  • The fuselage-wing intersection suffers from the cyclic bending moment of variable amplitude. Therefore, the influence of cyclic bending moment on the delamination and the fatigue crack propagation behavior in AFRP/Al laminate of fuselage-wing was investigated in this study. The cyclic bending moment fatigue test in AFRP/Al laminate was performed with five levels of bending moment. The shape and size of the delamination Lone formed along the fatigue crack between aluminum sheet and aramid fiber-adhesive layer were measured by an ultrasonic C-scan. The relationships between da/dN and ΔK, between the cyclic bending moment and the delamination zone size, and between the fiber bridging behavior and the delamination zone were studied. As results, fiber failures were not observed in the delamination zone in this study, the fiber bridging modification factor increases and the fatigue crack growth rate decrease and the shape of delamination zone is semi-elliptic with the contour decreasing non-linearly toward the crack tip.

  • The aramid fiber reinforced metal laminates(AFRMLs) used for the wing part fair flight suffer the cyclic bending moment of variable amplitude during service. The fatigue crack propagation and delamination behavior in AFRMLs containing a saw-cut and circular hole was investigated using the average stress criterion(ASC) model. Mechanical tests were carried out using the cyclic bending moment of 4.9 N . m and delamination was observed by ultrasonic C-scan images. In case of AFRMLs containing a saw-cut fatigue crack propagated in aluminum matrix, inducing delamination. However, in case of AFRMLs containing a circular hole, delamination formed with two types under cyclic bending moment of 4.9 N . m. First, delamination formed along the fatigue crack in aluminum matrix. Second, delamination formed without any fatigue crack around the circular hole. Therefore, delamination was formed depending on the stress distribution near the circular hole.

  • Aluminum/Aramid Fiber Reinforced Plastic(Al/AFRP) laminates are applied to the fuselage-wing intersection. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the delamination zone behavior of Al/AFRP with a saw-cut and circular hole using average stress criterion and the effect of notch geometry. Mechanical tests were carried out to determine the cyclic-bending moment and delamination zone observed ultrasonic C-scan pictures. In case of Al/AFRP containing saw-cut specimen, the shape and size of the delamination zone formed along the fatigue crack. However, in case of Al/AFRP containing circular hole specimen, the shape and size of delamination zone formed two types. first type, delamination zone formed along the fatigue crack. Second type, not observed fatigue crack. Therefore, delamination zone was formed dependently of the circular hole shape.

  • Initiation and growth of delamination is a great concern of designers of composite structures. Interface elements with de-cohesive constitutive law in the content of continuum damage mechanics can be used to predict initiation and growth of delamination in single and mixed mode conditions. In this paper, an interface element based on the cohesive zone method has been developed to simulate delaminatoin growth of post-buckled laminate under fatigue loading. The model was programmed as the user element and user material by the "User Programmable Features" in ANSYS finite element software. The interface element is a three-dimensional 20 node brick with small thickness. Because of mixed-mode condition of stress field at the delamination-front of post-buckled laminates, a mixed-mode bilinear constitutive law has been used as user material in this model. The constitutive law of interface element has been verified by modelling of a single element. A composite laminate with initial delamination under quasi-static compressive Loading available from literature has been remodeled with the present approach. Moreover, it will be shown that, the closer the delamination to the free surface of laminate, the slower the delamination growth under compressive fatigue loading. The effects of laminate configuration on delamination growth are also investigated.

  • Although the previous researches evaluated the fatigue behavior of glass fiber/epoxy laminates using the traditional fracture mechanism, their researches were not sufficient to do it: the damage zone of glass fiber/epoxy laminates was occurred at the delamination zone instead of the crack-metallic damages. Thus, previous researches were not applicable to the fatigue behavior of glass fiber/epoxy laminates. The major purpose of this study was to evaluate delamination behavior using the relationship between crack length and delamination width in hybrid composite material such as Al/GFRP laminate. The details of investigation were as follows : 1) Relationship between crack length and delamination width, 2) Relationship between delamination aspect ratio and delamination area rate, 3) Variation of delamination growth rate is attendant on delamination shape factors. The test results indicated that the delamination growth rate depends on delamination width delamination aspect ratio and delamination shape factors.

  • Aluminum 5052/Aramid Fiber Reinforced Plastic(Al5052/AFRP) laminates are applied to the fuselage-wing intersection. The Al5052/AFRP laminates suffer from the cyclic bending moment of variable amplitude during the service. Therefore, the influence of cyclic bending moment on the delamination and the fatigue crack propagation behavior in Al5052/AFRP laminate was investigated in this study. Al5052/AFRP laminate composite consists of three thin sheets of Al5052 and two layers of unidirectional aramid fibers. The cyclic bending moment fatigue tests were performed with five different levels of bending moment. The shape and size of the delamination zone formed along the fatigue crack between Al5052 sheet and aramid fiber-adhesive layer were measured by an ultrasonic C-scan. The relationships between da/dN and ΔK, between the cyclic bending moment and the delamination zone size, and between the fiber bridging mechanism and the delamination zone were studied. Fiber failures were not observed in the delamination zone in this study. It represents that the fiber bridging modification factor should turn out to increase and that the fatigue crack growth rate should decrease. The shape of delamination zone turns out to be semi-elliptic with the contour decreased non-linearly toward the crack tip.

  • The hybrid composite material (Al/GFRP laminates) are applied to the fuselage and wing in a aircraft. Therefore, Al/GFRP laminates suffer from the cyclic bending moments. This study was to evaluate the effect of fiber stacking angle on the fatigue crack propagation and delamination behavior using the relationship between crack growth rate (da/dN) and stress intensity factor range (ΔK) in Al/GFRP laminates under cyclic bending moment. The variable delamination growth behavior in case of three different type of fiber orientations, i.e., [Al/O$_2$/Al], [Al/+45$_2$/Al] and [Al/90$_2$/Al] at the interface of Al layer and glass fiber layer was measured by ultrasonic C-scan images. As results of this study, It represent that the delamination shape should turns out to have more effective characteristics on the fiber stacking angle. The extension of the delamination zone in case of [Al/+45$_2$/Al] and [Al/90$_2$/Al] were not formed along the fatigue crack profile. The shape of delamination zone depend on fiber stacking angle and the variable type with the delamination contour decreased non-linearly toward the crack tip at the Al layer.

  • Because of the low melting temperature of solder, each temperature cycle initiates an irrecoverable creep deformation at the solder interconnection which connects the package body with the PCB. The crack starts and propagates from the position where the creep deformation is maximized. This work has tried to compare and analyze the thermal fatigue life of solder interconnection which is affected by the lead material, the size of die pad, chip thickness, and interface delamination of 48-Pin TSOP under the temperature cycle ($0^{\circ}C$~1$25^{\circ}C$). The crack initiation position and thermal fatigue life which are calculated by using FEA method are well matched with the results of experiments. The thermal Fatigue life of copper lead frame is extended around 3.6 times longer than that of alloy 42 lead frame. It is maximized when the chip size is matched with the length of the lead. It tends to be extended as the thickness of chip got thinner. As the interfacial delamination between die pad and EMC is increased, the thermal fatigue life tends to decrease in the beginning of delamination, and increase after the delamination grew after 45% of the length of die pad.

  • The influence of cyclic bending moment on the delamination and the fatigue crack propagation behavior in Al/GFRP laminate such as the wing section was investigated. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the relationship between crack profile and delamination behavior. And a propose parameter on the delamination growth rate(d $A_{D}$/da) of Al/GFRP laminates with a saw-cut using relationship between delamination area( $A_{D}$) and cycles(N), crack length(a), stress intensity factor range($\Delta$K). Also, the fiber bridging effect factor( $F_{BE}$ ) was propose that the fiber bridging modification factor($\beta$$_{fb}$ ) to evaluate using the delamination growth rate(d $A_{D}$/da). The shape and size of the delamination zone formed along the fatigue crack between aluminum alloy sheet. Class fiber-adhesive layer were measured by an ultrasonic C-scan image. The shape of delamination zone turns out to be semi-elliptic with the contour decreased non-linearly toward the crack tip. It represents that relationship between crack length and delamination growth rate(d $A_{D}$/da) were interdependent by reciprocal action, therefore it's applicable present a model for the delamination growth rate(dA/sib D//da) in Al/GFRP laminates.minates.s.
