The deterioration of the urban heat environment due to climate change and the occurrence of heat-related diseases have emerged as one of the major social problems. This has led to more research on climate change, including heat waves, but it is mainly focused on climate factors. However, the urban heat island phenomenon accelerates the summer heat wave, and the increasing trend of heat-related patients in urban areas suggests the impact of the city's environment. Thus, this study analyzed the effects of physical and social characteristics of urban areas on heat-related patients in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The analysis showed that the ratio of the total area of residential, commercial and industrial facilities, the main source of heat energy locality, among the land use statuses, was not statistically significant, but the road area and the green area were found to have a positive and negative The population density and the percentage of people aged 65 or older, the percentage of people living alone and the proportion of people receiving basic living were all shown to be significant, with only the ratio of elderly living alone and the ratio of population density having negative effects. The results of the study can be used to develop urban policy alternatives related to local warming patients.

The speed change lane is installed at the point where the roads are connected on the urban roads, reducing the relative speed to facilitate traffic communication. However, in the case of the speed limit of 30 km/h in accordance with the implementation of the safe speed "5030" in the city, the standard is ambiguous, and there are criticisms about the installation of the transmission lane. This study conducted a pilot study on the traffic patterns of the speed change lanes, focusing on the section where the safe speed "5030" policy was scheduled to be implemented after theoretical consideration of the speed change lanes. After on-site investigation, as a result of analyzing the traffic pattern according to the travel speed of the main road according to road conditions and traffic conditions, the effectiveness of the speed change lane according to the safety speed "5030" was analyzed. In this study, the installation criteria for speed change lane by speed were presented. The criteria is that "speed change lanes should not be installed when the speed limit is 30 km/h, and speed change lanes should be installed when the speed limit is 50 km/h." The criteria will be considered as a reference when establishing engineering standards for connection of other facilities in urban areas in the future. It is expected that unnecessary restrictions on individuals' exercise of private property rights will be minimized, smooth traffic flow and secure safety by the installation of speed change lanes and expansion of turning radius.

In this study we compared the cognitive function (Mini-Mental State Examination for Dementia Screening: MMSE-DS) and nutrient intake of elderly women with dementia in a long-term care facility (EW-LCF) and a day-time care facility (EW-DCF). This survey was conducted from July 2015 to May 2017 on 73 elderly women with dementia (47 women in LCF and 26 women in DCF) in the city of Incheon. The data obtained from interviews with the subjects and caregivers were analyzed using the SPSS 20.0. The total score of the MMSE-DS and intakes of most nutrients in the EW-LCF were significantly lower compared to the EW-DCF (p<0.05). The nutrient adequacy ratios (NAR) of protein, vitamin A, C, $B_6$, $B_{12}$, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, folic acid, calcium and phosphorus in the EW-LCF were significantly lower compared to the EW-DCF (p<0.05). However, the indexes of nutritional quality (INQ) of vitamin C, $B_6$, thiamine, niacin, calcium, magnesium, and iron in the EW-LCF were significantly higher compared to the EW-DCF (p<0.05). As a result, the subjects showed an unbalanced and insufficient nutrition intake status regardless of the type of care facility. Most nutrient intakes of the EW-LCF with lower cognitive function were very significantly lower compared to the EW-DCF (p<0.001). Therefore, it is necessary to assess the cognitive function and nutritional status regularly at care facilities for the elderly women suffering with dementia and to provide specialized individual nutritional management.

This study was conducted to investigate the current status and the improvement plans of the ecosystem conservation fund return projects. In 2007, there was a reformation of the ecosystem conservation fund system but the fund return projects were not vitalized up until now. In this study, 35 of ongoing and finished fund return projects were investigated on their types, sites, costs, local governments, and time required to return the fund. Through the on-site survey of 9 finished projects (4 biotope, 2 corridor and 3 natural conservation facility projects), construction and management conditions were investigated. The main findings are as follows: Among the five fund return types, 17 cases were biotope restoration projects, 4 cases were ecological corridor projects, and 1 case was a nature replacement project. In the case of project sites, there were 14 cases near schools and public facilities, 8 cases near rivers or streams, and 2 cases near ponds or wetlands. For the construction costs, there were 19 cases (65% of all the projects) that cost less than 300 million won. In terms of the involvement of the local government, most of the fund return projects were concentrated in Gyeonggi province and Ulsan city, and there were some local governments outside of these regions that did not carry out any return projects at all. Lastly, in the case of fund return time required, 35% of the fund returns were completed within 5 months, but the overall average fund return time was 9.8 months. In respond to the above study results, the improvement plans to encourage fund return projects are as follows: To diversify return types and sites, piloting and modeling projects for the representative types and sites should be preceded. To emerge from customary small-scaled projects, incentives to encourage large-scale and ecological networking projects should be considered. In addition, in order to write up business plans for the fund return projects, long-term investigations of at least 2 seasons from spring to fall are necessary. Finally, for the continuous management and maintenance of the ecological fund return sites, easier way for the citizens to actively participate in the projects should be incorporated.

The new town was assumed that there is a difference between the country's elementary school environment. First, given the important elements of the school safety plan in order to verify this, and we plan to set up each of these elements by safety criteria. In the second chapter in order to achieve the objective of this study was to develop indicators to evaluate the safety of the school environment influences the safety of the school environment through the theoretical consideration. In Chapter 3, the difference in safety through the new elementary school survey of metropolitan areas was given a score per item per item depending on the evaluation criteria. Second, school location, terrain characteristics, bike paths and pedestrian to the installation, the safety of landscape installations, installing median barriers, traffic safety facilities, speed bumps, separation of pedestrian and vehicle circulation in the front door, scores of elements of the plan such as parking scheme there is a difference between the new town. Third, the introduction of elements of the plan such as Traffic calming or Traffic Island installation techniques was found lacking.

With the recent revision of 「Act on Promotion of the Transportation Convenience of Mobility Disadvantaged Persons」 and the Enforcement Regulations of the Act, bus business operators must introduce low-floor buses when scrapping buses. On the other hand, in the case of routes where low-floor buses cannot be operated, bus business operators can be exempted from introducing low-floor buses with the approval of their transportation administrative agency according to Article 4-2 of 「Enforcement Regulation of the Act on Promotion of the Transportation Convenience of Mobility Disadvantaged Persons」. According to the data from the Korea Bus Transportation Associations Federation, approximately 5.9% of all city bus routes were surveyed as the exceptions to introducing low-floor buses. Nevertheless the proportion is expected to increase because some regions with difficulties introducing low-floor buses are not included when calculating the proportion. By confirming the process of approving exceptions for introducing low-floor buses through local governments, there was no specific examination method or standard for approval of exceptions. Hence, there is the problem that some routes are approved as exceptions to introducing low-floor buses, even though low-floor buses can be operated on those routes. Therefore, this study aims to develop a manual that can objectively diagnose the overall operation environment of low-floor buses, such as road geometry and road facilities. Future research plans to apply it to more cases and improve it for more precise application in various contexts.
Background: Recent estimates suggest that in the Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) the burden of cancer in terms of DALYs lost is amongst the highest in South East Asia. As such, increasingly cancer is becoming an important public health concern in the country. Lao PDR however has no population-based cancer registry and only one hospital-based registry. Cancer treatment within the country is extremely limited. Patients who can, may travel to neighboring countries for treatment, but little information about this is available in the country. The aim of this study was to estimate some of the otherwise largely unknown parameters of the cancer burden in Lao PDR. Materials and Methods: This is a retrospective, descriptive study based on the records of 847 Lao cancer cases treated with surgery, radiation and chemotherapy at Srinagarind Hospital, Khon Kaen University, in Thailand between 1988 and 2010. Results: The annual rate of registration of Lao cancer cases fluctuated, but showed an increasing trend. Most cancers were diagnosed by histology (65.2%), and a combination of endoscopy and radiology (15.6%). In most cases (70.2%) the stage of cancer at diagnosis could not be determined. In those whose stage could be identified, 54.0% were at the final stage (Stage IV). Among males, the commonest cancer sites were the liver (16.1%), blood (12.3%) and nasopharynx (10.6%). Those in female patients were the cervix (22.2%), breast (14.6%) and blood (8.1%). Conclusions: This study indicates that despite some fluctuations, the number of Lao cancer patients presenting at Srinagarind Hospital, Khon Kaen, gradually increased between 1988 and 2010. The unfavorable pattern of late-stage cancer diagnosis among male and female patients suggests a need for cancer control interventions and the establishment of cancer registration and treatment facilities within Lao PDR.
The concept of the effective storage ratio has been suggested to determine the size of detention pond by the previous researchers. The 11 pump - pond facilities in Dongdu-chun city were selected to analyze the critical duration for design rainfall and the storage ratio for each rainfall duration in this study It has been then found that the criteria of the maximum storage ratio is not reasonable for determining the size of detention pond because the difference of storage ratio with respect to each rainfall duration is too small. Moreover, since the size of pond compared with the pump capacity is not always big enough, the pump should be frequently operated, which may result in pump failure. Thus, the pond should be sufficiently sized to prevent the possibility of the pump failure due to frequent operation. According to the analyses for changing pump capacity, it has been found that if the function of the pond compared with the pump is concentrated, determining the size of pond based on the storage ratio is operationally feasible for even small basin. Thus, an improved procedure based on the storage ratio for determining the size of detention pond in small basin has been suggested. The results by the proposed procedure considering pump switching frequency may lead to reasonable pump operation. A simple linear programming model has been also adopted to figure out the relationship between pump capacity and pond size. It has been shown that the determination lot the size of detention pond based on conventional hydrologic flood routing in pond is feasible for only urban districts not rural areas.

The guarantee of transportation for elderly and handicapped people is increasingly necessary owing to their growing social and economic activity. In March of 2013, a partial amendment to the law for transportation of the vulnerable was made by the government, to make more convenient transport a legal requirement. The amendment describes standards for the installation of transport facilities, and its support available. However, the adjustment of low-floor bus routes is not included. Therefore, low-floor buses are operating without consideration for the handicapped. This study evaluates the current low-floor bus system user experience by considering the residential distribution of vulnerable customers and analyzing their reasons for using public transport. As a result of this work, adjustments to current bus routes are proposed. The residential distribution of vulnerable people has been assessed using the supporting materials of the urban renewal project in Busan City, and their reasons for using public transport have been collected by a survey of the target user groups. The results show that group A, which has good accessibility, was in high demand, but provided the most limited service. Whereas group C, which also has good accessibility but was in low demand, provided its service most frequently. The data show the supply and demand inconsistencies of low-floor buses, and the inefficiency of bus route allocation. Therefore, this study proposes improvements to current methods for the effective operation of low-floor buses.

The purpose of this study is to identify the effect not of therapeutic behavior but of the balance evaluation process itself on the balance ability of the elderly. For this, 36 elderly people over 65 age belonging to two elderly welfare centers in Jeonju city were divided into 3 groups of 12 each. All participants were divided into three groups, one was the daily evaluation, another was weekly, and the other group was twice at the beginning and the end of the study. And this study conducted for 4 weeks totally. The balance scale that we used one was Berg Balance Scale and for comparison within groups and between groups, Paired t-test and one-way ANOVA methods were used. The post-hoc test was used 'Scheffe test', and the significance level was α = .05. The results showed that the balance ability was significantly improved after 4 weeks in all three groups. Among all groups, the highest improvement was observed in the daily evaluation group and the lowest improvement was observed in the general evaluation group. In the comparison between the groups, it was confirmed between the daily evaluation group and the weekly evaluation group, between the daily evaluation group and the general evaluation group. These results show that the evaluation process using the balance function scale, rather than the therapeutic behavior, can affect the balance ability of the elderly. I would like to be able to utilize this basic research data that just evaluation of balance function using balance scale in the social facilities and institutions for the elderly can positively influence the improvement of the balance function and strengthen the postural controling ability necessary for the independent daily life practice.
