The Formal Safety Assessment (FSA) is a structured and systematic methodology developed by the IMO, aimed at assessing the risk of vessels and recommending the method to control intolerable risks, thereby enhancing maritime safety, including protection of life, health, the marine environment and property, by using risk analysis and cost-benefit assessment. While the FSA has mostly been applied to merchant vessels, it has rarely been applied to a DP vessel, which is one of the special purpose vessels in the offshore industry. Furthermore, most of the FSA has been conducted so far by using the Fault Tree Analysis tool, even though there are many other risk analysis tools. This study carried out the FSA for safe operation of DP vessels by using the Bayesian network, under which conditional probability was examined. This study determined the frequency and severity of DP LOP incidents reported to the IMCA from 2001 to 2010, and obtained the Risk Index by applying the Bayesian network. Then, the Risk Control Options (RCOs) were identified through an expert brainstorming and DP vessel simulations. This study recommends duplication of PRS, regardless of the DP class and PRS type and DP system specific training. Finally, this study verified that the Bayesian network and DP simulator can also serve as an effective tool for FSA implementation.
Correct and fast detection of a micro-grid (MG) islanding is essential to the MG since operation, control and protection of the MG depend on an operating mode i.e., an interconnected mode or an islanding mode. When islanding occurs, the frequency of the point of common coupling (PCC) is not the nominal frequency during the transient state owing to the frequency rise or drop of generators in the MG. Thus, the active and reactive power calculated by the frequency domain based method such as Fourier Transform might contain some errors. This paper proposes an islanding detection algorithm for the MG based on the instantaneous active and reactive powers delivered to the dedicated line in the time domain. During the islanding mode, the instantaneous active and reactive powers delivered to the dedicated line are constants, which depend on the voltage of the PCC and the impedance of the dedicated line. In this paper, the instantaneous active and reactive powers are calculated in the time domain and used to detect islanding. The performance of the proposed algorithm is verified under various scenarios including islanding conditions, fault conditions and load variation using the PSCAD/EMTDC simulator. The results indicate that the algorithm successfully detects islanding for the MG.
For mechanical and electrical stability and environment protection, Cu and stainless steel stabilizer is laminated to Ag layer to produce a composite neutral-axis(N-A) architecture in which the YBCO layer is centered between the oxide buffered metallic substrate and stabilizer strip lamination. this architecture allows the wire to meet operational requirements including stresses at cryogenic temperature, winding tensions, mechanical bending requirements thermal and electrical stability under fault conditions. we have experimentally studied mechanical properties of laminated stainless steel stabilizer on YBCO coated conductors. we have laminated YBCO coated conductors by continuous dipping soldering process. we have investigated lamination interface between solder and stabilizer, YBCO coated conductor. we evaluated bonding properties tensile / shear bonding strength, peeling strength laminated YBCO coated conductors.
In this paper, we propose a novel shoot-through protection circuit and pulse generator for half-bridge driver IC. We designed a robust half-bridge driver IC over a variation of processes and power supplies. The proposed circuit is composed a delay circuit using a beta-multiplier reference. The proposed circuit has a lower variation rate of dead time and pulse-width over variation of processes and supply voltages than the conventional circuit. Especially, the proposed circuit has more excellent pulse-width matching of set and reset signals than the conventional circuit. Also, the proposed pulse generator is prevented from fault operations using a logic gate. Dead time and pulse-width of the proposed circuit are typical 250 ns, respectively. The variation ratio is 68%(170 ns) of maximum over variation of processes and supply voltages. The proposed circuit is designed using $1\;{\mu}m$ 650 V BCD (Bipolar, CMOS, DMOS) process parameter, and the simulations are carried out using Spectre simulator of Cadence corporation.

Tuned mass dampers (TMDs) have been frequently proposed to mitigate the detrimental effects of dynamic loadings in structural systems. The effectiveness of this protection strategy has been demonstrated for wind-induced vibrations and, to some extent, for seismic loadings. Within this framework, recent numerical studies have shown that beneficial effects can be achieved by placing a linear TMD on the roof of linear elastic structural systems subjected to pulse-like ground motions. Motivated by these positive outcomes, closed-form design formulations have been also proposed to optimize the device's parameters. For structural systems that undergo a near-fault pulse-like ground motion, however, it is unlikely that their dynamic response be linear elastic. Hence, it is very important to understand whether such strategy is effective for inelastic structural systems. In order to provide new useful insights about this issue, the paper presents statistical results obtained from a numerical study conducted for three shear-type hysteretic (softening-type) systems having 4, 8 and 16 stories equipped with a linear elastic TMD. The effectiveness of two design procedures is discussed by examining the performances of the protected systems subjected to 124 natural pulse-like earthquakes.
Most of the machine learning-based intrusion detection tools developed for Industrial Control Systems (ICS) are trained on network packet captures, and they rely on monitoring network layer traffic alone for intrusion detection. This approach produces weak intrusion detection systems, as ICS cyber-attacks have a real and significant impact on the process variables. A limited number of researchers consider integrating process measurements. However, in complex systems, process variable changes could result from different combinations of abnormal occurrences. This paper examines recent advances in intrusion detection algorithms, their limitations, challenges and the status of their application in critical infrastructures. We also introduce the discussion on the similarities and conflicts observed in the development of machine learning tools and techniques for fault diagnosis and cybersecurity in the protection of complex systems and the need to establish a clear difference between them. As a case study, we discuss special characteristics in nuclear power control systems and the factors that constraint the direct integration of security algorithms. Moreover, we discuss data reliability issues and present references and direct URL to recent open-source data repositories to aid researchers in developing data-driven ICS intrusion detection systems.
Currently, the development of industry makes needs larger electric supply. Providers must consider the efficiency about losses and reliability of the system. In this case, DC power system can save electrical energy; long-distance transmission line losses. Relevance to switch technology with a voltage-source converter (VSC) in AC-DC conversion system have been researched. But, protection device of DC-link against fault current is still needed to study much. VSC DC power system is vulnerable to DC-cable short-circuit and ground faults, because DC-link has a huge size of capacitor filter which releases extremely large current during DC faults. Furthermore, DC has a fatal flaw that current zero crossing is nonexistence. To interrupt the DC, several methods which make a zero crossing is used; parallel connecting self-excited series LC circuit with main switch, LC circuit with power electronic device called hybrid DC circuit breaker. Meanwhile, self-excited oscillator needs a huge size capacitor that produces big oscillation current which makes zero crossing. This capacitor has a quite effective on the price of DCCB. In this paper, hybrid self-excited type superconducting DCCB which are using AC circuit breaker system is studied by simulation tool PSCAD/EMTDC.
Process safety technology has developed from qualitative methods such as HAZOP (hazard and operability study) to semi-quantitative methods such as LOPA (layer of protection analysis), and quantitative methods are actively studied these days. Quantitative risk assessment (QRA) is often based on fault tree analysis (FTA). FTA is efficient, but difficult to apply when failure events are not independent of each other. This problem can be avoided using a Markov process (MP). MP requires definition of all possible states, and thus, generally, is more complicated than FTA. A method is proposed in this work that uses an MP model and a Weibull distribution model in order to construct a reliability model for multiple dependent failures. As a case study, a pressure safety valve (PSV) is considered, for which there are three kinds of failure, i.e. open failure, close failure, and gas tight failure. According to recently reported inspection results, open failure and close failure are dependent on each other. A reliability model for a PSV group is proposed in this work that is to reproduce these results. It is expected that the application of the proposed method can be expanded to QRA of various systems that have partially dependent multiple failure states.

In this study. we searched for the mechanical and electrical properties of laminated coated conductors with stabilizer tape. Stabilizer tape plays a role for mechanical and electrical stability and environmental protection. Cu material stabilizer was laminated to Ag capping layer on SmBCO conductor layer. This architecture allows the wire to meet operational requirements including the stressless at cryogenic temperature and winding tension as well as mechanical bending requirements including thermal and electrical stability under fault current conditions. First, we have experimentally studied mechanical bonding properties of the laminated Cu stabilizers on SmBCO coated conductors. We have laminated SmBCO coated conductors by continuous dipping soldering process, Second, we have investigated electrical properties of the SmBCO coated conductors with stabilizer lamination. We evaluated bonding properties, peeling strength and critical current for laminated SmBCO coated conductors with Cu stabilizers.
