In this paper, static and fatigue bending strengths of CFRP(carbon fiber reinforced plastic laminates having impact damage(FOD) are evaluated. Composite laminates used for this experiment are CF/EPOXY and CF/PEEK orthotropy laminated plates, which have two-interfaces[${0^0}_4{90^0}_4}$]$_sym$. A steel ball launched by the air gun colides against CFRP laminates to generate impact damages. The damage growth during bending fatigue test is observed by the scanning acoustic microscope(SAM). When the impacted side is compressed, the residual fatigue bending strength of CF/PEEK specimen P is greater that that of CF/EPOXY SPECIMEN B. On the other hand, when the impacted side is in tension, the residual fatigue bending strength of CF/PEEK speicemen P is smaller than that of CF/EPOXY specimen B. In the case of impacted-side compression, fracture is proposed from the transverse crack generated near impact point. On the other hand, fracture is developed toward the impact point from the edge of interface-b delamination in the case of impacted-side tension.
Previous researches for fiber reinforced composite material(FRCM) have been evaluated the fatigue delamination behavior using the traditional fracture mechanics parameters. Therefore. previous researches for FRCM have not generally been firmed yet. Because delamination growth behavior in FRCM should be consider relationship between delamination area, A$\sub$D/ and crack length, a instead of traditional fracture mechanics parameters. Especially, in case of delamination behavior for FRCM without crack should be considering equivalent crack, i.e., pseudo crack, a$\sub$p/, using the fracture behavior of FRCM with crack. The major purpose of this study was to evaluate the delamination for FRCM without crack. The details of the studies are as follow : 1) Relationship between crack growth rate, da/dN and stress intensity factor, ΔK in FRCM containing a saw-cut and circular hole with crack. 2) Propose of PSEUDO CRACK MODEL for the delamination in FRCM without crack. 3) Analysis of crack propagation energy, E$\sub$crack/ using a total energy, E$\sub$total/ and delamination growth energy, E$\sub$del/.
The advanced piezoelectric ceramic composite actuator, which is called LIPCA with the FRP and the optimization of the laminate configuration, was performed to maximize the stress transfer and the fiber bridging effect. This study evaluated the effect of variable electric fields on the PZT characteristic, laminate configuration and fatigue characteristics under the resonance frequency, which meant the largest performance range and the changes of its interlaminar phase were also evaluated by stages. In conclusions, Comparing with the fatigue lift of intact LIPCA, the fatigue life of LIPCA embedded by the artificial delamination was decreased up to 50%. The micro void growth and the coalescence of epoxy were actively made at the interlaminar phase subject to the large tensile stress.
The main object of this study was evaluated by the delamination damage for fiber stacking angle. Therefore, this work need to compare the shape of delamination for a different fiber stacking angie. So this study uses a method of fatigue test which was created [0]$_2$,[+45]$_2$[90]$_2$. The extension of the delamination zone formed between aluminium alloy and glass fiber-adhesive layer were measured by an ultrasonic C-scan image. As a result, the shapes of delamination zone don't depend upon the crack propagation. We could know that the delamination zone grew interaction between stress flow of fiber layer and crack driving force. Hence, the existing study were applied to the stress transfer, fiber bridging effect, delaminantion growth rate should need to the develop useful factor because of change of fiber stacking angle.
It could make the LIghtweight Piezoelectric Composite Actuator (LIPCA) damageable by the cyclic large deformation. If the progressive microvoid coalescence of LIPCA interlaminar took place, the decrease of the stiffness and the weakness of stress transmission and fiber bridging effect would make the fatigue characteristics worse suddenly. Therefore, it is required to study the variation of fatigue behavior and interlaminar condition in LIPCA under resonant frequencies. These studies such as the changeable fatigue phase and interlaminar behavior of LIPCA affected by the resonant frequencies should be carried out due to the strong anisotropy of CFRP layer. Hence, these studies are as follows. 1) The residual stresses distribution of interlaminar in LIPCA using the Classical Lamination Theory (CLT). 2) Comparative analysis of interlaminar behavior for the intact LIPCA versus LIPCA containing an artificial delamination during resonant frequency.
It is considered that the application of advanced composite materials to the prostheses for the disables is important to improve their bio-mechanical performance. Particularly, energy storing foot prosthesis is mostly important to restore gait ability of the disables with low-extremity amputation since it could provide propulsion at terminal stance enhancing the disables ability to walk long distance even run and jump. Therefore, the energy storing spring of Prosthetic foot keel under cyclic bending moment use mainly of high strength glass fiber reinforced plastic. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the stacking sequence effect using the delamination growth rate(dA$_{D}$/dN) of energy storing spring in glass fiber reinforced plastic under cyclic bending moment. The test results indicated that the shape of delamination zone depends on stacking sequence in GFRP laminates. Delamination area(A$_{D}$) turns out that variable types with the contour increased non-linearly toward the damage zones.nes.
Due to their intrinsic anisotropy, composite materials show quite complicated damage mechanism with their fiber orientation and stacking sequence and especially, their fatigue damage process is sequential occurrence of matrix cracking, delamination and fiber breakage. In the study, to propose new model capable of describing damage mechanism under fatigue loading, fatigue analysis of composite laminates based on damage mechanics, are performed. The average stress is disassembled with stress components of matrix, fiber and interlaminar interface through stress analysis. Each stress components are used to assess static damage analysis based on continuum damage mechanics (C.D.M.). Fatigue damage curves are obtained from hysteresis loop and assessed by the fatigue damage analysis. Then, static and fatigue damage analysis are combined. Expected results such as stress-cycle relation are verified by the experimental results of fatigue tests.

Electrical resistance change measurements were performed, to detect fatigue damage of a quasi-isotropic CFRP and cross-ply CFRP laminates. A four-probe method was used to measure the exact electrical resistance change. A three-probe method was used to measure the electrical contact resistance change, during long cyclic loading. The specimen side surface was observed using a video-microscope to detect damage. The measured electrical resistance changes were compared with the observed damage. The results of this study show that the electrical resistance increase of the quasi-isotropic laminate was caused by a delamination crack between ${\pm}45^{\circ}$ plies. Matrix cracking caused a small electrical resistance increase of the cross-ply laminate, but the decreased electrical resistance caused by the shear-plastic deformation impedes matrix-cracking detection.
It is well known that the fatigue damage process in composite materials is very complicated due to complex failure mechanisms that comprise debounding, matrix cracking, delamination and fiber splitting of laminates. Therefore, the residual strength, instead of a single dominant crack length, is chosen to describe the criticality of the damage accumulated in the sublaminate. In this study, two models for residual strength degradation established by Yang-Liu and Tanimoto-Ishikawa that are capable of predicting the statistical distribution of both fatigue life and residual strength have been investigated and compared. Statistical methodologies for fatigue life prediction of composite materials have frequently been adopted. However, these are usually based on a simplified probabilistic approach considering only the variation of fatigue test data. The main object of this work is to propose a fatigue reliability analysis model which accounts for the effect of all sources of variation such as fabrication and workmanship, error in the fatigue model, load itself, etc. The proposed model is examined using the previous experimental data of GFRP and it is shown that it can be practically applied for fatigue problems in composite materials.
