유한요소법을 이용한 치아 임플랜트 피로수명 예측 (FATIGUE LIFE ESTIMATION OF IMPLANT USING A FINITE ELEMENT METHOD)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study is to use finite element analysis to predict the fatigue life of an implant system subjected to fatigue load by mastication (chewing force). The reliability and the stability of implant system can be defined in terms of the fatigue strength. Not only an implant is expensive but also it is almost impossible to correct after it is inserted. From a bio-engineering standpoint, the fatigue strength of the dental implant system must be evaluated by simulation (FEA). Material and Methods Finite element analysis and fatigue test are performed to estimate the fatigue strength of the implant system. Mesh of implant is generated with the actual shape and size. In this paper, the fatigue strength of implant system is estimated. U-fit (T. Strong, Korea, internal type). The stress field in implant is calculated by elastic-plastic finite element analysis. The equivalent fatigue stress, considering the contact and preload stretching of a screw by torque for tightening an abutment, is obtained by means of Sine's method. To evaluate the reliability of the calculated fatigue strength, fatigue test is performed. Results: A comparison of the calculated fatigue strength with experimental data showed the validity and accuracy of the proposed method. The initiation points of the fatigue failure in the implant system exist in the region of high equivalent fatigue stress values. Conclusion: The above proposed method for fatigue life estimation tan be applied to other configurations of the differently designed and improved implant. In order to prove reliability of prototype implant, fatigue test should be executed. The proposed method is economical for the prediction of fatigue life because fatigue testing, which is time consuming and precision-dependent, is not required.

쇼트피닝에 의한 재료의 특성에 관한 연구 (Study on the characteristics of shot peened material)

  • The effects of shot peening an the fatigue strength are studied in this paper. Applying the multistage shot peening on the material. the relation between the residual stress and fatigue strength compressive is investigated. Observing tensile strength elongation. reduction of area. hardness. and roughness. the results can be summarized as follows ; 1.The change of mechanical properties is small before and after the shot peening is carried out. The change of hardness is also small in high hardness material. 2.The surface roughness does not affect the fatigue strength. but the surface roughness is improved by multi-stage shot peening. 3.The fatigue strength of multi-stage shot peening material is 756MPa and is 1.78 times higher than that of un-peened material. 4.The maximum compressive residual strength of multi-stage shot peening material is -792MPa the fatigue strength seems to be improved by residual stress.

  • Because of the severe service environment of the large marine vessel, the fatigue strength and its evaluation play an important role in design and maintenance of marine crankshaft. The aim of this work is to investigate the probability distribution of fatigue lives in crank throw forged steel and to develop the methodology for estimation of the probabilistic design fatigue strength. Detailed studies were performed on the constant amplitude axial loading fatigue test. The experiments were controlled by stress ratio of -1 and 15Hz frequency for each stress level. The considerable variability of fatigue life was observed in each stress level under rigidly controlled constant fatigue testing conditions. The fatigue life of crank throw forged steel was well followed the log-normal and Weibull distribution. In addition, it can be used for the estimation of probabilistic design fatigue strength by using the proposed methodology.

  • The 4-point bending tests have been performed In order to estimate the effect of TIG-dressing on fatigue strength and fatigue characteristics quantitatively for non load-carrying fillet welded joints subjected to pure bending. As a result of fatigue tests, fatigue strengths of as-welded specimens have satisfied the grade of fatigue strength prescribed in specifications of korea, AASHTO and JSSC. Fatigue strength at 2 million cycles of TIG-dressing specimens have increased compared with as-welded specimens. As the result of beachmark tests, fatigue cracks occurred at several points, where the radius of curvature and flank angle in the weld bead toes were low, and grew as semi-elliptical cracks, then approached to fracture. As a result of finite element analysis, stress concentration factor in weld bead toes has closely related to the flank angle and radius of curvature, and between these, the radius of curvature has more largely affected in stress concentration factor than flank angle. As a result of fracture mechanics approaches, the crack correction factor of test specimens has largely affected on stress gradient correction factor in case a/t is below 0.4. From the relations between stress intensity factor range estimated from FEM analysis and fatigue crack growth rate, fatigue life has been correctly calculated.

Constant amplitude fatigue test of high strength bolts in grid structures with bolt-sphere joints

  • The grid structure with bolt-sphere joints is widely adopted by industrial plants with suspending crane. The alternating reciprocating action of the suspending crane will cause fatigue problems of the grid structure with bolt-sphere joints with respect to the rod, the cone, the sealing plate, the bolt ball and the high strength bolt; while the fatigue of the high strength bolt is the key issue of fatigue failure. Based on efficient and smooth loading equipment with the AMSLER fatigue testing machine, this paper conducted a constant amplitude fatigue test on 18 M20 and 14 M30 high strength bolts with 40Cr material, and obtained 19 valid failure points, 9 unspoiled points with more than 2 million cycles, and 4 abnormal failure points. In addition, it established the constant amplitude fatigue design method, ${[{\Delta}{\sigma}]_{{2{\times}10}}{^6=58.91MPa}$, and analyzed the stress concentration and the fatigue fracture of high strength bolts. It can be explained that the geometrical stress concentration of high-strength bolt caused by spiral burr is severe.

  • This study deals with the evaluation of bending fatigue strength in shaving gears, We manufactured gears using manufacture processes that are currently used in most gears manufacturing companies. The test gears are hobbed then the tooth surface are treated by a combination of shaving carbonizing and shot peening. The constant stress amplitude fatigue test is performed by using an electrohydraulic servo-controlled pulsating tester. The S-N curves are obtained and illustrated. In this study we investigated the effect of shaving process and shot peening on fatigue strength, The effect of shaving process ad shot peening on the fatigue strength is evaluated quantitatively,. The enhancement of fatigue strength due to shaving process and shot peening is clarified

Fatigue Strength Evaluation of the Clinch Joints of a Cold Rolled Steel Sheet

  • Static tensile and fatigue tests were conducted using tensile-shear specimens to evaluate the fatigue strength of a SPCC sheet clinch joint. The maximum tensile strength of the specimen produced at the optimal punching force was 1750 kN. The fatigue endurance limit (=760 N) approached 43% of the maximum tensile load (=1750 N) at a load ratio of 0.1, suggesting that the fatigue limit is approximately half of the value of the maximum tensile strength. The FEM analysis showed that at the fatigue endurance limit, the maximum von-Mises stress of 373 MPa is very close to the ultimate tensile strength of the SPCC sheet (=382 MPa).

Experimental evaluation of fatigue strength for small diameter socket welded joints under vibration loading condition

  • To investigate how the fabrication and repair of socket welded joints could be used to enhance fatigue resistance under vibration condition, experimental test data of installation conditions that potentially influence fatigue strength were analyzed with the S-N curve. It was found that the decreasing fatigue strength of stainless steel socket welded joints was attributed to the effect of high heat input of welding process. The effect of welding method, slip-on gap and radial-gap conditions on fatigue strength was insignificant. The test data of repair technique application, 2 × 1 leg length and of socket weld overlay, clearly showed higher fatigue strength but there was a limitation for higher stress region because of the weld toe crack.

플레이트거더 용접구조상세의 피로거동에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Fatigue Behavior of the Welded Structural Details in Plate Girder)

  • The objective of this study is to examine fatigue strength of the welded details. In order to attain the goal of this study, the bending fatigue tests was performed for four kinds of welded details used in steel bridges, such as in-plane gusset, out-of-plane gusset, cruciform, and cover plate. The effect of the length of welded attachment on fatigue strength was greater in out-of-plane gusset than in in-plane gusset. The fatigue strength of welded details with short attachment was superior to that with long attachment. Fatigue strength of welded details with transversely loaded welds was lower than that with longitudinally loaded welds, and those results were not satisfied with AASHTO specifications. For the fatigue strength of cover plate, cover plate with rectangular section was superior to that with tapered section. It was found that the fatigue crack initiates at the points of stress concentration which are the boundary between the base metal and the bead of weld in the part of the longitudinal edge of attachment, and propagates first along the boundary and along the perpendicular to the direction of the principle stress in the base metal of welded tip.

  • Valve springs with high fatigue strength corresponding to the incresement of working stresses, are required for the higher generating power and the better fuel economy of automobile engines. For this purpose, high strength oil tempered wires are being used. By a method of the high strength for the valve spring, modification of manufacturing processes is being applied. In this case, the cause and effect for the improvement of the fatigue strength has not yet been explained obviously. Therefore, in this report, comparison of fatigue life between valve springs of conventional processes with oil tempered wires and new manufacturing processes was made. As a result of the fatigue test, the fatigue life of the latter was attained maximum 7 times than that of the former. It was cleared that the improvement of the fatigue life was caused by difference of compressive residual stresses at depth of 0.2mm below the inner side surface of both valve springs.
