Effect of lower facial height and anteroposterior lip position on esthetic preference for Korean silhouette profiles

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the esthetic preference for various Korean silhouette profiles. Methods: The Korean average male and female profiles were modified by changing the lower facial height and anteroposterior lip position to produce nine types of profiles. In order to test intrarater reliability, the average profile was copied once more to be included for evaluation. A questionnaire containing 10 profiles for each sex, each of which had to be rated for preference on a numerical rating scale from 0 to 10, was administered to 30 adult orthodontic patients, 30 dental students, 30 orthodontists, and 30 dentists excluding orthodontists. The data were statistically analyzed using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), independent t-test, and one-way ANOVA. Results: The ICC of overall intrarater reliability was 0.629. For several profiles, significantly higher scores were given to male profiles than to female profiles (p < 0.05). However, no significant differences were found in the scores for all profiles among the four rater groups. Among the short profiles, a significantly higher score was given to the retruded profile, and among the vertically average and long profiles, a significantly higher score was given to the horizontally average profile (p < 0.001). Among all the profiles, significantly lower scores were given to the protruded profile (p < 0.001). Conclusions: This study revealed good overall intrarater reliability, with several types of male profiles being esthetically preferred over female profiles. Moreover, while retruded and horizontally average profiles were generally preferred, protruded profiles were not.

한국인의 연조직측모 선호경향에 대한 연구 (A Study of Esthetic Facial Profile Preference In Korean)

  • 연조직 측모는 교정치료와 진단에 있어서 중요한 부분이며, 안모 심미성에 대한 개념은 긴 역사를 가지고 변천하여 왔으며 지역이나 문화, 성별, 인종, 관습 등에 따라서 그 심미관이 상이하다. 본 연구에서는 대중들의 연조직측모 선호도를 조사하기 위하여 교정환자들의 주 연령층인 사춘기성장가속기 전의 초등학생, 사춘기 연령의 학생, 20대의 대학생들과 보호자의 주연령층인 40-50대 층을 대상으로 설문조사를 시행하였다. 설문지의 제작을 위해 기존의 심미적인 안면의 경, 연조직 형태에 관한 연구에서 얻은 연조직 평균계측치에 가까운 연조직 측모를 가진 20대 여성 한 명을 선정한 후 측모천연색 사진을 촬영하여 표준측모로 사용하였다 전체 설문지는 7 set로 이루어져 있으며, 각 set는 측모에 영향을 줄 수 있는 입술의 돌출도, 코, 이부의 높이와 Sn point를 표준측모에서 변화시킨 천연색 측모형들을 포함하고 있다. 가장 좋다고 생각되는 안모는 1점, 가장 좋지 않다고 생각되는 안모를 5점의 순서로 통계처리를 하여 각 응답자군들의 연조직측모 선호도를 알아보았으며, 성별, 연령에 따른 선호도의 차이를 조사하였다. 또한 대중들이 선호하는 안모와 선호하지 않는 안모와 하안면 측모의 심미적 평가를 위해 기존에 사용되는 기준선들간의 신뢰성을 평가하여 다음의 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 1.응답자의 신뢰도를 평가시 유년기에서 다른 group들에 비해 낮은 값을 나타내었다. 이는 유년기에서는 아직은 측모선호도에 대한 관심이 없는 것으로 평가하였다. 2. 측모 선호도의 연령, 성별 차이는 뚜렷하지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 3. 가장 선호하는 측모보다 가장 선호하지 않는 측모에 대한 선택의 일치도가 더 높았다. 4.응답자의 group별로 순위의 일치성을 나타내는 Kendall의 일치계수(W)는 20대에서 가장 높게 나타났다 이는 다른 연령에 비해 측모에 대한 선호성에 대한 기준이 명확한 것을 나타낸다. 5. 응답자들이 가장 선호하는 측모의 구순돌출도는 심미적인 안모에 대한 이전 연구에서의 Ricketts의 nose tip-Pog line(E-line), Burstone의 Sn-Pog line(B-line)에 대한 평균치에 가까운 값을 나타내었다 이는 이들 기준선들이 임상적으로 유용하게 사용할 수 있음을 의미한다. 6. 응답자들이 가장 선호하지 않는 측모는 E-line과 B-line에 대해 구순이 너무 돌출되거나 후퇴된 경우였다. 7. 응답자들의 측모 선호도는 straight, concave, convex profile순으로 나타났다.

반측성 안면경련증 환자에서 안면신경의 미세혈관감압술 후에 시행한 자기공명영상의 역할 (The Role of Postoperative Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Microvascular Decompression of the Facial Nerve in Patients with Hemifacial Spasm)

  • Objectives : The objective of this study was to investigate the role of postoperative three dimensional short-range magnetic resonance angiography(3D-TOF MRA) in predicting the clinical outcomes following microvascular decompression(MVD) for the treatment of a hemifacial spasm(HFS). Material and Method : Postoperative magnetic resonance(MR) imaging was performed on 123 patients with a HFS between March 1999 and May 2000. All patients who had postoperative MR imaging were undertaken preoperative MR imaging. Of the 123 patients, 122 patients were included in this retrospective study. The degree of the detachment of vascular contact, and change of the position of offender were determined by pre- and postoperative 3D-TOF MRA. These findings were compared with the surgical findings and clinical outcomes. Results : Of 122 patients who had successful MVD, clear decompression of offenders of the root entry zone(REZ) of facial nerve was found in 106 patients(86.9%), partial decompression in 10 patients(8.2%) and contact of offenders to the REZ of facial nerve in 6 patients(4.9%) by the postoperative 3D-TOF MRA. Our patients demonstrated that the types of offender did not influence with the degree of decompression of REZ of facial nerve and with surgical outcomes(p>0.05). Also, there was no significant relationship between the degree of decompression of the REZ of facial nerve from offenders and an improvement of symptoms(p>0.05). Futhermore, there was no significant relationship between the degree of decompression of the REZ of facial nerve from offenders and an improvement time (p>0.05). Conclusion : Our data suggests that MVD of facial nerve alone may not be sufficient to resolve the symptoms in all patients with hemifacial spasm. Therefore, another unknown factors besides vascular compression may be involved to cause symptoms in certain patients and it may be necessary to remove these factors with MVD simultaneously to obtain the resolution of symptom.

주성분 분석기반 인간과 개의 얼굴 비율 연구 (A Study on the Ratio of Human and Dog Facial Components based on Principal Component Analysis)

  • This study is a preliminary study to design a character automation system that considers the facial characteristics of mammals. The experimental data of this study was conducted on dogs (dog breeds) and humans, which were designed to be used in many contents. First, data was extracted from 100 types of dogs and 100 human data. Second, the criteria for measuring the ratio of important parts of the dog and human face were suggested. In addition, a comparative analysis of the face of a dog and a human face is conducted. Lastly, by analyzing the main component(PCA), the most characteristic elements in the faces of dogs and humans were analyzed. As a result, it was confirmed that the length of the face, the size of the eyes, the length of the glabellar, and the length of the glabellar and other parts are important. Through this study, the features of the dog's face that are different from humans are expected to contribute to the animal character automation.

  • The purpose of this study was to Inferr the attractiveness and Men's occupational Status by facial Impressions and Clothing Styles. The Study was consist of experimentals methods. The experiments developed a set of stimuli and response scales which was pro-fessional suits(C1) general clerical position suits(C2) small business suits(C3) artist at-tire(C4) student attire(C5) The impression of stimuli were measured by means of semantic-duffernential scales an open-ended questionnaire and data was processed ANOVA Duncan's multiple range tes and x2-test. Judging the effects of occupational charaoteristics the experiment was designed in the between-subject design. The subject were 30 male and female who were divided 25 experimental groups as arranging 12 subjects. The conclusions of this study are as follows. 1)Facial characteristics affect the attract iveness and occupational status. 2) Clothing styles affects the inferrence men's attractiveness and occupational status. 3) Perceives inferrence of occupational status affect more impression of the high levels positions person and artist person. 4) High quality texiles deep yellow color suits are perceived high levels positions and white knit jacket and check printed slacks are judged Artist. 5) Artistically characterized person is perceived only artist even change any types of cloth.

Affective Computing in Education: Platform Analysis and Academic Emotion Classification

  • The main purpose of this study isto explore the potential of affective computing (AC) platforms in education through two phases ofresearch: Phase I - platform analysis and Phase II - classification of academic emotions. In Phase I, the results indicate that the existing affective analysis platforms can be largely classified into four types according to the emotion detecting methods: (a) facial expression-based platforms, (b) biometric-based platforms, (c) text/verbal tone-based platforms, and (c) mixed methods platforms. In Phase II, we conducted an in-depth analysis of the emotional experience that a learner encounters in online video-based learning in order to establish the basis for a new classification system of online learner's emotions. Overall, positive emotions were shown more frequently and longer than negative emotions. We categorized positive emotions into three groups based on the facial expression data: (a) confidence; (b) excitement, enjoyment, and pleasure; and (c) aspiration, enthusiasm, and expectation. The same method was used to categorize negative emotions into four groups: (a) fear and anxiety, (b) embarrassment and shame, (c) frustration and alienation, and (d) boredom. Drawn from the results, we proposed a new classification scheme that can be used to measure and analyze how learners in online learning environments experience various positive and negative emotions with the indicators of facial expressions.

  • The focus of this study is on the diffusion and aspects of Yoenji make-up in China. The diffusion of Yoenji make-up into China was achieved by Zhuang-Kun's departure for the West of China, after Emperor Moo of Han Dynasty defeated the Huns (B.C. 121). The Yoenji make-up is basically used as a unique sign and from the result of excessive development from the facial beauty point in accordance with luxurious Court culture and opening door of culture. It can diversely express kinds, names, ways, types and patterns, places and bodily parts, the colors of materials for use, and time zones of a make-up.

얼굴표정에서 나타나는 감정표현에 대한 어린이의 반응분석 (Analysis of children's Reaction in Facial Expression of Emotion)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 열굴 표정의 감정표현에 따른 어린이의 시각적 인지반응을 연구, 분석하고 각각의 감정표현에서 나타나는 남녀어린이의 언어적 반응을 살펴봄으로써 인물표정연구의 기초자료로 활용되는데 그 의미를 두었다. 연구대상은 제시된 연구도구를 이해할 수 있는 6~8세 어린이 108명(남 55명, 여53명)으로 하였으며, 2차에 걸쳐 실시한 반응조사는 어린이의 개별면접과 자기기입식 설문지를 통한 자료수집방식을 활용하였다. 설문에 활용한 연구도구는 남녀어린이의 구체적이고 정확한 반응을 도출할 수 있는 기쁨, 슬픔, 화남, 놀람, 혐오감, 공포감 등 6가지 유형으로 구분하였다. 어린이의 시각적 인지반응결과에서 남녀어린이 모두 기쁨, 슬픔, 화남, 놀란 표정에 대한 빈도수가 높게 나타났으며, 공포감과 혐오감을 느끼는 얼굴표정에 대한 빈도수는 남녀어린이 모두 낮게 나타났다. 언어적 반응은 기쁨, 슬픔, 화남, 놀람, 혐오감, 공포감 모두 얼굴표정에서 연상되는 인상적인 부분을 찾아 대답하거나 얼굴표정의 시각적 특징을 기초로 추론하거나 탐구하는 발견적 반응이 높게 나타났으며, 놀람과 혐오감, 공포감에서 얼굴표정을 보고 연상되는 새로운 이야기를 만들어 내는 상상적 반응이 나타났다.

자폐성향과 공감-체계화능력 간의 관계 (The relationship between autistic features and empathizing-systemizing traits)

  • 본 연구에서는 대학생을 대상으로 자폐적 성향과 공감하기 및 체계화하기능력간의 관계를 알아보고자 하였다. 연구 1에서는 대학생 355명을 대상으로 자폐스펙트럼(AQ) 척도, 공감하기(EQ) 척도, 체계화하기(SQ-R) 척도를 실시하였다. 그 결과 AQ 점수는 EQ 점수, D 점수(각 개인의 공감하기 수준과 체계화하기 수준의 상대적 차이)와는 부적상관을 보였으나, SQ-R 점수와는 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았다. 이 결과는 자폐성향이 강할수록 공감하기 능력은 떨어지나, 체계화하기 능력과는 관계가 없음을 보여준다. 연구 2에서는 연구 1의 실험참가자의 AQ 점수에 근거하여 자폐적 성향이 높은 집단과 그렇지 않은 집단을 분류한 후 자폐적성향(유, 무), 얼굴제시영역(얼굴전체, 눈, 입), 정서유형(기본, 복합)에 따라 얼굴표정읽기 능력이 어떻게 달라지는지 알아보았다. 그 결과 자폐적 성향이 없는 집단에 비해 자폐적 성향이 높은 집단이, 기본정서보다는 복합정서에서 과제 정확률이 더 떨어졌고 얼굴전체 영역 눈 영역, 입 영역 순으로 과제 수행이 낮았는데, 특히 눈 조건에서 자폐적 성향이 높은 집단이 그렇지 않은 집단에 비해 정서읽기능력이 떨어지는 결과를 보였다. 본 연구의 결과는 공감능력 얼굴표정읽기능력이 자폐적 성향과 관계가 있음을 시사한다.

서비스제공자의 비언어적 커뮤니케이션이 신뢰와 전환장벽 및 재구매의도에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Nonverbal Communication on Trust, Switching Barrier and Repurchase Intention)

  • This study investigates the effect of nonverbal communication on trust, switching barrier, and repurchase intention. Sample subjects used in this study were customers of a fashion shop in Sunchon. The questionnaires were conveniently sampled from July 2010 to August 2010. Questionnaire data from 335 customers of a national brand were analyzed through a reliability analysis, factor analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study are as follows. First, nonverbal communication by the service provider was divided into 3 types, physical appearance and paralanguage, postures and proxemics, and facial expressions. Second, it was found that physical appearance and paralanguage, postures and proxemics, facial expression of nonverbal communication had a significant impact on customer trust. Third, given the relationship between nonverbal communication and switching barrier, it was represented that the postures and proxemics and facial expressions (except physical appearance and paralanguage) had a significantly positive influence on the switching barrier. Forth, physical appearance/paralanguage, postures/proxemics, and facial expressions (nonverbal communication) had a positive influence on repurchase intention. Fifth, given the relationship between trust and repurchase intention as well as switching barrier and repurchase intention, it was represented that trust and switching barrier have a significantly positive influence upon repurchase intention. According to the results of this study, the more positive nonverbal communication by the service provider then the higher the customer repurchase intention as well as trust and switching barrier. Fifth, given the relationship between trust and repurchase intention as well as switching barrier and repurchase intention, it was represented that trust and switching barrier have a significantly positive influence upon repurchase intentions.
