  • To develop weapon system, Concurrent Spare Parts(CSP) is one of the important somethings in terms of Intergrated Logistics System(ILS). CSP is very important to improve the availability of weapon system, and various research about CSP are performed. However, most of the research does not consider the effects between sub-item's failure and weapon system's multiple function. In other words, if sub-item's failure does not seriously influence weapon system's specific function, the point, not necessarily to replace sub-item, is not considered. Therefore, the method to calculate CSP based on above consideration is written by failure-function matrix in this paper. The study follows the procedure below. First, it's to define the operation and maintenance procedure of weapon system. Second, failure-function matrix is developed. Third, simulation model is desinged by input data. Finally, The quantity of CSP is calculated by simulation and evolution strategy, meta-model. This study suggests new research direction to calculate CSP.

  • A novel real-time actuator failure detection algorithm is developed in this paper. Actuator fails when the input to the structure is different from the commanded one. Previous research has shown that one error function can be formulated for each actuator through interaction matrix method. For output without noise, non-zero values in the actuator functions indicate the instant failure of the actuator regardless the working status of other actuators. In this paper, it is further demonstrated that the actuator's error function coefficients will be directly calculated from the healthy input of the examined actuator and all outputs. Hence, the need for structural information is no longer needed. This approach is termed as direct method. Experimental results from a NASA eight bay truss show the successful application of the direct method for isolating and identifying the real-time actuator failure. Further, it is shown that the developed method can be used for real-time sensor failure detection.

  • In this paper, an algorithm for obtaining 2-state switching failure function and a terminal pair reliability evaluation method in a communication network are proposed. The communication network is modeled by a graph. By using the sequence of matrix transformations for the graph, minimal cut-set matrix representing all minimal cut-sets which completely interrupt the communication path is determined and 2-state switching failure function is then obtained from the minimal cut-set matrix. The terminal pari reliability of the communication network is evaluated by corresponding the random variables to 2-state switching failure function. Illustrative examples are provided to demonstrate the algorithm. A computer program evaluating the terminal pair reliability in a complex and large network has also been developed.

  • Mechanical behaviors of uniaxially fiber-reinforced metal matrix composites under transverse loading conditions were studied at room and elevated temperatures. A mono-filament composite was selecte d as a representative analysis model with perfectly bonded fiber/matrix interface assumption. The elastic-plastic and visco-plastic models were investigated by both theoretical and numerical methods. The product of triaxiality factor and effective strain as well as stress components and strain energy was obtained as a function of location to estimate the failure sites in fiber-reinforced metal matrix composite. Results showed that fiber/ matrix interfacial debond plays a key role for local failure at the room temperature, while void creation and growth in addition to the interfacial debond are major concerns at the elevated temperature. It was also shown that there would be an optimal diameter of fiber for the strong fiber-reinforced metal matrix composite.

  • This study proposes an integrated approach that uses both a fuzzy service FMEA (failure mode and effect analysis) and HOQ (house of quality) matrix algebra in designing and improving a service system. The fuzzy service FMEA methodology applies the customer satisfaction to the fuzzy RPN model. We fuzzify only the service satisfaction that consist in two failure factors, intangible service and tangible service, to more effectively assess the customer satisfactions on service encounters. Proposed fuzzy service satisfactions with triangle membership function are defuzzified by using the Fuzzy Inference System, and these are eventually identified the ranks on the potential fail points. HOQ matrices are constructed from cause-effect relationships. It is possible for these relationship matrix to find a linear approximation solution on the engineering attributes. Thus, in order to demonstrate how the proposed methods work, practical sample of the A/S part in S Electronic Co. provides for the ranking of the engineering attributes which has been successfully implemented.

  • In this paper, we proposed the DFMEA Implementation Method for safety design of Weapon System. First, we presented the process for DFMEA. And then, the case analysis of OOO missile was performed in accordance with the process presented. After defining the system requirements of OOO missile, failure definition scoring criteria was set. In order to clarify the definition of failure, the failure was classified into safety, reliability, maintainability and others. After performing the function analysis, the relationship matrix analysis was performed to identify the failure mode according to the function without omission. After clarifying the failure classification, mode of failure, cause of failure and effect were analyzed to calculate the severity, occurrence and detection values. After the action priority was judged, the recommended action according to the failure classification was identified for the determined action priority. The results of this study can be used as a relevant basis for the design reflection and resource re-allocation of stakeholders.

  • The progressive failure following strain localization in concrete can be analyzed effectively using finite element modeling of fracture process zone of concrete with a finite element embedded discontinuity. In this study, a finite element with embedded discontinuous line is utilized for the analysis of progressive failure in concrete. The finite element with embedded discontinuity is a kind of discrete crack element, but the difficulties in discrete crack approach such as remeshing or adding new nodes along with crack growth can be avoided. Using a discontinuous shape function for this element, the displacement discontinuity is embedded within an element and its constitutive equation is modeled from the modeling of fracture process zone. The element stiffness matrix is derived and its dual mapping technique for numerical integration is employed. Then, a finite element analysis program with employed algorithms is developed and failure analysis results using developed finite element program are verified through the comparison with experimental data and other analysis results.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient CNN application method by analyzing the effect of activation function on the failure diagnosis of the inductive motor stator. Generally, the main purpose of the inductive motor stator failure diagnosis is to prevent the failure by rapidly diagnosing the minute turn short. In the application of activation function, experiments show that the Sigmoid function is 23.23% more useful in accuracy of diagnosis than the ReLu function, although it is shown that ReLu has superiority in overall fixer failure in utilizing the activation function.

  • Tensile strength and failure process of composite materials depend on the variation in fiber strength, matrix properties and fiber-matrix interfacial shear strength. A Monte-Carlo simulation considering variation in these factors has been widely used to analyze such a complicated phenomenon as a strength and simulated the failure process of unidirectional composites. In this study, a Monte Carlo simulation using 2-D and 3-D(square and hexagonal array) model was performed on unidirectional graphite/epoxy and glass/polyester composites. The results simulated by using 3-D hexagonal array model have a good agreement with the experimental data which were tensile strength and failure process of unidirectional composites.

  • The model of unit dynamic reliability of repairable k/n (G) system with unit strength degradation under repeated random shocks has been developed according to the stress-strength interference theory. The unit failure number is obtained based on the unit failure probability which can be computed from the unit dynamic reliability. Then, the transfer probability function of the repairable k/n (G) system is given by its Markov property. Once the transfer probability function has been obtained, the probability density matrix and the steady-state probabilities of the system can be retrieved. Finally, the dynamic reliability of the repairable k/n (G) system is obtained by solving the differential equations. It is illustrated that the proposed method is practicable, feasible and gives reasonable prediction which conforms to the engineering practice.
