현재까지의 국가 정보화 정책은 초고속 국가망, 전자정부 시스템, 유비쿼터스 기술개발 및 산업현장 적용 등 정보화 기반 구축 및 서비스 촉진 중심으로 추진되어 왔다. 유 무선 통합, 전화 인터넷 게임 음악 등 단말의 융 복합, 통신과 방송의 경계 붕괴 등 새로운 기술 환경으로 빠르게 변화 하고 있으며, 전자정부, 인프라산업 등 국가 정보화와 관련된 정책간 시너지를 극대화 하기위한 정책 방향이 필요하다. 이러한 기술 발전과 초고속 멀티미디어 서비스 제공을 가능하게 기반을 제공한 것이 2000년 이후 급속적인 광케이블망 보급 확대와 2006년 하반기부터 FTTH에 대한 투자를 활발히 진행되어 왔기 때문이다. FTTH를 기반으로 하는 다양하고 고품질의 서비스 개발 확대와 지속적인 인프라 투자 증가에 따라 향후 모든 가입자 댁내까지 효율적인 FTTH 구축을 추진하기 위해 그동안 발생되어진 문제점들과 이를 해결하기 위한 대안을 제시 하고자 한다. 특히 FTTH 구축에 따른 국사내 시스템 상면배치 문제를 비롯하여 현재까지 RN(스플리터)의 지하 맨홀 내 광접속함 설치에서 전주 광단자함으로 배치이동에 대한 장점 등 가입자 수요 요구에 탄력적으로 대처하기 위한 경제적이고 지하 맨홀 내 광접속함 설치에서 전주 광단자함으로 배치이동에 대한 장점 등 가입자 수요 요구에 탄력적으로 대처하기 위한 경제적이고 효율적인 구축방법에 대해 분석하였다. 또한, 광단자함의 2차RN 스플리터를 설치하여 가입자를 개통하는 방법에 대한 문제점과 가입자 개통시 적용하는 현장조립커넥터에 대한 사용상의 불편함, 손실증가 문제, 가입자 개통구간 고장발생시의 대처방안 문제점 등에 대해 살펴보았으며, 다양한 가입자 주거 환경에 따른 댁내 망구성에 현재 까지 발생된 문제점과 이를 해결하기 위한 방법을 제시하고자 한다.

Residential broadband networks (RBN) are quickly evolving from xDSL/Cable networks to FTTH services with lOOMbps bandwidth. With the high-speed Internet services, subscribers tend to use web, multimedia, game or file sharing applications. Therefore, performance of RBN is important to the quality of services for users. Typically, Internet service providers (ISPs) are providing their RBN performance results that are measured by subscribers with the dedicated measurement tools. However, they do not make their results public to people. In order to obtain the performance results measured by users, we have to induce a lot of subscribers, which will take a lot of cost and time. Monarch, that is used in this paper, could provide the 3rd party measurement method without the help of ISPs and subscribers. With the extensive experiments through Monarch, we have shown that 3rd party measurement results are not much different from those of user-initiated measurement. In addition, we have observed that bandwidth is around $80{\sim}90Mbps$ and RTT is less than 30ms in FTTH services provided by three major Korean ISPs.

In this paper, we deal with a new techno-economic modeling and analysis for optical access networks. In deploying the fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) architecture, network planner needs to consider the following techno-economic issues: when do we need to upgrade existing local access network to FTTH network? how much do we invest to maximize profit? In order to answer these techno-economic questions, we need to consider the impact of emerging technologies and business environment. Toward this end, we develop a new techno-economic modeling to deal with the inherent complexity of technology evolution and cost economics. In particular, the new modeling approach provides us with an techno-economic analysis of technology alternatives such as ethernet passive optical network (E-PON) and wavelength division multiplex passive optical network (WDM-PON). In this analysis, we focus on the impact of critical factors such as the cost characteristic of proposed architecture and digital subscriber line (DSL) subscriber's churn-in to FTTH service and churn-out. We develop mixed integer-programming models for finding the evolution path of local access networks to broadband network architectures.

The FTTH is known as an optimal solution to provide broadband services like IPTV and the W-PON is a good alternative to implement the FTTH. It is firstly commercialized in Korea but not widely deployed because of it's high price. In this paper, we suggest a wavelength integration method to drop the price and enhance the utilization of the W-PON. The method makes one logical channel with multiple wavelengths when the W-PON system has to accommodate a signal of which transmission rate is greater than the rate of a single wavelength. Accordingly, the system can accommodate any signal rate. We introduce a frame structure, suggest synchronization and clock recovery methods, and finally show actual applications for the Ethernet and the G-PON.

In this paper, we have analysed the channel loss characteristics of optical fiber due to the changing of radius of curvatures and the number of cable banding, and due to the connection between different modes of fiber to derive revisions of technical regulation for FTTH. The results of test show that all conditions are satisfied the criteria(allowable radius of curvatures, 30mm) with the exception of conditions of 10mm radius in single mode case and show that source of light in multi mode fiber can't be delivered to single mode fiber. henceforth, we should study more intensively on the standards of connection between cables in the different modes.

In this paper, various forms of technical methods as well as comparison analysis on constructing optical subscriber network were studied to find the most economical installation method in the future. Comparison analysis has been focused on the three popular types of optical subscriber networks in Korea, such as VDSL2, Ethernet-LAN and FTTH-R. A study is conducted on the initial installation investment per subscriber, equipment failure rate as well as power consumption per subscriber. As a results, FTTH-R network will be the most economical method in the future, but a gradual switch which undergoes a UTP-fiber hybrid method as the midway process is preferable in considering the existing installed copper UTP subscriber cables.

In this paper, we explain a various fiber to the home technology and give some important standardization status. And, passive optical networks which are WDM-PON, Ethernet PON and/or Gigabit-PON will be mainly deployed in populated subscriber area and multiple dwelling units with taking great advantage of OPEX. And finally we discuss FTTH deployment strategy with low capital cost.

This paper deals with a physical access network design problem arising from the deployment of fiber-to-the-home passive optical networks (FTTH-PON). The problem seeks to find an optimal location and capacity assignment of splitters in the network such that the total cost of fiber and splitter is minimized, while satisfying all the demand. We propose tabu search approach for finding a good feasible solution.

FTTH 가입자망 구축을 하기 위해 기존 시가지나 주택지역에 있는 통신 관로 시설을 분석한 바에 의하면 그 사용률이 약 71%에 이르고 있는 실정이며, 시설도 낙후되어 실제로 현장에서 사용하고자 하면 바로 사용할 수 없는 시설들이 상당히 존재하고 있다. 이를 위해서 본 연구에서는 FTTH을 구축하기 위한 통신기초시설의 수요를 사전에 예측하여 효율적이고 경제적인 투자방향을 모색해 보았다.
