  • Ball bearings not only sustain the system, but permit the rotational component to rotate. Excessive radial or axial load and many other reasons can cause faults to be created and grown rapidly in each component. The grown faults make noise and vibration, which can make the system unstable. Therefore, it is important to detect faults as early as possible. For this reason, there have been many researches on fault detection method of early faults in a ball bearing. The fault defection methods can be categorized to several groups by signal processing methods. Not all the methods are efficient for finding early faults. We select representative methods known as efficient for detecting early faults and compare the results for inspecting which method is effective.

오신호 입력에 따른 펌프의 고장징후 조기감지 성능분석 (Performance Analysis on Early Detection of Fault Symptom of a Pump with Abnormal Signals)

  • As a method to improve the equipment reliability, early warning researches that can be detected fault symptom of an equipment at an early stage are being performed out among developed countries. In this paper, when abnormal signal is input to actual normal signal of a pump, early detection studies on pump's fault symptom were carried out with auto-associative kernel regression as an advanced pattern recognition algorithm. From analysis, correlations among power of motor driving pump, discharge flow of pump, power output of pump, and discharge pressure of pump are exited. When the abnormal signal is input to one of those normal signals, the other expected values are changed due to the influence of the abnormal signal. Therefore, the fault symptom of pump through the early-warning index is able to detect at an early stage.

  • This paper proposes an early diagnosis technique for the stator-turn fault (STF) in an interior permanent magnet (IPM)-type brushless DC (BLDC) motor using the impedance parameter. We have analyzed the varying characteristics owing to the STF through various experiments and the finite element method (FEM). As a result, we have presented a simple method for fault detection. This technique can be applied without requiring a fast Fourier transform (FFT) and the calculation of the negative-sequence impedance. The fault detection system works on the basis of the comparison the measured impedance with the database impedance. The variations in the characteristics owing to the STF as well as the proposed technique have been verified through the simulation and experiment.

  • The condition assessment of engineering systems has increased in importance because the manpower needed to operate and supervise various plants has been reduced. Especially, induction motors are at the core of most engineering processes, and there is an indispensable need to monitor their health and performance. So detection and diagnosis of motor faults is a base to improve efficiency of the industrial plant. In this paper, a model-based fault detection system is developed for induction motors, using steady state vibration signals. Early various fault detection systems using vibration signals are a trivial method and those methods are prone to have missed fault or false alarms. The suggested motor fault detection system was developed using a model-based reference value. The stationary signal had been extracted from the non-stationary signal using a data segmentation method. The signal processing method applied in this research is FFT. A reference model with spectra signal is developed and then the residuals of the vibration signal are generated. The ratio of RMS values of vibration residuals is proposed as a fault indicator for detecting faults. The developed fault detection system is tested on 800 hp motor and it is shown to be effective for detecting faults in the air-gap eccentricities and broken rotor bars. The suggested system is shown to be effective for reducing missed faults and false alarms. Moreover, the suggested system has advantages in the automation of fault detection algorithms in a random signal system, and the reference model is not complicated.

  • In this paper, time-frequency analysis using wavelet packet transform and advanced-MDSA (Multiple Dimensional Spectral Analysis) which based on wavelet packet transform is applied fur fault source identification and diagnosis of early detection of fault non-stationary sound/vibration signals. This method is analyzing the signal in the plane of instantaneous time and instantaneous frequency. The results of ordinary coherence function, which obtained by wavelet packet analysis, showed the possibility of early fault detection by analysis at the instantaneous time. So, by checking the coherence function trend, it is possible to detect which signal contains the major fault signal and to know how much the system is damaged. Finally, It is impossible to monitor the system is damaged or undamaged by using conventional method, because crest factor is almost constant under the range of magnitude of fault signal as its approach to normal signal. However instantaneous coherence function showed that a little change of fault signal is possible to monitor the system condition. And it is possible to predict the maintenance time by condition based maintenance for any stationary or non-stationary signals.

군집기반 열간조압연설비 상태모니터링과 진단 (Clustering-based Monitoring and Fault detection in Hot Strip Roughing Mill)

  • Purpose: Hot strip rolling mill consists of a lot of mechanical and electrical units. In condition monitoring and diagnosis phase, various units could be failed with unknown reasons. In this study, we propose an effective method to detect early the units with abnormal status to minimize system downtime. Methods: The early warning problem with various units is defined. K-means and PAM algorithm with Euclidean and Manhattan distances were performed to detect the abnormal status. In addition, an performance of the proposed algorithm is investigated by field data analysis. Results: PAM with Manhattan distance(PAM_ManD) showed better results than K-means algorithm with Euclidean distance(K-means_ED). In addition, we could know from multivariate field data analysis that the system reliability of hot strip rolling mill can be increased by detecting early abnormal status. Conclusion: In this paper, clustering-based monitoring and fault detection algorithm using Manhattan distance is proposed. Experiments are performed to study the benefit of the PAM with Manhattan distance against the K-means with Euclidean distance.

MTS를 이용한 가압기 압력 제어 계통의 조기 고장 감지에 대한 연구 (A study on early faults detection of pressurizer pressure control system using MTS)

  • 원자력 발전소의 가압기는 1차 계통의 냉각재가 고온에서도 기화되지 않도록 압력을 가해주는 장치이다. 즉, 가압기의 고장은 원자력 발전소에 큰 영향을 미칠 수 있으며, 따라서, 가압기의 조기 고장 감지는 원자력 발전소의 안전에 매우 중요하다. 이를 위해, 본 연구에서는 마할라노비스 거리 개념과 다구찌 품질 공학 이론에 기반한 패턴 분류 인식 알고리즘 중 하나인 마할라노비스 다구찌 시스템(MTS)을 가압기 압력 제어 계통의 조기 고장 감지에 적용하였다. MTS의 고장 감지 성능을 검증하기 위해, 실제 원자력 발전소에서 발생하고 있는 가압기 압력전송기 고장 시나리오를 대상으로 하여, Full Scope 시뮬레이터를 통해 모사된 데이터에 적용하였다. 실험 결과, MTS는 단일 센서모니터링 기반의 전통적인 고장 감지에 비하여 매우 빠르게 고장을 감지할 수 있었다.

  • In the speed-sensorless induction motor control systems, only a few percents of error in current measurement badly deteriorates the control performance. And early detection and accomodation of the faults of current sensor is very important to enhance the reliability of the induction motor control system. In this paper, we propose two sensor fault detection schemes having desired functions; fault detection, isolation of failed sensor and compensation of fault effect. The two schemes operate in real-time and employ EKFs (Extended Kalman Filter) for residual generation. Simulation results show that the proposed schemes are very useful in maintaining the control performance of the induction motor driven servo systems even in the face of sensor faults.

  • The roller bearings play an important role not only sustain radial or axial load of system, but carry out a rotatory movement as a various operating conditions. They happen that incipient faults which were caused by excessive load, manufacturing or assembling process's errors and many other reasons are created. The bearing faults make noise and vibration by a continuous collision of rotatory components, which can lower the quality and stability of auto-transmission. Therefore, it is important to detect the early fault as soon as possible. This paper presents a detecting method for the improvement in quality by developing the program which can be used to analyze and predict the vibrational characteristics caused by roller bearing faults. We completed development of the inspection system of vibration by appling the most efficient detecting methods and verified the system's reliability through experiments.
