Depending on the underground load support mechanism, anchors are classified as friction anchors, bearing plate anchors and the recently developed combined friction-bearing plate anchors which combine the characteristics of both the friction and bearing plate type anchors. Even though numerous studies have been performed on bearing plate anchors, there were only few studies performed to observe the failure surface of bearing plate anchors. Furthermore most of the soil materials used on these tests were not real sand but carbon rods. In this study, sand was placed in the soil tank and laboratory tests were performed with bearing plate anchors installed with an embedment depth (H/h) ranging from 1~6. The variation in the pullout capacity and the behaviour of soil with the embedment depth (H/h) were observed. Ground deformation analysis program was also used to analyze soil displacement, zero extension direction, maximum shear strain contours. It was determined from the analysis of the results that at ultimate pullout resistance the deformation was 5 mm and the failure surface occurred in a narrower area when compared with results of the previous researches. It was also observed that the width of the fracture surface gradually becomes wider and expands up to the surface as the deformation increases from 10 mm to 15 mm.
Over the last few decades, many researches have been conducted in order to find solution to the problem of corrosion in steel reinforced concrete. As a result, methods such as the use of stainless steel bars, epoxy coatings, and concrete additives, etc., have been tried. While effective in some situations, such remedies may still be unable to completely eliminate the problems of steel corrosion. Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) elements are appealing as reinforcement due to some material properties such as high tensile strength, low density, and noncorrosive. However, due to the generally lower modulus of elasticity of FRP in comparison with the steel and the linear behavior of FRP, certain aspects of the structural behavior of RC members reinforced with FRP may be substantially different from similar elements reinforced with steel reinforcement. This paper presents the flexural behavior of one-way concrete slabs reinforced with FRP bars. They were simply supported and tested in the laboratory under static loading conditions to investigate their crack pattern and width, deflections, strains and mode of failure. The experimental results shows that behavior of the FRP reinforced slabs was bilinearly elastic until failure. Also, the results show that the FRP overreinforced concrete beams in this study can be safe for design in terms of deformability.

Natural ground is a composite consisted of the three phases of water, air and soil paircies. Among the three components, water as a material is weU understood but soil particles are not in foundation engineering. Especially, weathered granite soil generally shows a large volumetric expansion when they freeze. And, the stability and durability of the soil have shown decreased with repetitive freezing and thawing processes. These unique charcteristics may cause various construction and management problems if the soil is used as a construction material and foundation layers. This project was initiated to investigate the soil's physical and engineering characteristics resulting from freezing and freezing-thawing processes. Research results may be used as a basic data in solving various problems related to the soil's unique characteristics. The following conclusions were obtained: The degree of decomposition of weathered granite soil in Kangwon-do was very different between the West and East sides of the divide of the Dae-Kwan Ryung. Soil particles distributed wide from very coarse to fine particles. Consistency could be predicted with a function of P200 as LL=0.8 P200+20. Permeability ranged from 10-2 to 10-4cm/sec, moisture content from 15 to 20% and maximum dry density from 1.55 to 1.73 g /cmΥ$^3$ By compaction, soil particles easily crushed, D50 of soil particles decreased and specific surface significantly increased. Shear characteristics varied wide depending on the disturbance of soil. Strain characteristics influenced the soil's dynamic behviour. Elastic failure mode was observed if strain was less than 1O-4/s and plastic failure mode was observed if strain was more than 10-2/s. The elastic wave velocity in the soil rapidly increased if dry density became larger than 1.5 g /cm$^3$ and these values were Vp=250, Vg= 150, respectively. Frost heave ratio was the highest around 0 $^{\circ}C$ and the maximum frost heave pressure was observed when deformation ratio was less than 10% which was the stability state of soil freezing. The state had no relation with frost depth. Over freezing process was observed when drainage or suction freezing process was undergone. Drainage freezing process was observed if freezing velocity was high under confined pressure and suction frost process was occurred if the velocity was low under the same confined process.

This paper focuses on the experimental study for investigating the performance for lap splice of hooked or headed reinforcement in beam with different depths. In the experiment, seven specimens, with its variables as the lap length of headed or hooked bar, the existence of stirrups, etc., was manufactured. Bending test was conducted. Lap strengths by test were compared with the theoretical model based on KCI2012. The result showed that the cracks at failure mode occurred along the axial direction to a headed bar. The initial stiffness and the stiffness after initial crack were similar for all specimens. For HS series specimens without stirrups, a 25% increase in lap length was increased 11.8~18.1% maximum strengths. For HH series specimens without stirrups, a increase in lap length did not affect the maximum strengths because of the pryout failure of headed bar. For HS series specimens, the theoretical lap strengths based on KCI2012 considering the B grade lap and the reduction factor for stirrup were evaluated. They are smaller than the test strengths and can ensure the safety in terms of strength capacity. For HH series specimens, the stirrups in the lap zone are needed to prevent the pryout behaviour of headed bar.
Jurassic granite from Pocheon area were tested to investigate the effect of microcracks on mechanical properties of the granite. Three oriented core specimens were used for uniaxial compressive tests and each core specimen are perpendicular to the axes'R'(rift plane),'c'(grain plane) and'H'(hardway plane), respectively Among vacious elastic constants, the variation of Poisson's ratio as function of the directions was examined. From the related chart between ratio of failure strength and Poisson's ratio, H-specimen shows the highest range in Poisson's ratio and Poisson's ratio decreases in the order of C-specimen and R-specimen. The curve pattern is nearly linear in stage $I\simIII$ but the slope increases abruptly in stage H-3. As shown in the related chart, diverging point of a curve is formed when ratio of failure strength is $0.92\sim0.96$ Stage IV -3 is out of elastic region. The behaviour of rock in the four fracturing stages was analyzed in term of the stress-volumetric strain me. From the stress increment-volumetric strain equations governing the behaviour of rock, characteristic material constants, a, n, Q, m and $\varepsilon_v^{mcf}$, were determined. Among these, inherent microcrack porosity$(a, 10^{-3})$ and compaction exponent(n) in the microcrack closure region(stage I ) show an order of $a^R(3.82)>a^G(3.38)>a^H(2.32)\;and\;n^R(3.69)>n^G(2.79)>n^H(1.99)4, respectively. Especially, critical volumetric microcrack strain($\varepsilon_v^{mcf}$) in the stage W is highest in the H-specimen, normal to the hardway plane. These results indicate a strong correlation between two major sets of microcracks and mechanical properties such as Poisson's ratio and material constants. Correlation of strength anisotropy with microcrack orientation can have important application in rock fracture studies.

In this study, a model experiment that simulates the behaviour of the ground composed of several compacted layer was intended to measure the loosened area in the event of a ground cavity through a LAD (Loosened area detector). It was confirmed that the size of the cone diameter was affected by the ground composed of fine grain + granulated soil layered through the model soil. In order to select the appropriate cone type, a scale effect experiment was conducted. From the test results, a micro-cone was chosen for the most suitable indoor model experiment. In the case of applying LAD in this study, the loosening condition of the ground was determined by the rapid change in penetration resistance caused by the difference in the boundary surface and relative density due to the compaction of the ground for indoor model testing. The range of loosened area occurring in the cavity was estimated through the penetration resistance characteristics on the ground, and the failure area was identified through the reduction rate of penetration resistance in the loosening area.

An experimental study was carried out to investigate the characteristics of the propagation distance of a flood wave considering the levee failure speed in a flat inundation area. The Ritter solution for one dimensional flow was considered to formulate the experimental results and a representative form with coefficients of k and m, which consider the three dimensional flow characteristics, was applied. The experiments showed that the propagation velocity of the wave front in the inundation area was influenced by the levee breach speed as well as the initial water level, which is a significant variable representing the flood wave behavior. In addition, coefficients k and m are not constants, but variables that vary with levee breach speed. An empirical formula was also suggested using the experimental results in the form of the relationships between k and m. In this study, a large-scale experiment for flood inundation was carried out to examine the behavior of flooding in the inundated area and the relationships between the levee breach speed and wave-front propagation velocity were suggested based on the experimental results. These research results are expected to be used as the baseline data to draw a flow inundation map, establish an emergency action plan, and verify the two-dimensional numerical model.
One of the most enduring concepts in the history of marketing thought relates to the classification of consumer goods. The product classification theory first proposed by Copeland(1923) has, with little modification, survived to the present day, and continues to be endorsed by the American Marketing Association and other related institutions some 80 years after it was first published. In truth, Copeland's classification is now outdated and bears little, if any, relevance to modern product advertising, retailing and consumption. In particular, it can not accommodate the fact that, in modern societies, consumer preoccupations with style, personal identity and status have meant that the social characteristics of goods, heavily promoted by brand managers who understand their markets, are key determinants of consumer choice and buyer behavior. In this respect, the author attempted to explore the reasons why product classification theory has been unresponsive to changes in market conditions over so many years and argue that its failure to embrace the many social influences on consumption and on consumer behavior is now its most serious weakness. And also, the author proposed the new categorization system of goods, based on the several existing literatures.

Jack-up drilling rigs are widely used in offshore oil and gas exploration industry. It is originally designed for use in the shallow waters less than 60m of water depth; there is growing demand for their use in deeper water depth over 150m and harsher environmental conditions. In this study, global in-place analysis of jack-up rig leg for North-sea oil well is performed through numerical analysis. Firstly, environmental conditions and seabed characteristics at the North-sea are collected and investigated measurements from survey report. Based on these data, design specifications are established and the overall basic design is performed. Dynamic characteristics of the jack-up rig for North-sea are considered in the global in-place analysis both leg and hull and the basic stability against overturning moment is also analyzed. The structural integrity of the jack-up rig leg/hull is verified through the code checks and the adequate safety margin is observed. The uncertainty in jack-up behaviour is greatly influenced by the uncertainties in the soil characteristics that determine the resistance of the foundation to the forces imposed by the jack-up structure. Among the risks above mentioned, the punch-through during pre-loading is the most frequently encountered foundation problem for jack-up rigs. The objective of this paper is to clarify the detailed structure and installation engineering matters for prove the structural safety of jack-up rigs during operation. With this intention the following items are addressed; - Characteristics of structural behavior considering soil effect against environmental loads - Modes of failure and related pre-loading procedure and parameters - Typical results of structural engineering and verification by actual measurement.

A practical procedure for the ultimate compressive strength-based safety and reliability assessment of the double skin upper deck structure is described. The external compressive stress acting on the upper deck structure which is due to the still water and wave-induced sagging moment is approximately estimated by using the existing rule of classification society. The ultimate compressive stress of double skin structure under the action of sagging moment is analyzed by using idealized structural unit method. Here an idealized plate element subjected to uniaxial load is formulated by idealizing the nonlinear behaviour of the actual element taking account of the initial imperfections in the form of initial deflection and welding residual stress. The interaction effect between the local and global failure in the structure is also taken into consideration. The accuracy of the present method is verified comparing with the present solution and the existing numerical and experimental results for unit member and welded box columns. The safety of the structure is evaluated using the concept of conventional central safety factor and the reliability assessment is made by using Cornel's MVFOSM method. The present procedure is then applied to upper deck structure of double skin product oil carrier. The influence of the initial imperfections and the yield stress of the material on the safety and reliability of the structure is investigated.
