This case study is centered on the developing process for the curriculum of fashion design major that is focused on the concept of competency, which is becoming increasingly more important in universities. The purpose of this study is to develop a competency-oriented curriculum for fashion design majors based on recent social changes that accentuate the importance of competency in such programs. In order to establish a competency-oriented curriculum of the Department of Fashion Design, the researchers examined environmental trends within the fashion industry, the curriculum and major competencies of other universities were examined. As a result, the key ability types of the Department of Fashion Design at A University, a local private university, were determined to be: communication and consideration, creativity and convergence, digital fashion, and practical adaptability. Four major abilities were selected to develop competencies suitable for the aforementioned ability types. These abilities are design planning and development, creative and convergent thinking, integrated information search and utilization, and field expertise application. From there, the curriculum was organized with these four major abilities in mind, and curriculum completion plans were developed for each grade and semester according to the stage and level of contents for each subject. To ensure the validity of the curriculum, it is necessary to develop a back-flow system that demonstrates whether the targer competency has been acquired through a competence-based curriculum.
In this study, we aimed to apply 3D digital printing to basic clothing production and to propose futuristic fashion design and production methods that correspond to contemporary trends. Literature on future trends, dynamism, mechanical aesthetics, and experimentalism were used to define the characteristics of "futurism." Based on theoretical considerations about futurism, we created fashion designs using 3D digital printing methods. These designs were produced using the aesthetic characteristics of futurism; the 3D digital clothing program; and application of digital printing technologies to futuristic silhouettes, colors, and materials. The results were as follows: First, with the application of futurism as a fashion motif, we pursued collaboration between artistic work and fashion, and we then explored the possibility of creative expression. Second, harmony between achromatic and chromatic colors revealed even better dynamism and activeness, and the potential to express dynamism was observed. Third, with the development of fashion design processes based on 3D digital printing methodologies, it was found to be possible to eliminate the limitations of time and space, solve problems related to limited budget or communication, and positively influence the fashion industry by enhancing convenience and diversity. Fourth, with the development of fashion design that utilizes digital printing, it was found that problems related to time, space, or limited budget were able to be solved, as compared to the use of traditional printing and image reproduction.
This study aims to contribute to the development of sports wearables. It was conducted by a convergence team of professionals in the fashion industry, kinesiology and sports studies, and computer science and engineering. The purpose of the current study was to design and develop a fabric-type fitness band for a sensor to measure acceleration during jump rope exercises. Computer science and engineering professionals developed the Arduino board and sensor, kinesiology and sports studies provided the necessary exercise protocol, and the fashion industry professionals developed the band. First, a fitness band preference survey was completed by men and women between the ages of 20 and 50. Typical uses of the band included tracking exercise amount as measured by the number of steps taken and calories burned. Strap watch closure, a single color and achromatic color, and soft and smooth touch materials were preferred as band design. Second, two fabric-type fitness bands were designed and developed. Design 1 had a 3-dimensional pocket for the sensor, bright blue color, and stretch binding around the edges and for a loop. Design 2 had a flat pocket for the sensor, achromatic color, mesh binding around the edges and two metal loops. Both designs had Velcro as a closure. Third, wear testing of both bands with the sensor were conducted of 15 women in their 20s. They wore the bands during jump rope exercises. Both bands generally satisfied the participants. The Design 2 band was slightly more satisfying than the Design 1 band.
This study analyzes traditional women's Hu costumes of the Tang dynasty, and deploys a creative fashion design to converge contemporary and traditional styles. In this costume, women wear a robe with striped or plain patterns in the lower part of the pants, and it appears frequently in red and yellow colors. Depending on the sleeve, it is either a round collar or a turn down collar robe. In the Hu hat, the huntuomao and juanyanxumao were leather and mili and weimao were used to prevent the sand from flowing. This study uses the CLO 3D program with the "moment" theme based on the Hu costume for women to deploy 4 pairs of fashion design and to produce works for 2 pairs. The 3D virtual clothing program demonstrates important effects in design deployment and pattern arrangement through its efficiency and convenience of clothing production. The CLO 3D program was closely combined with the 2D design and the 3D affect, and it heightened the efficiency in saving the processing time and energy of the sample clothes. Through facilitating the 3D digital fashion design, the production may reduce time needed and contribute to an effective economy, and it may compare digital fashion design to actual products as well as illustrate the potential of digital fashion design.
Recently, flexible displays have been used as part of fashion beyond the concept of parts for electronic products. The flexible display applied to wearable fashion products flexibly bends according to the wearing position of the human body and, at the same time, decorates the fashion product more splendidly through the screen on which images or videos are displayed. Flexible displays, which are used for clothes and accessories, combine analogue fashion sensibility with digital screens to create a new level of convergence product design and expand the range of fashion design and fashion materials. This study aims to analyze the trends of the development and commercialization of fashion products that use flexible displays. As a research method, theoretical research and empirical research through case analysis were conducted in parallel. First, as a theoretical study, the morphological and technical characteristics of flexible displays were examined. Through theoretical studies, the effect of the characteristics of flexible displays on the development of wearable fashion products was investigated. Second, as an empirical case study, the design of wearable fashion products using flexible displays over the past 10 years and the characteristics of the displays used in the products were analyzed. Based on the characteristics analyzed, the product design, display and product integration methods and the commercialization stages of wearable fashion products using flexible displays were analyzed.

This study analyzes recent trends in fashion retailing instigated by the fourth industrial revolution and approaches the trends in terms of the convergence of big data and artificial intelligence. The findings are as below. First, companies like 'Edited' and 'Stylumia' offer solutions that support the strategic decisions of fashion brands and fashion retailers by analyzing big data using artificial intelligence. Second, the convergence of big data and artificial intelligence scales personalized service on the web as examples of 'Coded Couture', 'StitchFix', and 'Thread'. Third, the insights gained from artificial intelligence and big data help create new fashion retailing platforms such as 'Botshop' and 'Lyst'. Last, artificial intelligence and big data assist with design. 'Ivyrevel' designs digital fashion, assisted by a macroscopic perspective on fashion trends, market and consumers through the analysis of big data. The Fourth Industrial Revolution brings changes across all industries that will likely accelerate. The fashion industry is also undergoing many changes with advancements in scientific technology. The convergence of big data and artificial intelligence will play a key role in the future of fast-moving industry like fashion, where fickle tastes of consumers are the main drivers.

The purpose of this study is to apply the characteristics of David Hockney's paintings to fashion illustration and thereby, review how pure art can be harmoniously grafted onto fashion commodities and thereupon, suggest a far more developed and unique fashion illustration. For the research, this study analyzed David Hockney's late painting works, after the 1980s; the analysis was focused on photo collages, multiple perspectives, the movement of the viewpoint, and lights and colors. In order to produce an artwork, the researcher selected 4 painting works; one work for decade for the period from the 1980s to the 2010s. This study selected 'shoes' as subjects for expression in an effort to depart from the convention approach of focusing on apparel and thereby, suggest some differentiated fashion illustrations. In terms of the artwork production size, four canvases #5 were combined into a set, and thus, a total of four sets were developed. The results are as follows. First, it was very interesting to develop a fashion illustration making use of David Hockney's paintings, and it was proven that the fashion illustration applying the sensitivity of the pure art would provide a unique sense of art. Secondly, as the boundary among disciplines becomes blurred, painting provides a new source of insights and motifs to the diverse design areas to satisfy diversified human needs, and furthermore, the development and diversified application of the fashion illustrations could be confirmed. Thirdly, David Hockney's differentiated world of art, technique of expression and sensitive colors could well be applied to fashion illustrations. This study proves that we fashion artists can depart from the conventional expressions focused on the apparel to expand the fashion illustration into lady's high heels.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the collaboration and artification of the Issey Miyake fashion brand and to suggest the best course of artification that can secure the brand's value. The research methods are as follows: i) identifying the companies' strategy and flow through collaboration concepts and examples from Issey Miyake; ii) selecting Issey Miyake fashion brands and carrying out a literature review through websites, articles, and books; and iii) examining prior studies on the relationship between fashion and art. Results are as follows. The exhibition is divided into spaces for brand intangible assets, artistic collaboration with partners, art co-creation, and the aesthetics and tradition of the brand. Using exhibitions to share the artistic work of collaboration partners is expected to positively affect the brand's likability. The exhibit shares art collaborations in display cases for clothes and photographs. Artists and brands appear as an extension of the creative space and convergence design area. The artist's improvisation forms the creative space that communicates with the audience, and the convergence design area is expanded through the unifying organic connection between the various media in the fashion brand. The photographers and brands section displays the nature images of Pleats Please, as well as human and prism garment images. In these images, the viewer can perceive a story in the interplay between the human body and nature.

The purpose of this study is to conduct more practical subsequent research by identifying research areas through a systematic analysis of sustainable fashion design research trends. For this study, 117 journals domestic journals published between 2010 and 2020 were selected using the keyword, 'sustainable fashion'. With the research materials, six top keywords, 'zero waste', 'sustainability', 'eco-friendly', 'upcycling', 'recycling', and 'ethical', were derived. The research status was examined by year, keyword, keyword and year, and research topic. The analysis results are as follows. First, looking into the studies by year, it was found that research on sustainable fashion increased in general. Compared to 2010, the research tripled in 2020, and it was found to have increased steadily from 2018. Second, regarding the research by keyword, eco-friendly was the most common. It can be seen that research tended to focus on recycling or eco-friendliness before, but in later material design development was heading towards upcycling. Third, concerning the research by topic, case studies were found the most before, but research on design development tended to increase recently. Based on that, it is expected that the areas of sustainable fashion design that need more research will be investigated further.
This study aims to explore the formativeness of 3D printed parametric fashion products while parametric design-based 3D printed fashion products are increasing. As a research method, theoretical review was conducted and formative properties of 3D printing parametric fashion products were derived, and cases of 3D printing parametric fashion products were collected and examined into three types of clothing, shoes, and accessories. As a result of the study, it was possible to confirm the shape with the motif of a natural object, and structurally, the economical optimal structure, assembly structure, and natural structure were confirmed. was found to use natural and achromatic colors. Through the understanding of the formativeness of 3D printing parametric fashion products presented in this study, it is expected that it will be used as basic data to understand the spread and formative flow of parametric-based fashion products.
