  • There are many software reliability models that are based on the times of occurrences of errors in the debugging of software. It is shown that it is possible to do parameter inference for software reliability models based on finite failure model and non-homogeneous Poisson Processes (NHPP). For someone making a decision to market software, the conditional failure rate is an important variables. In this case, finite failure model are used in a wide variety of practical situations. Their use in characterization problems, detection of outlier, linear estimation, study of system reliability, life-testing, survival analysis, data compression and many other fields can be seen from the many study. Statistical process control (SPC) can monitor the forecasting of software failure and thereby contribute significantly to the improvement of software reliability. Control charts are widely used for software process control in the software industry. In this paper, proposed a control mechanism based on NHPP using mean value function of polynomial hazard function.

  • International standards for systems safety have been established in various areas of industry. Such standards recommend that safety design activities be carried out early on in the beginning of systems development. Hazard analysis should be done in close interaction with the conceptual design of the system. This paper focuses on how to verify whether the safety goals are met while considering system design issues. The architecture of the underlying system was first modeled using SysML, a systems modeling language, and then hazard analysis was performed based on architectural information to obtain a system failure model. Thereafter, an integrated model was developed by combining the SysML failure model and the architectural model, and then safety designs were added to prevent system failure. Finally, a simulation of the developed model was performed to see if a system functions even when some components are failing.

  • In this paper, we develop some characterization results in terms of survival entropy of the first order statistic. In addition, we generalize the cumulative entropy recently proposed by Di Crescenzo and Logobardi (2009) to a new measure of information (called the failure entropy) and study some properties of it and its dynamic version. Furthermore, power distribution is characterized based on dynamic failure entropy.

  • Rock slope had been slope failure due to geological and physical things over time. In this paper, it discusses rock slope stability analysis which was concerned about additional slope failure located near the Andong-si. Initially, achieved basic geological investigation and field test about rock slope, examine the stability of rock slope by doing limit equilibrium method and stereographic projection about 5 slopes.

  • Levee safety is being evaluated using one of the several failure causes including overtopping, infiltration and erosion or 1D hydraulic analysis considering physical characteristics of levee in practical engineering works. However, mentioned evaluation methods are not able to consider various failure causes of levee at the same time and to get reliable results where requires the accurate topographic information. This study proposed the flood hazard index which is able to consider several hazard factors involving overtopping, infiltration and erosion risk simultaneously. The index was generated from results of 2D hydraulic analysis reflecting accurate topographic information. The study areas are the confluences of the Nakdong River and two streams(Gamcheon and Hoecheon). Levee safety was evaluated using results based on 2D hydraulic analysis considering riverbed changes of before and after dredging work in the study area. This study will contribute to estimate the reliable safety evaluation of levee where may have hazards during extreme flood events.

  • In recent years slope failure due to heavy rainfalls or local downpours usually accompanied by typhoons has increasingly occurred in Korea. Also, the damages caused by slope failure have a tendency to be more disastrous than before. This study has been conducted to prepare an early warning system for slope failure by : (1) analyzing types and causes of slope failure, (2) examining the published evaluation criteria for slope stability, (3) estimating slope stability by considering the properties of slope-forming materials as well as the topographical and geological properties of slopes, and (4) determining the most important variables of affecting the stability of the slope under consideration. The data on the variations of slope conditions measured by an automatic in-situ measurement system and then transmitted to the central analysis system by using an internet. The most important variables can be back-calculated in the central system and compared with the values for the first and second management criteria. These management criteria should be modified and corrected continuously in the future by accumulated data and knowledge related to the early warning system for slope failure.

  • IEC 62278, the Railway System Safety Standard, requires for hazard analysis to prevent or control the hazard that the railway system may have. If hazard analysis is not performed sufficiently, there is a high probability that accidents will occur. For this reason, hazard analysis methods are actively studied. In this paper, we propose the hybrid hazard analysis method to combine two representative hazard analysis methods: reliability-based and system-theoretic. As the proposed method is complementary to existing ones, it covers both the hazard caused by failure of components and the hazard occurred from the unintended control between components. It applies to the development of a safety protection mechanism for multiple cruise control system that automatically control the speed of trains to avoid the collision among trains. As a result, we drive more safety requirements than the existing analysis methods and it turns out that the safety requirements protect the trains with respect to the identified hazards.

  • The selection of an evaluation response spectrum can have a significant effect on the seismic fragility evaluation of a structure. A method for modifying the seismic fragility parameters that are calculated based on the design spectrum is described in this study. The modification factor is used to modify the original fragility parameters. The HCLPF (High Confidence of Low Probability of Failure) acceleration levels of the electric system using previous design spectrum and uniform hazard spectrum (UHS) were compared. Finally, seismic risk analyses were performed according to a uniform hazard spectrum. From the results, it was concluded that based on the design spectrum, seismic risk for the electric system might be underestimated.

  • Since the school buildings are generally used as public shelters when the natural disasters such as flood and earthquake occur, it must be designed to show enough structural performance when subject to earthquake. Major failure mode of the school buildings observed in past earthquakes were shear failure of column of which length is shortened by infilled masonry blocks. In this study, the seismic risk of the reinforced concrete school building structure was evaluated by using the seismic performance evaluation methods of low-story RC structures developed in Japan and the required seismic performance index which is obtained according to the KBC2008 seismic hazard map and soil types. In this paper, the seismic performance of the school building is evaluated by considering this short-column effects, building shape and deterioration.

  • The paper considers the practical application of the FMEA(Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) method to assess the operational reliability of the LNG(Liquefied Natural Gas) transfer system, which is a potential problem for the connection between the LNG FPSO and LNG carrier. Hazard Identification (HAZID) and Hazard operability (HAZOP) are applied to identify the risks and hazards during the operation of LNG transfer system. The approach is performed for the FMEA to assess the reliability based on the detection of defects typical to LNG transfer system. FTA and FMEA associated with a probabilistic risk database to the operation scenarios are applied to assess the risk. After providing an outline of the safety assessment procedure for the operational problems of system, safety assessment example is presented, providing details on the fault tree of operational accident, safety assessment, and risk measures.
