 21 classes, and dataset D2 contains 1600 English words from 40 classes. A genetic algorithm was combined with a hidden Markov model classifier to obtain the best subset of features. Combination ftrajectory, orthocenter, writing direction, curvatureg provided the best feature set, achieving recognition accuracies on datasets D1 and D2 of 98.81% and 83.58%, respectively.

Author verification is challenging because of the diversity in writing styles. We propose an enhanced handwriting verification method that combines handcrafted and automatically extracted features. The method uses a genetic algorithm to reduce the dimensionality of the feature set. We consider offline Bangla handwriting content and evaluate the proposed method using handcrafted features with a simple logistic regression, radial basis function network, and sequential minimal optimization as well as automatically extracted features using a convolutional neural network. The handcrafted features outperform the automatically extracted ones, achieving an average verification accuracy of 94.54% for 100 writers. The handcrafted features include Radon transform, histogram of oriented gradients, local phase quantization, and local binary patterns from interwriter and intrawriter content. The genetic algorithm reduces the feature dimensionality and selects salient features using a support vector machine. The top five experimental results are obtained from the optimal feature set selected using a consensus strategy. Comparisons with other methods and features confirm the satisfactory results.
This paper presents a two-phase quantitative framework to aid the decision making process for effective selection of an efficient freight logistics hub from 8 alternatives in Thailand on the North-South economic corridor. Phase 1 employs both multiple regression and Pearson Feature selection to find the important criteria, as defined by logistics hub score, and to reduce number of criteria by eliminating the less important criteria. The result of Pearson Feature selection indicated that only 5 of 15 criteria affected the logistics hub score. Moreover, Genetic Algorithm (GA) was constructed from original 15 criteria data set to find the relationship between logistics criteria and freight logistics hub score. As a result, the statistical tools are provided the same 5 important criteria, affecting logistics hub score from GA, and data mining tool. Phase 2 performs the fuzzy stochastic AHP analysis with the five important criteria. This approach could help to gain insight into how the imprecision in judgment ratios may affect their alternatives toward the best solution and how the best alternative may be identified with certain confidence. The main objective of the paper is to find the best alternative for selecting freight logistics hub under proper criteria. The experimental results show that by using this approach, Chiang Mai province is the best place with the confidence interval 95%.
