  • The frozen section technique is a means of intraoperative pathological diagnosis, and a procedure of great value to the surgeon. This method should be accurate, rapid and reliable. This method serves useful purposes, such as determining the presence of tumor, its type(especially whether it is benign or malignant), the adequacy of a biopsy of a suspected lesion, and the conditions of the surgical margins. But, it bears many disadvantages, the most of which is the danger of incorrect diagnosis. We studied the indications, the limitations, and the accuracy of the frozen section method and the materials studies was total of frozen section during recent 3 years. The overall accuracy of the frozen section diagnosis of 809 cases was 98.1% with 0.5% of false negative, 0% of false positive, 0.5% of incorrect histological diagnosis or grading errors, and 0.9% of deferred cases. The tissues submitted were lymph node, gastrointestinal tract, skin subcutaneous tissues in decreasing oder of frequency. The false positive case is not present, while the false negative cases were 4.

  • Most of Automatic Accident Detection Algorithm has a problem of detecting an accident as traffic congestion. Actually, center's managers deal with accidents depend on watching CCTV or accident report by drivers even though they run the Automatic Accident Detection system. It is because of the system's detecting errors such as detecting non-accidents as accidents, and it makes decreasing in the system's overall reliability. It means that Automatic Accident Detection Algorithm should not only have high detection probability but also have low false alarm probability, and it has to detect accurate accident spot. The study tries to verify and evaluate the effectiveness of using Gaussian Mixture Model and individual vehicle tracking to adapt Accident Detection Algorithm to Center Management System by measuring accident detection probability and false alarm probability's frequency in the real accident.

  • Although crack on concrete exists from its early formation, crack requires attention as it affects stiffness of structure and can lead demolition of structure as it grows. Detecting cracks on concrete is needed to take action prior to performance degradation of structure, and deep learning can be utilized for it. In this study, transfer learning, one of the deep learning techniques, was used to detect the crack, as the amount of crack's image data was limited. Pre-trained Inception-v3 was applied as a base model for the transfer learning. Web scrapping was utilized to fetch images of concrete wall with or without crack from web. In the recognition of crack, image post-process including changing size or removing color were applied. In the visualization of crack, source images divided into 30px, 50px or 100px size were used as input data, and different numbers of input data per category were applied for each case. With the results of visualized crack image, false positive and false negative errors were examined. Highest accuracy for the recognizing crack was achieved when the source images were adjusted into 224px size under gray-scale. In visualization, the result using 50 data per category under 100px interval size showed the smallest error. With regard to the false positive error, the best result was obtained using 400 data per category, and regarding to the false negative error, the case using 50 data per category showed the best result.

  • In this paper, we propose a cooperative channel sensing scheme in the presence of feedback errors. Accurate local sensing results may not directly be applied to cooperative sensing due to feedback errors. We consider the cooperative channel sensing that utilizes local sensing results in good feedback channel condition. Finally, simulation results show that the proposed scheme can maximize the detection probability while guaranteeing desired false alarm probability.

  • A motion-based background subtraction method without geometric computation is proposed, allowing that the camera is moving parallel to the ground plane with uniform velocity. The proposed method subtracts the background region from a given image by evaluating the difference between calculated and model Hows. This approach is insensitive to small errors of calculated optical flows. Furthermore, in order to tackle the significant errors, a strategy for incorporating a set of optical flows calculated over different frame intervals is presented. An experiment with two real image sequences, in which a static box or a moving toy car appears, to evaluate the performance in terms of accuracy under varying thresholds using a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. The ROC curves show, in the best case, the figure-ground segmentation is done at 17.8 % in false positive fraction (FPF) and 71.3% in true positive fraction (TPF) for the static-object scene and also at 14.8% in FPF and 72.4% In TPF for the moving-object scene, regardless if the calculated optical flows contain significant errors of calculation.

  • Since video is composed of unstructured data with massive storage and linear forms, it is essential to conduct various research studies to provide the required contents for users who are accustomed to dealing with standardized data such as documents and images. Previous studies have shown the occurrence of undetected and false detected shots. This thesis suggested shot verification and video retrieval system using visual rhythm to reduce these kinds of errors. First, the system suggested in this paper is designed to detect the parts easily and quickly, which are assumed as shot boundaries, just by changing the visual rhythm without playing the image. Therefore, this enables to delete the false detected shot and to generate the unidentified shot and key frame. The following are the summaries of the research results of this study. Second, during the retrieving process, a thumbnail and keyword method of inquiry is possible and the user is able to put some more priorities on one part than the other between the color and shape. As a result, the corresponding shot or scene is displayed. However, in the case of not finding the preferred shot, the key picture frame of similar shot is supplied and can be used in the further inquiry of the next scene.

  • Image authentication algorithms have to discriminate forged contents in the various critical fields of military, medical services, digital documents. They must ensure perceptual invisibility and fragility against malicious attacks. It is desirable that watermarking algorithms support sufficient insertion capacity and blind feature. And, high reliable algorithms that can eliminate false-positive and false-negative errors are needed in the watermark extraction process. In this paper, we control coefficients of high frequency band in a DCT domain and compensate brightness histogram for high reliability. As a result, we found that the proposed algorithm guarantee various requirements such as perceptual invisibility with high PSNR values, fragility, high reliability and blind feature. In addition, experiment results show that the proposed algorithm can be used steganographic applications by sufficient capacity of watermark.

  • Effective handover decision is important for providing seamless services to mobile users. In this paper, we propose an analysis framework to evaluate the performance of handover decision based on received signal strength (RSS) measurements in terms of the late notification and false alarm probability. In our framework, we consider mobility of a mobile user, signaling delays for exchanging messages related to handover protocols, cell sizes and RSS measurement interval to stabilize RSS reading due to random measurement errors. By quantitatively scrutinizing the impact of each parameter on the late notification and false alarms, we suggest the research directions for effective handover decision mechanism that may provide fast and reliable handover.

  • Generally, inaccurate reports on environmental issues occur due to various factors. The purpose of this study was to find out a way to enhance accuracy of environmental reporting. So the reporters' career and college major had been compared to the accuracy of their articles. The by-lined environmental articles in nine dailies published in 1991 were checked. Results of this study were as follows. (1) Inaccuracy rate in environmental articles was 54.2%. Inaccuracies appeared 1.7 times per an article, while the average frequency of inaccuracies in overall articles was 0.9 time. (2) Errors in the articles consist of 65.8% of subjective inaccuracies and 34.2% of subjective inaccuracies. They derive from the false usage of terminology(15.8%), misquotation(14.5%), incorrect statistics(13%), exaggeration(13%), inaccurate title(7.9%), and false comparison(5%), (3) Inaccuracy rate by the type of articles was 66.7% in columns, 60% in feature stories, 54.5% in-depth stories, 40.9% in straight news, respectively. (4) Inaccuracy rate by the specific field was shown 71.4% in environmental impacts (5) According to the result of chi-square test analysis, there were no statistically significant differences of inaccuracy rate and of subjective, and objective, and objective inaccuracies relevant to the period of reporters' career covering environmental reporting and the nature of articles, and college major.
