Development of a Voltage Sag Assessment Program Considering Generator Scheduling and Voltage Tolerance (발전기 스케줄링과 부하 전압민감도를 고려한 순간전압강하 평가 프로그램 개발)

  • This paper presents a voltage sag assessment program. The program provides various functions for stochastic assessment of voltage sags such as short-circuit analysis, the determination of the area of vulnerability and the calculation of expected sag frequency(ESF). Effective data visualization functions based on computer graphics and animation were also implemented in the developed program. In this paper, the concept of voltage sag assessment and the assessment method considering generator scheduling and time-varying fault rates are presented. The influence of generator scheduling and time-varying fault rates on voltage sag prediction is also described by performing case studies using the developed program.

A Study on the Depth Dependent Characteristics of Earthquake Ground Motions in a Layered Ground Medium Using Point Source Models (점진원모델을 사용한 층상지반에서의 깊이에 따른 지반운동 특성 변화연구)

  • Variation of seismic wave field in a multi-layered attenuating elastic half space is studied by the propagator matrix method and point source models of which fault-slip functions are defined as ramp functions. In this paper, the earth is modeled as being composed of horizontally stratified layers, with uniform material properties for each layer. The partial differential equations for the seismic motion in each layer are solved using a Fourier Hankel transform approach. Time histories and frequency contents of accelerations and displacements due to a vertical dip-slip and strike-slip point source located in the underlain half space are calculated at the layer interfaces using the developed programs and their characteristics are represented.

  • In this study, a risk assessment model based on the ETA (Event Tree Analysis) and FTA (Fault Tree Analysis) is developed according to the procedure of hazard analysis and risk assessment in order to estimate the risk quantitatively. The FTA technique is applied to estimate the branch probability (frequency) and the ETA technique is applied to estimate the consequence for each branch path on the ET (Event Tree). A risk assessment model is developed by the combination of those ETA and FTA. In addition, the reliability and the validity of the risk assessment model are verified by comparing the risk estimated through the developed model with the actual equivalent fatality.

  • The new method is proposed to improve the dynamics of the phase angle detector during abrupt voltage dip caused by a grid fault. Usually, LPF(low pass filter) is used in the feedback loop of SRF(Synchronous Reference Frame) - PLL (Phase Locked Loop) system because the measured grid voltage contains harmonic distortions and sensor noises. A better transient response can be obtained with the proposed design method for SRF-PLL by the analysis of linearized model of the PLL system including LPF. Furthermore, in the proposed method, the controller gain and LPF cut-off frequency are changed from normal value to transient value when the voltage disturbance is detected. This paper shows the feasibility and the usefulness of the proposed methods through the computer simulation and the experiment.

  • Faults of rotating parts of a train normally generate unexpected frequency band or impulsive sound[1] which has a period when it moves with a constant speed. The former can be detected by the moving frame acoustic holography method, which visualizes sound field that is generated by a moving and emitting pure tone or band limited noise source. We have attempted to apply the method to the latter case: the periodic impulsive sound which generate different signal compared with what can be measured by the band limited noise. The signal to noise ratio which determines the success of early fault detection must also be studied with the impulsive and moving signal. This research shows how the problems related with these issues can be resolved. The main idea is that periodic impulsive signal can be expressed by infinite set of discrete pure tones. This enables us to obtain lots of holograms that visualize periodic impulsive sound field including noise by using the moving frame acoustic holography method. Therefore holograms can be averaged to improve the signal to noise ratio until having reliable information that exhibits where the impulsive sources are.   • Since real-time monitoring system like a fault early detection has been very important, infrared thermography technique as a new diagnosis method was proposed. This study is focused on the damage detection and temperature characteristic analysis of ball bearing using the non-destructive infrared thermography method. In this paper, for the reliability assessment, infrared experimental data were compared with the frequency data of the existing. As results, the temperature characteristics of ball bearing were analyzed under various loading conditions. Finally it was confirmed that the infrared technique was useful for real-time detection of the bearing damages.

  • In industry, various rotating machinery such as pumps, gas turbines, compressors, electric motors, generators are being used as an important facility. Due to the industrial development, they make high performance(high-speed, high-pressure). As a result, we need more intelligent and reliable machine condition diagnosis techniques. Diagnosis technique using hidden Markov-model is proposed for an accurate and predictable condition diagnosis of various rotating machines and also has overcame the speed limitation of time/frequency method by using compensation of the rotational speed of rotor. In addition, existing artificial intelligence method needs defect state data for fault detection. hidden Markov model can overcome this limitation by using normal state data alone to detect fault of rotational machinery. Vibration analysis of step-up gearbox for wind turbine was applied to the study to ensure the robustness of diagnostic performance about compensation of the rotational speed. To assure the performance of normal state alone method, hidden Markov model was applied to experimental torque measuring gearbox in this study.

  • This paper describes the application of Fuzzy Power System Stabilizer(FPSS) for improving dynamic stability of power system. The Real-coding Genetic Algorithm(RGA) was applied to optimize gains of the inputs and outputs of the FPSS. The effectiveness of the proposed FPSS was demonstrated by simulation studies for single-machine infinite system. To show the superiority of the proposed FPSS, its performances were compared with those of Conventional Power System Stabilizer(CPSS) The proposed FPSS showed better control performances than the CPSS in three-phase ground fault under a normal load which was system condition in tuning FPSS. To show the robustness of the proposed FPSS, it was applied to damp the low frequency oscillations caused by disturbances such as three-phase ground fault under heavy and light load conditions. The proposed FPSS showed better performance than CPSS in terms of the settling time and damping effect for power system operation condition.

  • Switched Reluctance Motor is simple structure which used Accel/Decel application field because of cheap cost and High efficiency. For driving this motor, it is essential to need position sensor and driving converter. so, many topology and sensor have been studied untill now. Asymmetric Bridge Converter which has been known for the best control and efficiency is used chopping to control current of motor coil according to changing of motor speed. But this is embossed as a fault because it come to bring switching loss due to rapid switching frequency. In this paper, I applied to Soft Switching Mode by Partial Resonant Method to compensate these fault and to show the usabilityness of low switching device.

  • This study is about the quantitative safety assessment of hydrogen station in Korea operating with on-site type. This was written by background information that before qualitative safety assessment to write. For the qualitative safety assessment method, the study used FMEA(failure mode & effect analysis) and HAZOP(hazard & operability), and adopted the FTA(fault tree analysis) as the quantitative safety assessment method. To write the FTA, we wrote FT by Top event that hydrogen leakage can be called most serious accident of hydrogen station. Each base event collect reliability data by reliability data handbook, THERP-HRA and estimation of the engineering. Assessment looked at the high frequency and the possible risk through Gate, Importance, m.cutsets analysis.
