  • Action recognition has been studied in computer vision field for years. We present an effective approach to recognize actions using a dimension reduction method, which is applied as a crucial step to reduce the dimensionality of feature descriptors after extracting features. We propose to use sparse matrix and randomized kd-tree to modify it and then propose modified Local Fisher Discriminant Analysis (mLFDA) method which greatly reduces the required memory and accelerate the standard Local Fisher Discriminant Analysis. For feature encoding, we propose a useful encoding method called mix encoding which combines Fisher vector encoding and locality-constrained linear coding to get the final video representations. In order to add more meaningful features to the process of action recognition, the convolutional neural network is utilized and combined with mix encoding to produce the deep network feature. Experimental results show that our algorithm is a competitive method on KTH dataset, HMDB51 dataset and UCF101 dataset when combining all these methods.

  • The success of iris recognition depends mainly on two factors: image acquisition and an iris recognition algorithm. In this study, we present a system that considers both factors and focuses on the latter. The proposed algorithm aims to find out the most efficient wavelet family and its coefficients for encoding the iris template of the experiment samples. The algorithm implemented in software performs segmentation, normalization, feature encoding, data storage, and matching. By using the Haar and Biorthogonal wavelet families at various levels feature encoding is performed by decomposing the normalized iris image. The vertical coefficient is encoded into the iris template and is stored in the database. The performance of the system is evaluated by using the number of degrees of freedom, False Reject Rate (FRR), False Accept Rate (FAR), and Equal Error Rate (EER) and the metrics show that the proposed algorithm can be employed for an iris recognition system.

  • Biometric discretization is a process of transforming continuous biometric features of an identity into a binary bit string. This paper mainly focuses on improving the global discretization method - a discretization method that does not base on information specific to each user in bitstring extraction, which appears to be important in applications that prioritize strong security provision and strong privacy protection. In particular, we demonstrate how the actual performance of a global discretization could further be improved by embedding a global discriminative feature selection method and a Linearly Separable Subcode-based encoding technique. In addition, we examine a number of discriminative feature selection measures that can reliably be used for such discretization. Lastly, encouraging empirical results vindicate the feasibility of our approach.

  • This paper presents a study on the use of encoder-derived features in decoder-side depth estimation. The scheme of multiview video encoding does not require the transmission of depth maps (which carry the geometry of a three-dimensional scene) as only a set of input views and their parameters are compressed and packed into the bitstream, with a set of features that could make it easier to estimate geometry in the decoder. The paper proposes novel recursive block splitting for the feature extraction process and evaluates different scenarios of feature-driven decoder-side depth estimation, performed by assessing their influence on the bitrate of metadata, quality of the reconstructed video, and time of depth estimation. As efficient encoding of multiview sequences became one of the main scopes of the video encoding community, the experimental results are based on the "geometry absent" profile from the incoming MPEG Immersive video standard. The results show that the quality of synthesized views using the proposed recursive block splitting outperforms that of the state-of-the-art approach.

  • In this paper, we propose a fast fractal coding method based on LMSE analysis and subblock feature. In the proposed method, scaling paarameter is calculated and whether search for each domain block should be done or not is determined based on the LMSE analysis of fractal approximation, and isometry parameter is chosen based on subblock feature. To investigate the efficiency of the proposed method, we compared it with Jacquin's method on image quality and encoding time. Experimental results show the proposed method yields nearly the same performance as that of Jacquin method in PSNR, and its encoding time is reduced by about 1/7 times.

  • This article proposes the modified KNN (K Nearest Neighbor) algorithm which considers the feature similarity and is applied to the word categorization. The texts which are given as features for encoding words into numerical vectors are semantic related entities, rather than independent ones, and the synergy effect between the word categorization and the text categorization is expected by combining both of them with each other. In this research, we define the similarity metric between two vectors, including the feature similarity, modify the KNN algorithm by replacing the exiting similarity metric by the proposed one, and apply it to the word categorization. The proposed KNN is empirically validated as the better approach in categorizing words in news articles and opinions. The significance of this research is to improve the classification performance by utilizing the feature similarities.

  • In this paper, we propose a new feature-based text watermarking for the binary text image. The structure of specific characters from preprocessed text image are modified to embed watermark. Watermark message are embedded and detected by the following method; Hole line disconnect using the connectivity of the character containing a hole, Center line shift using the hole area and Differential encoding using difference of flippable score points. Experimental results show that the proposed method is robust to rotation and scaling distortion.

  • In this paper, we propose an intelligent marketing service system that can provide custom advertisements and events to both businesses and customers by identifying the location and contents using the ultrasonic signals and feature information in voice signals. We also develop the encoding and decoding algorithm of ultrasonic signals for this system and analyze the performance evaluation results. With the development of the hyper-connected society, the on-line marketing has been activated and is growing in size. Existing store marketing applications have disadvantages that customers have to find out events or promotional materials that the headquarters or stores throughusing the corresponding applications whenever they visit them. To solve these problems, there are attempts to create intelligent marketing tools using GPS technology and voice recognition technology. However, this approach has difficulties in technology development due to accuracy of location and speed of comparison and retrieval of voice recognition technology, and marketing services for customer relation are also much simplified.
