A total of 91 articles were selected from three fashion magazines and content analysis was applied to extract major factors. Four types of trading areas and eight product types were compared by the major factors. As results, six major factors composing competitive strategy were analyzed such as personal selling, management of sales forces, promotion, customer relationship management, management of store space, and relationship with headquarter. Comparing competitive factors by the types of trading area, management of sales forces and personal selling were crucial for central district and for outlets/interchange district. On the other hand, personal selling and customer relationship management were important for local district while management of store space and personal selling were critical for tenants of the large discount store/shopping mall area. Comparing by product types, personal selling was the most important factor for all product types except young casualwear whereas the second important one was management of sales forces for adult casualwear, womenbbbs wear, and others. For menbbbs wear, sales promotion was the second important one whereas management of store space was the second crucial one for underwear and childrenbbbs clothing. Based on the present study result, it is proposed that competitive strategy of individual fashion brand franchise store should be differently developed because the characteristics of trading area and product type are different and in turn, customers benefit and competition might be different.

  • Metaverse is a digitally generated world beyond the physical realm; many fashion brands are launching virtual stores in Metaverse. This study explores the cases of flagship stores of fashion brands in Metaverse to understand the peculiarity of Metaverse retailing. This study selected four flagship stores of fashion brands launched on ZEPETO, the largest Metaverse platform in Korea. The characteristics of Metaverse retailing used for case analysis were store (store credibility, servicescape, ease of use), product (content, demos, incentives), social factor (store personnel, store customers), and entertainment (events, games, free gifts). The results illustrate that a transaction system linked to reality could not be established due to technical limitations; it was difficult to obtain specific product information, such as the color, size, and fabric. However, all four fashion brands overwhelmed the traditional retail channels in terms of providing various spatial experiences by operating their virtual stores in global cities related to the heritage and identity of each brand. Furthermore, fashion brands can convey a sense of deviation and fantasy to consumers by delivering unique entertainment activities in Metaverse that they cannot easily provide in real life.

  • This study investigated the effect of offering eco-friendly fashion items on consumers' perceived image of stores and their intention to purchase food in a hybrid cafe setting. The data were collected using an online survey of 465 adults aged 20 to 49 years. In order to compare 'a general cafe' where only food is sold and 'a hybrid cafe' which offers eco-friendly fashion items as well as food, we developed two store types (general×hybrid) with two store designs (modern×eco-friendly) as stimuli, resulting in four scenarios. The results indicated that offering eco-friendly fashion items at a cafe did not significantly affect consumers' perceived eco-friendly image of the store. Further, this negatively affected consumers' perceived healthy and tasty images of the store and intention to purchase food. Such negative effects on the healthy and tasty images of the store increased in the store with a modern design. In conclusion, offering eco-friendly fashion items at cafes may not contribute to enhancing the stores' images or sales.
