Leaching Properties of Water-Soluble Hexavalent Chromium in Manufacturing Cement Clinker Using Industrial By-Products (산업부산물을 이용하여 제조된 시멘트 클링커의 수용성 6가 크롬 용출 특성)

  • Since it was developed by Joseph Aspdin, cement has been a common construction materials up to the present time. However, there are trace constituents in cement clinker. One of the trace constituents included in cement clinker, chromium, has become prominent and highly noticed lately as a social issue both inside and outside of this country because it affects the human body negatively. The aim of the present study was to investigate the concentration of water-soluble hexavalent chromium in cement clinker by using industrial by-products. For that reason, raw materials were prepared to add different $SiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, and $Fe_2O_3$ sources. After the raw materials such as the limestone, the sand and the clay, iron ore was pulverized and mixed, and the raw meal was burnt at about $1450^{\circ}C$ in a furnace with an oxidizing atmosphere. The part in the raw materials of the clinker was substituted with slag, sludge, etc. and this was used to manufacturing cement clinker. To investigate the water-soluble hexavalent chromium content in clinker, raw meal was prepared by changing the modulus, the type, and the content of clinker materials and tested concentrations of hexavalent chromium in the clinkers. To determine $Cr^{+6}$ formation of the clinker, tests were done with raw meals adding chromium by using different industrial by-products. Consequently because the chromium was to be included in the raw materials of the clinker, production of Portland cement clinker was included with the chromium. Also, the chromium was converted into hexavalent chromium in the burning process.

The Analysis of the Archaeological Soils excavated at Wanggung-ri (토양분석을 통한 고고학적 해석-익산 왕궁리 수혈유구 토양을 대상으로)

  • Coprostanol is a metabolic product of cholesterol, formed by microbial action in the mammalian gut. This chemical compound is the major sterol in human and has been routinely studied as a biomarker of sewage pollution in marine and lacustrinesediments. This has led to the search for coprostanol as a biomarker in archaeologicalsoils, in order to detect the presence of fecal material. In this study, five samples of archaeological soils excavated at Wanggung ri, Iksancity, were used to assess the possibility of using coprostanol as indicators of ancient human activity in archaeological areas. The sampled soils were analyzed MXRD,EDXRF for their physical and chemical properties. And coprostanol was analysed byGC/MSD, using SIM method to detect and quantify specific compound. The results showed the soils were composed of quartz and feldspars, inorganicelement such as $SiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, $Fe_2O_3$ etc. Moreover, the result from the analysis wasindicated that the specific compound is coprostanol. The coprostanol was determined at $0.16~1.01\mug$/g in the range of concentrations. This finding indicate that clear promise exists for the exploitation of coprostanol as biomarker of ancient human activity inarchaeological survey. Therefore such studies can serve to increase the confidence we place on biomarker-based methodologies for assessing fecal pollution. The application of this methodology has proved a simple and effective way of searching for that pattern in successively more aged deposits either known or suspected to contain fecal material. And the more scientific analysis of the soils will be showed to utility of the area ancient dietary life style, ancient environment.

Hydrotreating for Stabilization of Bio-oil Mixture over Ni-based Bimetallic Catalysts (Ni계 이원금속 촉매에 의한 혼합 바이오오일의 안정화를 위한 수소첨가 반응)

  • Vegetable oils, such as palm oil and cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL), are used as major raw materials for bio-diesel in transportation and bio-heavy oil in power generation in South Korea. However, due to the high unsaturation degree caused by hydrocarbon double bonds and a high content of oxygen originating from the presence of carboxylic acid, the range of applications as fuel oil is limited. In this study, hydrotreating to saturate unsaturated hydrocarbons and remove oxygen in mixed bio-oil containing 1/1 v/v% palm oil and CNSL on monometallic catalysts (Ni and Cu) and bimetallic catalysts (Ni-Zn, Ni-Fe, Ni-Cu Ni-Co, Ni-Pd, and Ni-Pt) was perform under mild conditions (T = 250 ~ 400 ℃, P = 5 ~ 80 bar and LHSV = 1 h-1). The addition of noble metals and transition metals to Ni showed synergistic effects to improve both hydrogenation (HYD) and hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) activities. The most promising catalyst was Ni-Cu/��-Al2O3, and in the wide range of the Ni/Cu atomic ratio of 9/1~1/4, the conversion for HYD and HDO reactions of the catalysts were 90-93% and 95-99%, respectively. The tendency to exhibit almost constant reaction activity in these catalysts of different Ni/Cu atomic ratios implies a typical structure-insensitive reaction. The refined bio-oil produced by hydrotreating (HDY and HDO) had significantly lower iodine value, acid value, and kinetic viscosity than the raw bio-oil and the higher heating value (HHV) was increased by about 10%.

  • 테라헤르쯔(terahertz: THz)파는 0.1~10 THz 의 범위로 적외선과 방송파 사이에 광대역 주파수 스펙트럼을 차지하고 있으며 직진성, 투과성, 그리고 낮은 에너지 (meV)를 가지고 있어 비 파괴적이고 무해한 장점을 지니고 있다. Ti:sapphire laser와 같은 femto-pulse source 등이 많은 발전이 되어 현재 많은 연구와 발전이 이루어지고 있다. femto-pulse source를 이용한 THz 응용에서는 높은 저항, 큰 전자 이동도, 그리고 아주 짧은 전하수명의 기판을 요구하는데 저온에서 성장한 (low-temperature grown : LT) GaAs는 격자 내에 Gallium 자리에 Arsenic이 치환 하면서 AsGa antisite가 발생하여 전하수명을 짧아지는 것을 응용하여 가장 많이 이용되고 있다. 현재 THz 응용분야에서 보다 작고 가격경쟁력이 있는 광통신을 이용한 THz photomixer등이 활발히 연구 하고 있다. 광섬유 내에서 손실과 분산이 최소값을 가지는 부분이 1.55 ${\mu}m$ 부근이고 In0.53Ga0.47As 기판을 이용하였을 때 여기에 완벽하게 만족하게 된다. 하지만 LT-InGaAs 의 경우 AsGa antisite로 인하여 carrier lifetime은 짧아지지만 높은 n-type 전하밀도를 가지게 된다. 이때 Be을 doping하여 전하밀도를 보상하여 높은 저항을 유지해야 하는데 Be의 활성화를 위해서는 열처리를 필요로 한다. 하지만 열처리를 하면 carrier lifetime이 길어지기 때문에 carrier lifetime과 저항을 적절히 조율해야 한다. 이는 물질자체의 특성이기 때문에 InGaAs는 GaAs보다 낮은 amplitude와 짧은 cut-off frequency를 가진다. 본 연구에서는 보다 높은 저항을 얻기 위하여 molecular beam epitaxy를 이용하여 semi-insulating InP:Fe 기판위에 격자 정합된 InGaAs:Be/InAlAs multi quantum well (MQW)를 온도별 ($250{\sim}400^{\circ}C$), 주기별 (50~150)로 성장을 하였고 이때 InGaAs layer의 Be doping level은 $2{\times}1018\;cm^{-3}$, Ex-situ annealing은 $550^{\circ}C$에서 10분으로 고정 하였다. THz 발생 실험에서는 InGaAs/InAlAs MQW은 4000 pA로 1,000 pA를 가지는 InGaAs epilayer보다 4배 높은 전류 신호를 얻을 수 있었고 모든 샘플이 2 THz에서 cut-off frequency를 가지고 있었다. THz 검출 실험에서는 LT-InGaAs:Be epilayer LT-InGaAs:Be/InAlAs, HT-InGaAs/InAlAs 샘플이 각각 180, 9000, 12000 pA의 전류신호를 가지고 있었고 모든 샘플이 2 THz에서 cut-off frequency를 가지고 있었다. HT-InGaAs/InAlAs MQW를 이용한 검출실험에서는 InGaAs layer가 defect free이지만 LT-InGaAs:Be/ InAlAs MQW 보다 높은 전류 신호를 얻을 수 있었다. 이는 InAlAs layer가 저항만 높이는 것뿐만 아니라 carrier trapping layer로써의 역할도 하는 것으로 사료된다.

Geochemical Enrichment and Migration of Environmental Toxic Elements in Stream Sediments and Soils from the Samkwang Au-Ag Mine Area, Korea (삼광 금-은광산 일대의 하상퇴적물과 토양내 함유된 독성원소의 지구화학적 부화와 이동)

  • Dispersion, migration and enrichment of environmental toxic elements from the Samkwang Au-Ag mine area were investigated based upon major, minor and rare earth element geochemistry. The Samkwang mine area composed mainly of Precambrian granitic gneiss. The mine had been mined for gold and silver, but closed in 1996. According to the X-ray powder diffraction, mineral composition of stream sediments and soils were partly variable mineralogy, which are composed of quartz, orthoclase, plagioclase, amphibole, muscovite, biotite and chlorite, respectively. Major element variations of the host granitic gneiss, stream sediments and soils of mining and non-mining drainage, indicate that those compositions are decrese $Al_2O_3$, $Fe_2O_3$, MgO, $TiO_2$, $P_2O_5$ and LOI with increasing $SiO_2$ respectively. Average compositional ranges (ppm) of minor and/or environmental toxic elements within those samples are revealed as As=<2-4500, Cd=<1-24, Cu=6-117, Sb=1-29, Pb=17-1377 and Zn=32-938, which are extremely high concentrations of sediments from the mining drainage (As=2006, Cd=l1, Cu=71, Pb=587 and Zn=481 ppm, respectively) than concentrations of the other samples and host granitic gneiss. Major elements (average enrichment index=6.53) in all samples are mostly enriched, excepting $SiO_2$, $Na_2O$ and $K_2O$, normalized by composition of host granitic gneiss. Rare earth element (average enrichment index=2.34) are enriched with the sediments from the mining drainage. Minor and/or environmental toxic elements within all samples on the basis of host rock were strongly enriched of all elements (especially As, Br, Cu, Pb and Zn), excepting Ba, Cr, Rb and Sr. Average enrichment index of trace elements in all samples is 15.55 (sediments of mining drainage=37.33). Potentially toxic elements (As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn) of the samples revealed that average enrichment index is 46.10 (sediments of mining drainage=80.20, sediments of nonmining drainage=5.35, sediments of confluent drainage=20.22, subsurface soils of mining drainage=7.97 and subsurface soils of non-mining drainage=4.15). Sediments and soils of highly concentrated toxic elements are contained some pyrite, arsenopyrite, sphalerite, galena and goethite.

Geochemical Properties of Deep Sea Sediment in the Benthic Environmental Impact Experiment Site (BIS) of Korea (심해 저층환경충격 시험지역의 퇴적물 지화학적 특성)

  • The benthic environmental impact experiment addresses environmental impacts at a specific site related to deep-sea mineral resource development. We have acquired several tens of multi- or box core samples at 31 sites within the Benthic environmental Impact Site (BIS) since 2010, aiming to examine the basic properties of surficial deep-sea sediment as a potential source for deep-water plumes. In this study, we present the geochemical properties such as major elements, rare earth elements (REEs), and heavy metal contents at the BIS. Such proxies vary distinctly according to the Facies association. The lithology of all core sediments in the BIS corresponds to both Association Ib and Association IIIb. The vertical profiles of some major elements ($SiO_2$, $Fe_2O_3$, CaO, $P_2O_5$, MgO, MnO) show noticeable differences between Association Ib and IIIb, while others ($Al_2O_3$, $TiO_2$, $Na_2O$, and $K_2O$) do not vary between Association Ib and IIIb. REEs are also distinctly different for Associations Ib and IIIb; in Association Ib, REY and HREE/LREE are uniform through the sediment section, while they increase downward in Association IIIb like the major elements; below a depth of 8 cm, REY is over 500 ppm. The metal enrichment factor (EF) evaluates the anthropogenic influences of some metals (Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn, and Cd) in marine sediments. In both Associations, the EF for Cu is over 1.5, the EF for Ni and Pb ranges from 0.5 to 1.5, and the EF for Zn and Cd are less than 0.5, indicating Cu is enriched but Zn and Cd are relatively depleted in the BIS. The vertical variations of geochemical properties between Association Ib and IIIb are shown to be clearly different, which seems to be related to the global climate changes such as the shift of Intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).

Crystal Structure and Physical Property of Tetragonal-like Epitaxial Bismuth Ferrites Film

  • Basically, the lattice mismatch between film and substrate can make those BiFeO3(BFO) films distorted with strain structure. BFO phase can be stabilized on LaAlO3(LAO) represents the example of a multiferroic with giant axial ratio. Its crystal structure is not strictly tetragonal, but tetragonal with a slight monoclinic distortion and related to the rotation of the oxygen octahedra. In this study, we show that phases with a tetragonal-like epitaxial BFO films can indeed be ferroelectric and also can be stabilized via epitaxial growth onto LAO. Recent reports on epitaxial BFO films show that the crystal structure changes from nearly rhombohedral ("R-like") to nearly tetragonal("T-like") at strains exceeding approximately -4.5%, with the "T-like" structure being characterized by a highly enhanced c/a ratio. While both the "R-like" and the "T-like" phases are monoclinic, our detailed x-ray diffraction results reveal asymmetry change from MA and MC type, respectively. By applying additional strain or by modifying the unit cell volume of the film by substituting Ba for Bi, the monoclinic distortion in the "T-like" MC phase is reduced, i.e. the system approaches a true tetragonal symmetry. There are two different M-H loops for $Bi_{1-x}Ba_xFeO_{3-{\delta}}$(BBFO) and BFO films on SrTiO3(STO) & LAO substrates. Along with the ferroelectric characterization, these magnetic data indicate that the BFO phase stabilized on LAO represents the first example of a multiferroic with giant axial ratio. However, there is a significant difference between this phase and other predicted ferroelectrics with a giant axial ratio: its crystal structure is not strictly tetragonal, but tetragonal with a slight monoclinic distortion. Therefore, in going from bulk to highly-strained films, a phase sequence of rhombohedral(R)-to-monoclinic ["R-like" MA-to-monoclinic, "T-like" MC-to-tetragonal (T)] is observed. This sequence is otherwise seen only near morphotropic phase boundaries in lead-based solid-solution perovskites (i.e. near a compositionally induced phase instability), where it can be controlled by electric field, temperature, or composition. Our results show that this evolution can occur in a lead-free, stoichiometric material and can be induced by stress alone. Those major results are summarized as follows ; 1) Ba-doping increases the unit cell volume, 2) BBFO on LAO can be fully strained up to x=0.08 as a strain limit (Fig. 1), 3) P(E) & M(H) properties can be tuned by the variation of composition, strain, and film thickness.

  • 최근 디지털 컨버젼스에 의해서 정보 단말기 network가 디지털 기술을 기반으로 유기적으로 융 복합화 되고 있으며 BT, NT, ET, IT의 융합 기술의 필요성이 점차적으로 증대되고 있다. 이러한 환경 하에서 다양한 정보 및 서비스의 송신 및 수신이 가능한 휴대 단말기의 필요성에 부응하여 기존의 전화 기능, 카메라, DMB 이외에도 홈 네트워크, mobile internet 등 더욱 다양한 기능들이 요구되고 있다. 종래에는 수동 부품과 능동 부품의 실장을 별개로 추진했으나 최근에는 수동 및 능동 부품을 하나의 패키지 내에 실장 가능하도록 하는 3-D Integration을 추진하고 있다. 지금까지 여러 부품들을 실장 시키기 위한 공정들의 대부분은 높은 온도에서 공정이 이루어졌으나 여러 부품들을 손상 없이 집적화하고 실장하기 위해서는 저온화 공정이 필요하다. 최근 많은 저온 공정 중에서 Aerosol Deposition Method는 상온에서 세라믹 후막을 성막할 수 있어 가장 주목받고 있는 공정중의 하나이다. 본 연구에서는 3-D Integration을 실현하기 위해 이종 접합에 유리하고 상온에서 성막 공정이 이루어지는 Aerosol Deposition Method를 이용하여 금속 기판 위에 금속, 폴리머, 세라믹 후막을 성막시켰다. 기판 재료로는 Cu 기판을 사용하였으며 출발 파우더로는 Polyimide 파우더와 $Al_2O_3$ 파우더, Ag 파우더를 사용하였으며 이종 접합간의 메커니즘의 양상을 보기 위해 같은 조건에서 이종 접합간의 성막률을 비교하였으며 FE-SEM으로 미세 구조를 관찰하였다. 또한 기판의 표면 거칠기에 따른 메커니즘의 양상을 연구하였다.

Environmental Effect of the Reduced Slag in the Electric Furnace (전기로 제강 환원슬래그 혼합토의 환경적 영향)

  • The oxidation slag has been widely used in civil engineering project, whereas the reduced slag from electric furnace has yet to be applied. Consequently in order to find out the recycling method in civil engineering field, the mineral compositions of the reduced slag were analyzed and some tests on water quality were performed to estimate the potential release of toxic compounds. Slag-soil mixtures of 0, 10, 20 and 30%(dry weight) soil were prepared in lysimeter columns and the effluents were collected with the period of one, two and four week options in closed system, respectively. The result from qualitative and quantitative analysis using X-ray Diffraction(XRD) and X-ray Fluorescence(XRF) indicates that the main mineral of the reduced slag is $Ca_2(SiO_4)$, a kind of calcium silicate. Also, the leaching medium analyzed by Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy(ICP-OES) showed that main heavy metals such as Al, Fe and Mn are included in the reduced slag due to the effect of steel production process. It can be seen that the leachate does not violate the regulation guide line of waste material of heavy metal. Also the pH levels were increased from pH 6.9 for 0% soil to pH 10 for 30% soil. However the influence on leachate circulation period of one through four weeks was negligible.

Polishing Characteristics of passivation layer by abrasive particles and slurry chemical in the Metal CMP process (금속 CMP 공정에서 연마제와 슬러리 케미컬에 의한 passivation layer의 연마특성)

  • The polishing mechanism of W-CMP process has been reported as the repeated process of passive layer formation by oxidizer and abrasion action by slurry abrasives. Thus, it is important to understand the effect of oxidizer on tungsten passivation layer in order to obtain higher removal rate (RR) and very low non-uniformity (NU%) during W-CMP process. In this paper, we investigated the effects of oxidizer on W-CMP process with three different kinds of oxidizers, such as $H_2O_2$, $Fe(NO_3)_3$, and $KIO_3$. In order to compare the removal rate and non-uniformity of three oxidizers, we used alumina-based slurry of pH 4. According to the CMP tests, three oxidizers showed different removal mechanism on tungsten surface. Also, the microstructures of surface layer by AFM image were greatly influenced by the slurry chemical, composition of oxidizers. The difference in removal rate and roughness of tungsten surface are believed to caused by modification in the mechanical behavior of $Al_2O_3$ abrasive particles in CMP slurry. Our stabilized slurries can be used a guideline and promising method for improved W-CMP process.
