In a competitive media environment, Internet Protocol television (IPTV) has gained appeal because of its essential characteristics, 'Internet and Interactivity'. Our study aims to explore predictors that affect IPTV-VOD adoption within the context of competing media (i.e., existing multi-channel video programming services, such as cable television and digital broadcasting satellite services). In addition, this study examines if IPTV-VOD functions as a substitute for existing multi-channel services, such as cable television and direct broadcasting satellite services. A self-report survey through face-to-face interviews was conducted in Seoul metropolitan area and other six big cities. Our findings showed that primary factors for adopting an IPTV-VOD are: age of user, subjective importance of terrestial broadcasting services, real-time terrestrial broadcasting services, and other interactive service characteristics, such as time-shifting. Also, IPTV-VOD services were found to be a substitute for existing multi-channel video programming services.

After the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been growing interests in metaverse technology and social use of virtual reality platforms in non-face-to-face environments, but social issues and ethical concerns raised by metaverse have not been sufficiently discussed. In this paper, we discuss the social functions of the metaverse by examining the movie 'Ready Player One', and investigate the ethical problems that may arise in various implementation of metaverse. We identify the potential ethical problems that could occur in the context of metaverse including identity fragmentation, metaverse violence and crime, and mismanagement of personal information. We also propose some promising approaches to tackle these ethical problems ranging over descriptive ethics, normative ethics, and analytical (meta) ethics.

There are many Korean traditional stone structures that have resisted successfully over more than several hundred years. However, their structural behavior is not investigated in engineering context yet. It is then difficult to predict how they behave against various loadings if they face. This paper is to investigate structural performance of the stone bridge structures based on the limit theorem. Structural performance of stone bridges are explained using possible collapse mechanisms with the corresponding thrusts whose values depend on the loads and the arch geometry.

Awarding interest in international arbitration remains one of the most challenging areas for tribunals and parties given the myriad of issues that arise. This article seeks to provide an overview of how international arbitral tribunals grant delay interest. It reviews the various issues that international arbitral tribunals face concerning pre-award and post-award interest, determining the appropriate interest rate, surrounding simple or compound interest, and the complex issue of choice of law. A comparative context is provided by surveying the laws of major jurisdictions from both the common law and civil law and the regulations of leading arbitral institutions. It concludes with a review of the law, jurisprudence, and practice in Korea related to delay interest and how Korean tribunals under the KCAB Domestic and International Rules have determined delay interest in recent years.

Recently, Healthcare system has not been standardized and has been developed as an embedded system lacking interoperability. We are finally going to face such problems as having excessive load in using network caused by the uncontrolled spread of system and un-guaranteed interoperability among the heterogenous systems. We suggest the possibility that OSGi (Open Service Gateway initiative : the international standardization of service middleware) can be accepted as a solution for the above problems.

A nonlinear vibrational analysis of sandwich curved panels having multi-scale face sheets has been performed in this article based on differential quadrature method (DQM). All mechanical properties of multi-scale skins have been established in the context of three-dimensional Mori-Tanaka scheme for which the influences of glass fibers and random carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been taken into account. The governing equations for sandwich the panel have been developed based upon thin shell formulation in which geometry nonlinearities have been taken into account. Next, DQ approach has been applied to solve the governing equations for determining the relationships of frequencies with deflections for curved panels. It will be demonstrated that the relationships of frequencies with deflections are dependent on the changing of CNT weight fractions, fibers alignment, fibers volume, panel radius and skin thickness.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed everything, even education. Last year when distance learning was introduced, science teachers faced many challenges to overcome. However, teachers adapted quickly, and in this year, it became the 'new normal'. In this situation, teachers are likely to habitually repeat past practices, but the context of the second year of distance learning is changing constantly, and teachers are asked to interpret the problem occurring in a situation and to adjust their practice for solving the problem with their teacher agency. In this study, we explore the emergence of science teacher agency and factors shaping teacher agency in the second year of distance learning and we focus on teachers' agentic practice that did not follow their past practice without reflection. For this purpose, we mainly analyze the semi-constructed interview of three science teachers. In the first year of distance learning, two teachers maintained their practice, not much different to face-to-face learning. However, one teacher reflected upon herself and started to recognize and solve her problems. Reflection for her practice can support this process. Another teacher changed her practice due to external suggestions, but it evolved her practice to fit the situation better, and her experience of last year helped her to adapt to the change. The other teacher who modified her practice to persist her professional purpose last year was consistently practicing in the second year and collaboration and autonomy can support her. This study shows the teachers' dynamic change of agency and the emergence for the relational interaction between teacher and context.

This study aimed to investigate the role of student immediacy in learning-related positive affective experiences in the technology-mediated education context. In particular, perceived social presence was expected to mediate the relationship between student immediacy and positive affect. Moreover, we hypothesized the moderating role of technology readiness in the relationship between student immediacy and perceived social presence. To test this hypothesis, a survey of approximately 500 undergraduate students who have attended non-face-to-face online courses was conducted. The results revealed that social presence fully mediated the relationship between immediacy and positive affect. That is, students who scored high on the immediacy scale tended to experience a greater level of social presence during online classes; consequently, they tended to demonstrate more positive affect. As expected, technology readiness moderated the relationship between immediacy and social presence. Unlike previous studies that mainly focused on instructor immediacy, the present study contributed to immediacy literature by empirically testing the positive effect of student immediacy on learning. Furthermore, this study revealed the potential importance of communication competence and its progress in predicting student participation and satisfaction, which could have been changed since the COVID-19 pandemic.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the Korean Local Government's recognition on the educational gap among regions in the filed of adult learning including vocational education and life long-learning. The study also tried to figure out the local government's recognition and infrastructure of e-Learning which is suggested as one of the solutions on the regional gap of educational opportunities and quality. This study took 12 HRD(Human Resources Development) centers funded and operated by the Korean Local Governments except Seoul and Kyong-Gi classified by the metropolitan areas in Korea. As a result, firstly it was found that the local governments had perception on the difference and gap of educational opportunities and quality among regions in the area of adult education. Especially, the perception was relatively more serious on quality than quantity. Secondly, the result showed the large gap among regions on the area of opening educational and training programs, the quality of teachers and tutors, the effectiveness and outcomes of educational programs. Thirdly, they perceived more serious educational gap on face-to-face classes rather than e-Learning in the context of educational methodology. It also revealed that the local governments had relatively better foundations on physical systems than other infrastructures and resources such as human-ware, culture-ware and soft-ware(contents, programs etc.). It was recommended to consider these findings in developing and implementing future educational policies to solve the problem of regional gap on education.

How can the history of medicine be used to cultivate medical professionalism? This study presents education using the lives of historical figures as a method based on the teaching experience of the course "Leadership of the Healers" for first-year students at the College of Medicine of the Catholic University of Korea. Existing methods, represented by the Osler method, have several limitations: first, they limit the subject of the history of medicine to certain established doctors; second, they describe medical history as a continuum of progress; and third, they present abstract virtues without context, making it difficult to apply what has been learned to specific situations. These limitations are why the lives of historical figures have not been used actively in medical education in recent years. However, education using the lives of historical figures also has clear advantages, such as the power to vividly convey the various elements of medical professionalism. This study proposes an alternative method. The characteristics of the new method can be summarized in two ways. First, it emphasizes the specific context surrounding historical figures and the choices made in specific historical circumstances, rather than presenting abstract virtues outside of the historical context, making students ponder the reality they face and the choices they make. Second, it reveals both the hidden actors and the bright and dark areas of history by selecting diverse multi-dimensional figures.
