The results are summarized as follows: First, subjects who were women and had higher education showed higher life satisfaction. Second, fear of crime has statistically significant negative effects on life satisfaction. Third, fear of crime has statistically significant negative effects on interpersonal trust. Fourth, interpersonal trust has statistically significant positive effects on life satisfaction. Lastly, interpersonal trust acts as a mediator between fear of crime and life satisfaction. The implication of this study's results is for policy making and it is discussed to promote a higher level of interpersonal trust and increase the level of life satisfaction for residents.

  • The primary aim of this study is to provide effective operational directions of multi-purpose maneuver patrol via practical analysis on the fear of crime and its impact factors in the Hot Spots Policing target region. Comparative Analysis on fear of crime and its impact factors such as informal social control, disorder, and the perception of police activities is conducted in regions of maneuver patrol against its neighborhood. In Conclusion, no evident differences in fear of crime between the regions of maneuver patrol and its neighborhood were found. However, regions of maneuver patrol displayed significant distinctions in informal social control and perception of crime frequency in comparison to its neighborhood of no such patrol. In addition, it was noticed that in both regions disorder and perception of crime frequency served as the impact factors of fear of crime, which in part exhibits positive relationship with perception of hot spots policing. This study concludes that criterion in deciding on the regions of maneuver patrol should include subjective impact factors such as fear of crime. Furthermore, it suggests that along with the current unsatisfactory maneuver patrol system there needs specific guideline to enhance the perception of police activities including strengthened interactions with residents, improvement in social disorder.

  • In modern society, a spontaneous phenomenon that community residents' participation in crime prevention sphere is increasing now due to the recognition that it is extremely difficult to control crime only by the limited official power(police) is spreading in the society. In the consideration of crime occurrence, the fear of crime does not belong to a certain person any more, but it turns to a matter of common interest for all people. If the recognition of community problems is well understood and analysed, the effect of community residents' participation in crime prevention will appear more eminent and definite. For a long period of time, thanks to the community residents' participation in crime prevention, it has been possible to sustain safety and stability of local community. Ultimately not only the police could reduce the crime problems but local community could decrease a fear of crime. In this study, for maximized effect of crime prevention, it is focused on the role of the community residents' participation in crime prevention. For desirable interrelations among service group and residents, police, first the review of situational crime prevention and community crime prevention theory was studied. And the community residents participation to crime prevention activity in U.S.A, Japan etc was reviewed. By interviewing actual participants in community crime prevention activity, the problems and countermeasures of the community residents' participation in crime prevention activity and desirable direction was suggested

  • This study tries to find the possibility to prevent crime by improving urban spatial environment through the analysis of spatial environment property that mutually coincides or differs by comparing the place where crime actually occurs and the place where citizen is afraid of crime. The method of study is as follows. First, the ontents scope and method of study was established by theoretic investigation of case study related to crime. Second, as crime cannot be prevented by police power only, CPSCP(Citizen Participation System for Crime Prevention) was developed so that all citizen can cooperatively participate in the crime prevention anytime and anywhere. Third, the data on the place where people feel fear in the region was collected by directly indicating the place where citizen is afraid of crime in the space by utilizing CPSCP. Fourth, the place where crime actually occurs and the place where citizen is afraid of crime are redundantly analyzed for comparative analysis of 2 places. The result shows that environmental design improving physical environment of urban space is necessary to prevent crime and to eliminate the fear of crime. The CPSCP developed by this study which will be advanced to U-crime prevention system will contribute to making citizen's own neighborhood a smart safety city autonomously.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between housing types and crime and to suggest the appropriate strategies and interventions of housing policies for crime prevention. For spatial analysis of crime data, spatial autocorrelation is tested by Moran's I Test. A Ordinary Least Squares-based regression model is employed because crime data used in this study fails to show spatial autocorrelation. Results show that housing type variables except non-residential housing type are not associated with crime. Among land-use characteristics, the percentage of commercial areas is likely to better explain crime occurrence rather than housing types. It is surprising that residents' satisfaction to housing environment has a positive direction in its relationship with crime even though it cannot have a statistical significance. However, fear of crime shows a negative direction with crime although it fails to have a statistical significance. The findings of this study can contribute to understand the association between housing types and crime when setting housing policies for crime prevention.

  • Even though there are many studies on emotion recognition using EEG, there is a few research on specific emotion recognition in detail. In this paper, we construct test videos and conduct congruent-incongruent test for analysis on fear of crime. We compared the differences of event-related potential of subjects before and after watching the video using the congruent-incongruent test and analyzed the fear that subject perceived. Our results demonstrate that subjects showed lower amplitudes for unexpected stimuli in the PZ, POZ, and OZ electrodes of the occipital lobe, which process visual stimuli. These results indicate that the perception of subject is slower for unexpected objects.

  • The ultimate goal of multimedia in bio-signal research is to approach multimedia contents through bio-signal. Hence it is important to interpret user's emotions by analyzing his or her bio-signals. In this paper, we construct ERP task of oddball component to analyze EEG signal between normal stimuli and fear stimuli and measure EEG during ERP task. The results from extracted ERP component show that there is a difference in N200 in visual stimuli, P300 in auditory stimuli, and N100 and P300. Moreover, there are larger changes in audiovisual stimuli, indicating that users recognize greater fear of crime when visual and auditory stimuli are simultaneously presented.

  • Today, crime has become a serious threat to social safety so citizen's desire for safety has increased. So the private security has emerged as a new industry for safety and security and became a crucial component. Private security is responsible not only covers the limitations of the police work, but also fills citizen's desire of security. However, quantitative research on private security has rarely been done and the results of the private security study are not effectively utilized due to biased research trends in Korea. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of community incivility on fear of crime and the moderation effect of private security. To accomplish this purpose, this research uses 6,919 samples from the National Crime Victimization Survey(2014) and conducts hierarchical regression through STATA 13.0 program. As a results, private security guard showed the main effect on the generalized fear of crime, but had not a significant influence on the interaction effect with the community incivility. On the other hand, the moderation effect of electronic security was statistically significant in relation to the community incivility and specific fear of crime. In other words, in a place with high physical disorder, the fear of crime is relatively low in the case of the electronic machine, compared with the case where there is no electronic machine. The implications and limitations based on these results are discussed in the conclusion.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the influencing factors of perceived safety for CCTV(Closed Circuit Television), and to confirm the correlation between fear of crime, social disorder, physical disorder in the community, and perceived safety for CCTV. Subjects were 140 students from one college located in H city using survey from June 17, 2022 to August 25, 2022. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, and Stepwise multiple regression using the SPSS 23.0 program. As a result of the study, fear of crime was correlated with social disorder, physical disorder among community characteristics, and perceived safety of CCTV. Also, social disorder among community characteristics was correlated with physical disorder, perceived safety of CCTV, and physical disorder was correlated with perceived safety of CCTV. The factors affecting perceived safety for CCTV were fear of crime and social disorder, and the explanatory power was 57.2%(Adjusted R2=.572). In conclusion, it is necessary to improve the perceived safety of CCTV by improving the awareness of fear of crime and social disorder.
