  • Today, the convergence of fashion design and digital technology has become a popular method and accordingly been tried variously in the fashion area. This study aimed to analyze the character of the collaboration with fashion and technology, and the meaning of technology as emotional expression methods. Selected designer's collections, literature and other related studies were reviewed in order to analyze the generative structure of the meaning and the binary-opposition in the convergence of body, fashion design and technology. Literatures and selected designer's collections were reviewed and quantitatively studies were performed to classify the convergence of human bodies, fashion design and technology through Greimas Semiotics rectangle based on binary-opposition of meaning and isotophy analysis. The research presents three types of fashion technology methods: mechanical movement, light/digital media, and virtual image. The convergence of fashion and technology was classified as the direct convergence and the indirect convergence. The direct convergence was characterized by variability and has automatic, independent movement, but the indirect convergence was shown closed and to have contradistinctive images.

  • This study suggests a new perspective for designing men's tailored jackets by more carefully considering human muscle structure. For this study, we examined research regarding the construction of the tailored jacket that is based on costume history references, as well as research regarding human muscle structure that is based on human anatomy references and the analysis of recent fashion designs illustrating the human body image. Based on this research, we developed various tailored constructions that account for human muscle structure. These constructions are applied primarily to the backs of four tailored jackets, as the back of the jacket needs a mechanism to accommodate the wearer's movement. The following conclusions have been derived from the study: First, by developing the tailored garment structure that accounts for the muscle structure of the human body, we suggest a new design direction for tailored garments. Second, we propose a new type of tailored jacket structure for the back of the jacket that incorporates an artificial muscle structure to accommodate the wearer's activities. This new type of jacket indicates the potential for designs that use structure, particularly the structure of the human body. Finally, by using the embroidery technique, we changed the texture of the material into the shape of human muscle. Thus, we propose a design that uses three-dimensional volume to accounts for the shape of human body tissue.

  • The Purpose of this study is to demonstrate Storytelling as an effective device for Fashion Design by establishing relationship between Fashion Design Process and Storytelling. Through researching a social background and a concept of storytelling, found that story used interactively is a powerful tool for attention, understanding and change in both individuals and communities. Analysed the elements and the structure of storytelling and Fashion Design Process, by researching preceding researches. Therefore, we proposed a new four elements -text factor, visual factor, audio factor and virtual factor- and four steps (1)exploring stories, (2)planning a story, (3)building the story, (4)do storytelling- of storytelling and four steps-(1)gathering and analysing informations, (2)building a concept, (3)planning and developing a design, (4)do evaluation and make decision- of fashion design process. Through comparative analysis, we found a closeness between two structures, a use of common factors and also found characteristics to be considered in each stage. In the first stage, we found text, visual and audio factor as common factors. In the second stage, we suggested text and visual factor as common factors and also suggested clarity, realism and probability as characteristics. In the third stage, we found text, visual and virtual factor and also found dynamism, immersion and continuity. In the last stage, we suggested text, visual, virtual and audio factor and also suggested presence and interactivity as characteristics.

  • This study conceptually approaches and clearly compares the similarities and differences of fashion and architecture through a focus on their correlations. This study identifies the conceptual definitions of functional minimalism by an examination of function that represents the largest similarity between architecture and fashion. This study classifies the nature of functional minimalism and studies cases for each architectural classification in the areas of: the simplicity of a structure, unitarity pursuit of economic value, repeatability in an efficiency unit, reducibility stressing property, and multi-functional spatiality. The characteristics of functional minimalism fashion are distinguish as: simplicity in a structure that highlight structural lines in non-decorated design, unitarity pursuit of economic value represented in united process and pattern for its economic effect, repeatability in an efficiency unit represented through the repeated decoration of a functional unit, reducibility stressing a property that emphasizes property with a dominant design element through a highlight of the characteristics of materials and multi-functional spatiality that represents variability in clothes through an expansion of limited spatial function. This study approaches each discipline with a clear understanding of the differences between the two and suggests standards for a comparative study of architecture and fashion.

  • This study explores the organic form generation method, which reflects the evolving biomimetic approaches converging in fashion technology and considers the characteristics of the organic relationship between the body and the clothing to be represented in contemporary fashion. A literature review on biomimetic architecture and design-related theory and a case study on biomimetic fashion were both conducted. Images, articles, and data related to biomimicry fashion and clothing, including the increase in virtual fashion cases around 2020, were analyzed based on the literature review. Biomimicry was used to derive interdisciplinary similarities in the organic morphogenesis principle, and the result was categorized as a network system, folds and unfolds, pneumatic structures, auxetic growth, and membranes. The biomimetic fashion characteristics, including externalization of the body's interior, expansion of the body structure and silhouette, body protection, independence from the body, and post-human expression through virtualization, were analyzed. Morphogenetic processes performed through biomimetic vision are expected to aid in generating research on the possibility of mass production or popularization in the future through various experimental technical studies.

  • The purpose of this study was to find out criteria for classifying fashion brand from the consumer point of view. This was compared with the viewpoint of fashion business practice in order to develop strategy of fashion brands and to manage brand effectively and systematically, and to suggest theoretical frame for application of these criteria. This study was researched as the succeeding study of a model of criteria for classifying fashion brands from the viewpoint of fashion business practice. Survey was used as a research method. The subjects were 422 women who were 20-30 years old and living in and near Seoul. Questionnaires were developed based on 37 fashion brands' classification criteria by means of pre-survey, and SPSS package and LISREL program were used to analyze the data. As a result of factor analysis considering 37 classification criteria, 8 factors were identified as classification criteria. They were as follows; the level of brand form, the level of product concept, the level of management item, the level of brand sales ability, the level of customer management, the level of brand advertising and awareness, the level of brand value, and the level of product lead ability. All of criteria were correlated to each other. The effective method to classify fashion brands was proposed by establishing the model of the relationship of the values of 7 criteria and by proving it with the structure equation model analysis. The model of criteria for classifying fashion brands that was suggested on this study was proved by the structure equation model analysis. In this study, from a consumer's point of view we suggested a theoretical framework describing which criteria would be selected to classify and utilize fashion brand market. This model can be used to select the most efficient classification criteria and classify them hierarchically instead of selecting only one among some factors that complex and interactional and classifying.

  • The purpose of this study was to find out criteria for classifying fashion brand from the viewpoint of fashion business practice in order to develop strategy of fashion brands and to manage brand effectively and systematically, and to suggest theoretical frame for application of these criteria. Survey was implemented for this research. 388 Data from the people who works for merchandising, sales or design in fashion business company was analyzed. Questionnaires were developed based on 37 fashion brand classification criteria. SPSS package and LISREL program were used to analyze data. Factor analysis, one-way ANOVA, $$\mu$tiple response analysis, correlation analysis, and structure equation model analysis were applied. The results of this study were as follows First, factor analysis considering 37 classification criteria identified 7 factors as classification criteria which can be used effectively by fashion business company. Second, in two cases, based on the job description and the responsible items, analysis showed that importance of the 7 classification criteria factors was different. And all of 7 criteria were correlated to each other. Third, the effective method to classify fashion brands was proposed by establishing the model of the relationship among the values of 7 criteria and by proving it by the structure equation model analysis. And the two types of the courses to classify fashion brand were shown. Forth, according to the evaluation of these criteria in the importance of appropriateness and difficulty of implementing, classification criteria factor of "the level of product concept" was found to be very effective and "the level of brand value" was ineffective to apply.
