  • This paper discusses a far-end crosstalk (FEXT) canceller for twisted-pair transmission. Many twisted-pair systems such as fiber-to-the-curb (FTTC), very high-speed digital subscriber line (VDSL), and high-speed LAN systems, use frequency-division duplexing (FDD) for duplex transmission. It is shown that the maximum reach of FDD twisted-pair system is limited by the performance of its upstream channel, which is located at higher frequencies than the downstream channel. In order to improve the performance of such FDD transceiver, FEXT cancellation is introduced for the channel at higher frequencies. A system arrangement and its blind start-up procedure are studied when the FEXT canceller and equalizer are jointly adapted to combat channel intersymbol interference (ISI), FEXT, and other additive noise. The initial convergence and the steady-state behavior of the proposed twisted-pair system without requiring transmission of an ideal training sequence are investigated. Measured characteristics as well as analytical model of the FEXT channel are used to estimate the time span needed for the FEXT canceller. It is also shown that the memory span for the FEXT canceller is almost independent of the channel, thus making our results useful for the twisted-pair system over all different channels.

  • DSL(digital subscriber line) transceiver designers have concerned the impulsive noise as well as NEXT(near-end crosstalk) and FEXT(far-end crosstalk) immunities Down as the strongest sources that limit the DSL channel capacity. In these noise environment the analysis on the performance of DSL should be needed. Therefore, in this paper we have estimated and simulated the SNR(signal-to-noise ratio) margin of DMT(discrete multi-tone) signal in Gauss, NEXT, FEXT and impulse noise environment by modeling an Middleton's Class A impulse signal with the test Cook pulses. As a result, it is known that the transmission rate of uplink is limited by noise characteristics rather than by loop length, but that of downlink limited complexly by both of noise characteristics and loop length. In conclusion, these results will be utilized as the threshold of ADSL performance in the complex noise environment including impulse noise.

  • VDSL(Very-high-rate Digital subscriber Line) have a severe FEXT(Far-End Crosstalk). This paper proposes FEXT cancelation scheme in VDSL system. The scheme is GDFE(Generalize Decision Feedback Equalizer) and Vectored-DMT (Discrete Multitone). Feedback part of GDFE decreases FEXT noise. Canceler and Precoder block a part of Vectored-DMT eliminate FEXT. After all, simulation result show improvement of transmit and receive speed.

  • In this paper, we have evaluated BER performance of digital subscriber line(DSL) using the twisted-pair channel model by means of Semi-analytic simulation technique. As a result, it was known that the Semi-analytic simulation was proved to be a good technique because of the attenuation of 0.5dB. To keep the BER=10$\^$-7/, 4dB of E$\^$b//N$\^$0/ is needed more when the DSL length extends to 5000m, while 2dB increase of E$\^$b//N$\^$0/ is required when Nyquist frequency goes to 512kb/s with the keeping same distance. In addition, the effect by FEXT noise is serious, when the FEXT noise damping constant, k is over 10/sup-10/ in DSL length and 10$\^$-14/ in the aspect of Nyquist frequency. As the basic, results of this analysis can be used in setting in internal and external standardization of DSL system in the future.

  • A digital subscriber line(DSL) has been introduced recently in home and abroad to deliver high speed Internet access services with the large channel and the sheer number of subscribers. It has been processed to standardize the DSL in our country, but the analysis on the DSL is limited to the field trials. Therefore, in this paper we have proposed the techniques related to analysis on the performances of DSL, and estimated its S/N and BER performances. In particular, the channel capacity gained from S/N values was compared with the field trial results in Japn and it was known that the results from this study was proved to be valid. Also, the S/N performance of DSL is degraded due to only Gaussian noise, and BER performance degraded greatly with both the higher frequency and the longer distance. However, results of this analysis can be used as the basic data in specifying the standardization of DSL in the future.
