  • The primary objective of this study is to make a contribution to the construction of 40~60 story R/C high rise building by developing the reinforcing details which can improve the seismic performance of high-strength (f'c=700kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, fy=4000, 8000kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$) R/C beam-column joints. And the purpose of this study is to investigate experimentally the effect of load history on the total energy dissipation capacity of reinforced concrete flexural members. The reinforcing details which can make beam plastic hinging zones moved and spreaded from the column face is proposed to insure the ductile behavior of high-strength RC beam-column joints. The intermediate reinforcement which is horizontally anchored by interlinking each intermediate reinforcements is proposed and tested to examine the mechanical performance of proposed details. Main variables are the shape of the intermediate reinforcements and yield strength of rebars. From the test results, the newly proposed intermediate reinforcement details can move and spread the beam plastic hinging zone about 1.0d from the column face.

  • The model tests are conducted to assess the behavior characteristics of geogrid reinforced soil walls according to different surcharge pressures and reinforcement spacings. The models are built in the box having dimension, 100cm tall, 140cm long, and 100cm wide. The reinforcement used is geogrid(tensile strength 2.26t/m). Decomposed ganite soil(SM) is used as a backfill material. The strain gauges and LVDTs are Installed to obtain the strain in the reinforcements and the displacements of the wall face. From the results, it can be concluded that the more the reinforcement tensile strength increases, the more the wall displacements and the geogrid strains decreases. The maximum wall displacements and geogrid strains of the model walls occur due to the uniform surcharge pressure at the 0.7H from the bottom of the wall. The horizontal displacements of the wall face nonlinearly increase with the increase of surcharge pressures, and this nonlinear behavior is significantly presented for larger surcharge due to the nonlinear tensile strength-strain relationship of the reinforcements.

  • In locations where the cost of concrete is relatively high, or in situations where the weight of concrete members is to be kept to a minimum, it may be economical to use hollow R.C. members. The ductility of circular hollow R.C. columns with one layer of longitudinal and spiral reinforcement placed near the outside face of the section and the steel tube placed on the inside face of the section is investigated. Such hollow sections are confined through the wall thickness since the steel tube is placed. In this study, moment-curvature analyses are conducted with Mander's confined concrete stress-strain relationship. The variables influenced on the ultimate strain is the ratio and yield strength of confining reinforcement and the compression strength for confined concrete. From this ultimate strain - the transverse reinforcement ratio relationship, the transverse reinforcement ratio for circular hollow reinforced columns with confinement is proposed. The proposed transverse reinforcement ratio is confirmed by experimental results.

  • Although masonry buildings fell into disfavour in the 1990's because of factors such ac bricklayers' high labor costs, bad reputation of poorly constructed masonry, masonry face wall is still preferred in korea as well as in other countries for its decorative value. Recently may problems with masonry face wall with opening have been reported, including cracks, deflection, swelling and even wall collapse in old masonry buildings, that mainly induced from the corrosion of connecting materials. So, it is necessary to develop the effective and uncorrosion connector. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the structural performance of masonry face walls with opening constructed by new connectors, spiral stainless anchors and to provide basic data for the field application of this method. The specimen reinforced bed joint has maximum load and displacement any other specimens.

  • Recently, construction of soil-reinforced segmental retaining walls which used geosynthetics are being increased day by day due to its construction efficiency, economic efficiency, and its aesthetic view. The conventional reinforced earth retaining wall has the connector system to fix the reinforcement and block However, this system may cause the crack of block and the rupture of reinforcement due to the stress concentration near the face of reinforced earth retaining wall In this study, the new connector system, which is able to allow the settlement of reinforcement, was applied to analyze the effect of connector system of reinforced earth retaining wall The connection strength tests and centrifugal tests for both the conventional reinforced earth retaining wall and the settlement reinforced earth retaining wall were performed to compare the results

  • Robot navigation has seen a major improvement since the the rediscovery of the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the attention it has garnered in research circles. A notable achievement in the area was Deep Learning (DL) application in computer vision with outstanding daily life applications such as face-recognition, object detection, and more. However, robotics in general still depend on human inputs in certain areas such as localization, navigation, etc. In this paper, we propose a study case of robot navigation based on deep reinforcement technology. We look into the benefits of switching from traditional ROS-based navigation algorithms towards machine learning approaches and methods. We describe the state-of-the-art technology by introducing the concepts of Reinforcement Learning (RL), Deep Learning (DL) and DRL before before focusing on visual navigation based on DRL. The case study preludes further real life deployment in which mobile navigational agent learns to navigate unbeknownst areas.

  • Reinforcement learning, which are also studied in the field of defense, face the problem of sample efficiency, which requires a large amount of data to train. Transfer learning has been introduced to address this problem, but its effectiveness is sometimes marginal because the model does not effectively leverage prior knowledge. In this study, we propose a stochastic initial state randomization(SISR) method to enable robust knowledge transfer that promote generalized and sufficient knowledge transfer. We developed a simulation environment involving a cooperative robot transportation task. Experimental results show that successful tasks are achieved when SISR is applied, while tasks fail when SISR is not applied. We also analyzed how the amount of state information collected by the agents changes with the application of SISR.

  • Pre-reinforcement ahead of a tunnel face using long steel or FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) pipes in NATM(New Austrian Tunnelling Method), known as the RPUM(Reinforced Protective Umbrella Method) or UAM (Umbrella Arch Method), is the promising method to sustain the stability of a shallow tunnel face and reduce the ground settlements. In addition, horizontal reinforcing of the face is recently emphasized to improve the stability of the face. However, the characteristics on longitudinal arching around the face have not yet been established quantitatively with the RPUM (crown-reinforcing) and/or the face horizontal reinforcing. In this study, therefore, the behavior of cohesionless soil around the face reinforced by the reinforcing member representing the RPUM and horizontal reinforcing is investigated through two-dimensional laboratory model tests. A series of tests were carried out on various conditions by changing lengths and angles of the reinforcing members. Based on the vertical pressure around the face, the characteristics of longitudinal arching have been found for the case of the non-reinforced and the reinforced.

  • A face bolt is normally horizontally installed. However, it often deviates from the initial horizontal position. The reinforcement effect of face bolts by its installation angle is analysed in this study. For the purpose of preventing surface subsidence and horizontal displacement of face, the face bolt should be installed as horizontally as possible, and if it deviates from the initial position, more bolts should be installed. Also, the residual face bolt left behind the face due to its installation angle has little supportive effect because it its too short and radially arranged.
