A Case Study on Layout Improvement in Medium and Small-Sized Manufacturing Factories (중소 제조 기업의 LAYOUT 개선 사례 연구)

  • This paper deals with a case study of layout design and improvement in medium and small-sized manufacturing factories. The shop layout affects greatly the productivity of manufacturing systems and we introduce some cases in which shop layouts are changed to improve the productivity step by step. Based on case studies, we propose also some guides to improve and design the shop layout in medium and small-sized manufacturing factories.

  • This paper investigates the methodology to develop a layout of the simulator for measuring and evaluating human sensibility. Since the simulator layout is different from general building layouts in that it is organized in order to communicate systematically between facilities, laboratories to evaluate human sensibility and equipments to support experiments in simulator, two approaches based on eigenvector and cut tree are support to develop a simulator layout. Qualitative input data (relationship chart, space requirements for each laboratory and equipment) are obtained and transformed into quantitative data. The information obtained by two approaches provides several meaningful clues to generate the simulator layout. The simulator layout is presented based on the obtained information by two approaches. Extracted quantitative data by using eigenvector and cut tree are meaningful of generating the simulator layout.

A space partitioning method embedded in a simulated annealing algorithm for facility layout problems with shape constraints

  • We deal with facility layout problems with shape constraints. A simulated annealing algorithm is developed for the problems. In the algorithm, a solution is encoded as a matrix that has information about relative locations of the facilities in the floor. A block layout is constructed by partitioning the floor into a set of rectangular blocks according to the information while satisfying areas of facilities. In this paper, three methods are suggested for the partitioning procedure and they are employed in the simulated annealing algorithm. Results of computational experiments show that the proposed algorithm performs better than existing algorithms, especially for problems with tight shape constraints.

  • Facility Layout Planning is concerned with how to arrange facilities necessary for production in a given space. Its objective is often to minimize the total sum of all material flows multiplied by the distance among facilities. FLP belongs to NP complete problem; i.e., the number of possible layout solutions increases with the increase of the number of facilities. Thus, meta heuristics such as Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Simulated Annealing have been investigated to solve the FLP problems. However, one of the biggest problems which lie in the existing meta heuristics including GA is hard to find an appropriate combinations of parameters which result in optimal solutions for the specific problem. The Ant System algorithm with elitist and ranking strategies is used to solve the FLP problem as an another good alternative. Experimental results show that the AS algorithm is able to produce the same level of solution quality with less sensitive parameters selection comparing to the ones obtained by applying other existing meta heuristic algorithms.

  • The facility layout problem has the goal of locating the different facilities in a floor to achieve the greatest efficiency in producing a product or service. This problem is usually formulated as the quadratic assignment problem(QAP). However, the problem of finding optimal layout is hard and traditional approaches are not computationally feasible. In this paper, a genetic algorithm is presented for obtaining efficient layouts. To test the effectiveness of the algorithm, a set of examples is solved and the results are compared to those from other Known algorithms. The comparison indicates that the proposed method performs well for the classical test problems.

  • The high-rise building construction field in the urban area is short of working space because it is surrounded by adjacent buildings and nearby roads. The insufficient space causes problems of interference and conflicts in transporting materials and working at the site. These problems can be resolved partly through the proper selection and layout of temporary facilities. A method proposed in this paper supports a decision-maker to evaluate and select the alternatives of temporary facilities plans by establishing and analyzing processes and influence factors of them. Knowledges considered in planning temporary facilities layout are structurized and a program is implemented for a field manager. Case studies are performed to evaluate the feasibility and applicability of the proposed method.

  • Today's fierce competition and global economic recession make most of manufacturing companies in the world difficult to gain a profit. In order to survive such a environment and increase competitiveness, manufacturing companies have to continuously eliminate their wasteful factors through an efficient process analysis, improve quality of products, increase the flexibility of manufacturing processes. In this paper, we consider a case study for the Shanghai New Auto which is a subcontractor of MOBIS in China, to improve productivity by using therblig method, one of the motion analysis, to minimize the work-in-process inventories and to shorten the manufacturing cycle times. We also try to relocate the facility layout to increase the efficiency and flexibility of manufacturing processes.

Improvement Approach on the Plant Layout Based on Tabu Search (Tabu 탐색 기법을 활용한 개선적 공장 설비배치)

  • This study develops an approach to assign numbers of facilities (rectangular shape) in a given plant and compares the test results by proposed approach with those by approaches in the literature. An improvement approach is proposed to minimize material handling cost given initial layout. Like popular heuristic approaches, the developed heuristic approach employs interchange routine to improve material handling cost in current layout. Horizontal interchange and vertical interchange procedures are applied to obtain better solution. Also, it is possible to rotate facility layout when the sizes of both facilities are same. However, the proposed approach generates good solutions without shape distortion. That means the shape of facilities remains rectangle in the final solution. In addition, the improve approach can find global optimal solution from local optimal solution by applying Tabu search technique. Based on 25 test problems in the literature, we obtained better solutions than other facility layout approaches in the literature when there are many facilities.

  • Facility layout for enterprise's competitive power strengthening and construction of offensive manufacture line and direction presentation for design of production management system that is new by operation improvement according to S company. In enterprise in JIT(Just in Time) system of leading persons affecting in productions among a lot of habitat factor analyze. It is that through equipment Layout among those factors enterprise my problem improve and serves enterprise's absolute ability cultivation. Even if it is JIT production main point that affect to apply the modular production to productive system among at equipment Layout, lot size, bottleneck session etc. worker's multi-function anger, change of demand factor and productive capacity add. 'S' Through enterprise's example, I wish to establish Korean medium and small enterprises' manufacturing industry style equipment Layout model by taken place effect interpretation.
