Reliability analysis of jacket type offshore wind turbine (OWT) support structure under extreme ocean environmental loads was performed. Limit state function (LSF) of OWF support structure is defined by using structural dynamic response at mud-line. Then, the dynamic response is expressed as the static response multiplied by dynamic response factor (DRF). Probabilistic distribution of DRF is found from response time history under design significant wave load. Band limited beta distribution is used for internal friction angle of ground soil. Wind load is obtained in the form of thrust force from commercial code called GH_Bladed and then, applied to tower hub as random load. In a numerical example, the response surface method (RSM) is used to express LSF of jacket type support structure for 5MW OWF. Reliability index is found using first order reliability method (FORM).
The structural behaviors of cylindrical barns as a specific engineering structure have been considered as a complicated computing process. The structure design against the earthquake load, to protect by using the code, is an urgency avoiding unexpected damages. The situation has been subjected to the applied design method if there would be no failure across the construction procedures. The purpose of the current study is to clarify the behaviors of cylindrical reinforced concrete barns through the analytic methods across the mass and Lagrangian approaches through the whole outcomes comparison indicating that the isoparametric element obtained from the Lagrangian approach has been successfully applied in the barns earthquake analysis when the slosh effects have been discarded. The form of stress distributions is equal with $s_z$ closed distributions to one another.
Application software streaming is a virtualization technology that enables users to use applications without installation on her/his computer. With application streaming service, a client immediately starts and uses the application as if it were installed. The application can be executed while executable codes for the application may still be streamed. Since the software streaming is based on networks, its service is affected by network failures. Network failures may cause the streamed application to stop, and to make it worse, also the system may crash because executable codes for the application can't be streamed from the streaming server. Using the Pareto principle (80 vs. 20 rule), users can be served continuously with the minimum functions that are frequently used, pre-fetched and cached if we provide a more intelligent and fault-tolerant streaming technique. This paper proposes the concept and technique named Evergreen. Using the Evergreen technique, users can continue using the streamed application while a network failure occurs, although user can access only the streamed code. We also discuss the implementation of Evergreen technique in details.

This study examined the structural behaviors of foam insulated concrete sandwich panels subjected to uniform pressure. Finite element models were used to simulate the detailed shear resistance of connectors and the nonlinear behaviors of concrete, foam and rebar components. The models were then validated using data from static tests performed at the University of Missouri. Both composite and non-composite action had a significant effect on the response of the foam insulated concrete sandwich panels, indicating that the simulated shear tie resistance should indeed be incorporated in numerical analyses. The modeling approach used here conveniently simulated the structural behaviors during all loading stages (elastic, yielding, ultimate and post-failure) and was compatible with the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Code and existing design practices. The results of this study will therefore provide useful guidelines for the analysis and design of foam insulated sandwich panels under both static and dynamic loadings.
Strengthening of existing old structures has traditionally been accomplished by using conventional materials and techniques, viz., externally bonded steel plates, steel or concrete jackets, etc. Alternatively, fibre reinforced polymer composite (FRPC) products started being used to overcome problems associated with conventional materials in the mid 1950s because of their favourable engineering properties. Effectiveness of FRPC materials has been demonstrated through extensive experimental research throughout the world in the last two decades. However there is a need to use refined analytical tools to simulate response of strengthened system. In this paper, an attempt has been made to develop a numerical model of strengthened reinforced concrete (RC) beams with FRPC laminates. Material models for RC beams strengthened with FRPC laminates are described and verified through a nonlinear finite element (FE) commercial code, with the help of available experimental data. Three dimensional (3D) FE analysis has been performed by assuming perfect bonding between concrete and FRPC laminate. A parametric study has also been performed to examine effects of various parameters like fibre type, stirrup's spacing, etc. on the strengthening system. Through numerical simulation, it has been shown that it is possible to predict accurately the flexural response of RC beams strengthened with FRPC laminates by selecting an appropriate material constitutive model. Comparisons are made between the available experimental results in literature and FE analysis results obtained by the present investigators using load-deflection and load-strain plots as well as ultimate load of the strengthened beams. Furthermore, evaluation of crack patterns from FE analysis and experimental failure modes are discussed at the end.
This study was conducted to verify seismic performance of special moment frame's joints at roof-level with high-strength concrete and SD600 bars. K-RC-H was designed according to the seismic code and K-HPFRC-H had 150% of the original hoop spacing and 1.0% steel fiber volume fraction compared with K-RC-H. Both specimens had remarkable seismic performance without noticeable decrease in moment, but with very good energy dissipation before rebar failure. The U-bars in the joint sufficiently constrained rebar's action that pushed the cover upward. SD600 bars with $1.25l_{dt}$ had minimum slip in the joint. It was considered that the steel fiber contributed to improvement of the bending moment and joint shear distortion, and the result showed that it would be possible to increase the hoop spacing to 150% of the regular spacing.

The RC corbels with the ratio of shear span-to-effective depth less than 1 are commonly used to transfer loads from beams to columns. The ultimate strengths and structural behaviors of RC corbels are controlled by the shear span-to-effective depth ratio, strength of concrete, shape and quantity of the reinforcement, and geometry of corbels. In this study, a simple indeterminate strut-tie model reflecting all characteristics of the ultimate strengths and complicated structural behaviors is presented for the design of RC corbels. In addition, a load distribution ratio, defined as a magnitude of load transferred by a horizontal truss mechanism, is proposed to help structural designers perform the design of RC corbels by using the strut-tie model approaches of current design codes. The ultimate strengths of 30 RC corbels tested to failure are evaluated by using the ACI 318-05's strut-tie model code for the validity check of the proposed indeterminate strut-tie model and load distribution ratio.

In this paper, a modified sum-product algorithm to correct bit errors captured within the trapping sets, which are produced in decoding of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes, is proposed. Unlike the original sum-product algorithm, the proposed decoding method consists of two stages. Whether the main cause of decoding failure is the trapping sets or not is determined at the first stage. And the bit errors within the trapping sets are corrected at the second stage. In the modified algorithm, the set of failed check nodes and the transition patterns of hard-decision bits are exploited to search variable nodes in the trapping sets. After inverting information of the variable nodes, the sum-product algorithm is carried out to correct the bit errors. As a result of simulation, the proposed algorithm shows continuously improved error performance with increase in the signal-to-noise ratio. It is, therefore, considered that the modified sum-product algorithm significantly reduces or possibly eliminates the error floor in LDPC codes.

Current design codes regulate the minimum torsional reinforcement requirement for reinforced concrete members to prevent their brittle failure. The minimum torsional reinforcement ratio specified in the current national code and ACI318-11, however, have problems in the minimum longitudinal reinforcement ratio for torsion, the equilibrium condition in space truss model, and a marginal strength, etc. Thus, in order to overcome such shortcomings, this study presents a rational equation for minimum torsional reinforcement ratio that can provide a sufficient margin of safety in design. The minimum torsional reinforcement ratio proposed in this study was compared to the test results available in literature, and it was confirmed that it gave a proper margin of safety for all specimens studied in this paper.
In this paper, a numerical comparison of predictions by limit equilibrium analysis and finite difference analysis is presented for slope/soil-nail system. Special attention is given to the coupled analysis based on the explicit-finite-difference code, FLAC 2D. To this end, an internal routine (FISH) was developed to calculate a factor of safety for a soil nail slope according to shear strength reduction method. The case of coupled analyses was performed for soil nails in slope in which the soil nails response and slope stability are considered simultaneously. In this study, by using these methods, the failure surfaces and factors of safety were compared and analyzed in several cases, such as toe, middle and top of the slope, respectively. Furthermore, the coupled method based on shear strength reduction method was verified by the comparison with other analysis results.
