In order to study performance enhancing effects of supplementary antibiotics (avoparcin, nosiheptide and enramycin), two feeding trials were conducted. In Experiment 1, 1, 040 male Arbor Acres were reared in floor pens for 6 wk. Chicks were assigned to one of the following four treatments: Basal diet(B), B+avoparcin 10 ppm, B+nosiheptide 2.5 ppm and B+enramycin 5 ppm. Each treatment had five replications of 52 chicks each. In Experiment 2, two antibiotics (avoparcin and enramycin) were compared in $2{\times}2$ (antibiotics$\times$sex) factorial design. One thousand broiler chicks were reared in floor pens for 6 wk. Each of the 4 treatments had five replications of 50 chicks each. The results of Experiment 1 showed that antibiotic treatments (enramycin, avoparcin and nosiheptide) significantly(P <0.05) improved weight gain. Feed/gain ratio of avoparcin treatment and enramycin treatment tended to he lower than the control but they were not statistically significant. Dressing percentages were high in avoparcin and enramycin treatments compared to the control and nosiheptide treatment. The number of E. coli and Cl. perfringens in ileum and cecal contents were decreased by antibiotic treatments. Moisture contents in excreta of the birds were not significantly affected by the treatments. Leg abnormality and mortality were not significaniy different among treatments. In Experiment 2, weight gain was significantly (P<0.01) different between sexes, but not between antibiotic treatments. Significant effects of antibiotics (P<0.01), sex (P<0.01) and interaction (P<0.05) were shown in feed in take. Feed/gain ratio of avoparcin treatment was significantly (P<0.01) lower than that of enramycin treatment. leg abnormality and mortality were not significantly different among treatments but those in male broiler tended to be higher than in female broilers. It was concluded that nonsystemic antibiotics supplemented to the broiler diets suppress undesirable microorganisms and improve broiler performace in general and avoparcin was most effective in improving feed/gain ratio.
A new technique is presented to construct a predictive model of plasma etch process. This was accomplished by combining a backpropagation neural network (BPNN) and a genetic algorithm (GA). The predictive model constructed in this way is referred to as a GA-BPNN. The GA played a role of controlling training factors simultaneously. The training factors to be optimized are the hidden neuron, training tolerance, initial weight magnitude, and two gradients of bipolar sigmoid and linear functions. Each etch response was optimized separately. The proposed scheme was evaluated with a set of experimental plasma etch data. The etch process was characterized by a $2^3$ full factorial experiment. The etch responses modeled are aluminum (A1) etch rate, silica profile angle, A1 selectivity, and dc bias. Additional test data were prepared to evaluate model appropriateness. The GA-BPNN was compared to a conventional BPNN. Compared to the BPNN, the GA-BPNN demonstrated an improvement of more than 20% for all etch responses. The improvement was significant in the case of A1 etch rate.
As the weight of trucks increases, the need for concrete pavement also increases. Therefore, the addition of fly-ash may improve the properties of pavement concrete as well as recycle fly-ash. A full factorial experiment was performed using the primary variables, such as water-cement ratio, fly-ash substitution ratio, and maximum size of coarse aggregate, as a preliminary study for optimum mixture design for pavement concrete. The results of preliminary study indicates that the addition of fly-ash is the most important factor determining concrete strength, followed by the maximum size of coarse aggregate and water-cement ratio. It, also, shows the relative importance of fly-ash substitution ratio, compared to the water-cement ratio, and the interaction effects between the primary variables. Optimum mixture designs for pavement concrete incorporating fly-ash, that satisfied the target responses, were proposed in terms of fly-ash substitution ratio, water cement ratio and maximum size of coarse aggregate.
The purpose of the present study was to investigate the age-related differences in recall and to assess effects of presentation modality, encoding condition and cue modality on recall in terms of encoding specificity principles and dual-coding theory. Eighty children in each of 3grades(first, third and fifth) were presented a 30-item set of pictures or words on cars for recall in a study-test procedure. The experiment was designed as a 3(age) x 2(presentation modality:picture or word) x 2(encoding condition:random or category) x 2(cue modality:picuture or word) factorial design. Statistical analyses were with four-way ANOVA and $Scheff\acute{e}$ test. It was concluded from these results that when the stimulus was presented by pictures, encoded by category and the cues were also presented by pictures, recall increased in all ages. These results were interpreted in terms of encoding specificity principles and dual-coding theory.
The purpose of this study was to investigate developmental tendencies and age-related differences in the relationship between children's cognitive and emotional perspective-taking ability. The subjects were 4-year-old (N=60), 6-year-old (N=60) and 8-year-old (N=60) children. In each group, there were an equal number of boys and girls. Feshbach & Roe's child perspective-taking ability test was modified for this study. The test included four facial expression cards and six different stories inducing three types of emotion: happy, sad and angry. This experiment consisted of a 3 (age) by 3 (emotional stories: happy, sad and angry) factorial design. The dependent measures were two response types: emotional and cognitive perspective-taking ability. The results showed that both cognitive and emotional perspective-taking ability increased with age. Happy emotional perspective-taking ability developed earlier than sad and angry perspective-taking ability. The correlation between cognitive and emotional perspective-taking ability increased with age.
This study presents a numerical procedure to optimize the shape of dimple surface to enhance turbulent heat transfer in a rectangular channel. The response surface based optimization method is used as an optimization technique with Reynolds-averaged Wavier-Stokes analysis of fluid flow and heat transfer with shear stress transport (SST) turbulence model. The dimple depth-to-dimple print diameter ratio, channel height-to-dimple print diameter ratio, and dimple print diameter-to-pitch ratio are chosen as design variables. The objective function is defined as a linear combination of heat transfer related term and friction loss related term with a weighting factor. full factorial method is used to determine the training points as a mean of design of experiment. The optimum shape shows remarkable performance in comparison with a reference shape.
This paper is concerned with a development and evaluation of heuristics for the multi-stage sequence dependent flowshop sequencing. Eighteen heuristics, CAM1, CAM2, and etc., are proposed. The performance measure is a makespan which is to be minimized. The experiment for each algorithm is designed for a 4*3*3 factorial design with 360 observations. The experimental factors are PS(ratio of processing times to setup times), M(number of machines), N(number of jobs). The makespan of the proposed heuristics is compared with the optimal makespan obtained by the complete enumeration of schedules. This yardstick of comparison is called a relative error. The mean relative errors of the eighteen heuristics are from 2.048% to 8.717%. The computational results are analysed using SPSS. The experimental results show that the three factors are statistically significant at 5% level. The simulation for the large size problems is conducted to show having the similar computational results like the small size problems.
A flexible stretch forming process is useful for small quantity batch production because various shape changes of the flexible die can be achieved conveniently. In this study, the design variables, namely, the punch size, curvature radius and elastic pad thickness, were quantitatively evaluated to understand their influence on sheet formability using statistical methods such as the correlation and regression analyses. Forming simulations were designed and conducted by a three-way factorial design to obtain numerical values of a shape error. Linear relationships between the design variables and the shape error resulted from the Pearson correlation analysis. Subsequently, a regression analysis was also conducted between the design variables and the shape error. A regression equation was derived and used in the flexible die design stage to estimate the shape error.
The off-road tractive performance of tracked vehicles can be evaluated in terms of soil thrust, motion resistance and drawbar pull. The ability to predict accurately ground pressure distribution under track is of importance since the vehicle sinkage and motion resistance are closely related to it. While the formulation of the method for predicting ground pressure distribution follows closely in spirit the ideas outlined for the terrain with linear pressure- sinkage relation case by Garber and Wong, the analysis of various terrain stiffness is magnified by numerical implementation procedure. The effects of soil parameters on tractive forces can be introduced through the terrain-track interaction such as pressure-sinkage and shearing characteristics. It is illustrated by determining the drawber pull-slip relation and corresponding ground pressure distribution for the terrains typically chosen and by comparing the results with the conventional ones based on normal ground pressure. The factorial experiment method is finally adopted for checking the sensitivity of the values of soil parameters on the drawbar pull.
A plasma is a collection of charged particles and on average is electrically neutral. In fabricating integrated circuits, plasma etching is a key means to transfer a photoresist pattern into an underlayer material. To construct a predictive model of plasma-etching processes, a polynomial neural network (PNN) is applied. This process was characterized by a full factorial experiment, and two attributes modeled are its etch rate and DC bias. According to the number of input variables and type of polynomials to each node, the prediction performance of the PNN was optimized. The various performances of the PNN in diverse environments were compared to three types of statistical regression models and the adaptive network fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). As the demonstrated high-prediction ability in the simulation results shows, the PNN is efficient and much more accurate from the point of view of approximation and prediction abilities.
