  • In this paper we propose effective speech recognizer through two recognition experiments. In general, SVM is classification method which classify two class set by finding voluntary nonlinear boundary in vector space and possesses high classification performance under few training data number. In this paper we compare recognition performance of HMM and SVM at training data number and investigate recognition performance of each feature parameter while changing feature space of MFCC using Independent Component Analysis(ICA) and Principal Component Analysis(PCA). As a result of experiment, recognition performance of SVM is better than 1:.um under few training data number, and feature parameter by ICA showed the highest recognition performance because of superior linear classification.

  • The two-stage linear discrimination analysis (TSLDA) is a feature extraction technique to solve the small size sample problem in the field of image recognition. The TSLDA has retained all subspace information of the between-class scatter and within-class scatter. However, the feature information in the four subspaces may not be entirely beneficial for classification, and the regularization procedure for eliminating singular metrics in TSLDA has higher time complexity. In order to address these drawbacks, this paper proposes an improved two-stage linear discriminant analysis (Improved TSLDA). The Improved TSLDA proposes a selection and compression method to extract superior feature information from the four subspaces to constitute optimal projection space, where it defines a single Fisher criterion to measure the importance of single feature vector. Meanwhile, Improved TSLDA also applies an approximation matrix method to eliminate the singular matrices and reduce its time complexity. This paper presents comparative experiments on five face databases and one handwritten digit database to validate the effectiveness of the Improved TSLDA.

  • Improving the recognition performance of connected digit telephone speech still remains a problem to be solved. As a basic study for it, this paper analyzes the variation of feature parameters of Korean digit telephone speech according to channel distortion. As a feature parameter for analysis and recognition MFCC is used. To analyze the effect of telephone channel distortion depending on each call, MFCCs are first obtained from the connected digit telephone speech for each phoneme included in the Korean digit. Then CMN, RTCN, and RASTA are applied to the MFCC as channel compensation techniques. Using the feature parameters of MFCC, MFCC+CMN, MFCC+RTCN, and MFCC+RASTA, variances of phonemes are analyzed and recognition experiments are done for each case. Experimental results are discussed with our findings and discussions

  • This paper describes a new practical simplification method for feature-based solid models. In this approach, a solid model created using feature modeling operations is first simplified by the suppression of detailed features, and then, if necessary, the model is converted to a surface model to facilitate its modification. Finally, the simplified surface model is delivered to analysis packages. The algorithm was implemented based on CATIA V.5 and applied to mid-surface generation of plastic parts for structural analysis to prove the validity and usefulness.

  • This paper presents a method of detection localized defects on tapered roller bearing in main spindle of machine tool system. The feature vectors, i.e. statistical parameters, in time-domain analysis technique have been calculated to extract useful features from acoustic emission signals. These feature vectors are used as the input feature of an neural network to classify and detect bearing defects. As a results, the detection of bearing defect conditions could be sucessfully performed by using an neural network with statistical parameters of acoustic emission signals.

  • In this paper, we propose an approach which constructs classifier ensembles of various channel compensation and feature enhancement methods. CMN and CMVN are used as channel compensation methods. PCA, kernel PCA, greedy kernel PCA, and kernel multimodal discriminant analysis are used as feature enhancement methods. The proposed ensemble system is constructed with the combination of 15 classifiers which include three channel compensation methods (including 'without compensation') and five feature enhancement methods (including 'without enhancement'). Experimental results show that the proposed ensemble system gives highest average speaker identification rate in various environments (channels, noises, and sessions).

  • This paper addresses a problem of classifying human breast cancer into its subtypes. A main ingredient in our approach is kernel machines such as support vector machine (SVM). kernel principal component analysis (KPCA). and kernel partial least squares (KPLS). In the task of breast cancer classification, we employ both SVM and KPLS and compare their results. In addition to this classification. we also analyze the patterns of clinical outcomes in the feature space. In order to visualize the clinical outcomes in low-dimensional space, both KPCA and KPLS are used. It turns out that these methods are useful to identify correlations between clinical outcomes and the nonlinearly protected expression profiles in low-dimensional feature space.

  • This paper proposed a method of feature parameter extraction for shape information analysis of moving object. In the 2-D plane, moving object are extracted by the difference method. Feature parameters of moving object are chosen area, perimeter, a/p ratio, vertex, x/y ratio. We changed brightness variation from the range of 600Lux to the 1400Lux and then determined Permissible Error range of feature parameter due to the brightness variation. So as to verify the validity of proposed method, experiment are performed with a toy car and it's results showed that decision error was less than 6%.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate two major feature extraction techniques based on generic modular face recognition system. Detailed algorithms are described for principal component analysis (PCA) and independent component analysis (ICA). PCA and ICA ate statistical techniques for feature extraction and their incorporation into a face recognition system requires numerous design decisions. We explicitly state the design decisions by introducing a modular-based face recognition system since some of these decision are not documented in the literature. We explored different implementations of each module, and evaluate the statistical feature extraction algorithms based on the FERET performance evaluation protocol (the de facto standard method for evaluating face recognition algorithms). In this paper, we perform two experiments. In the first experiment, we report performance results on the FERET database based on PCA. In the second experiment, we examine performance variations based on ICA feature extraction algorithm. The experimental results are reported using four different categories of image sets including front, lighting, and duplicate images.

  • Large signal type data sets are difficult to classify, especially if the data sets are non-stationary. In this paper, large signal type and non-stationary data sets are wavelet transformed so that distinct features of the data are extracted in wavelet domain rather than time domain. For the classification of the data, a few wavelet coefficients representing class properties are employed for statistical classification methods : Linear Discriminant Analysis, Quadratic Discriminant Analysis, Neural Network etc. The application of our wavelet-based feature selection method to a mass spectrometry data set for ovarian cancer diagnosis resulted in 100% classification accuracy.
