초음속 터빈의 로터 블레이드 스윕 효과에 대한 수치적 연구 (A Numerical Study of Blade Sweep Effect in Supersonic Turbine Rotor)

  • 본 연구에서는 액체로켓엔진의 터보펌프용 초음속 터빈 로터 블레이드에 스윕 각도 ${\pm}15^{\circ}$를 적용하여 전방스윕(FSW), 후방스윕(BSW)모델의 유동형태 및 성능을 기준모델(NSW)과 비교하여 스윕 적용의 효과를 살펴보았다. 3차원 Navier-Stokes 유동해석에는 상용 코드인 FLUENT 6.3 Parallel을 사용하였다. BSW 모델은 기준 모델(NSW)에 비해 팁 간극으로 빠져나가는 누설 손실량을 줄이는데 효과가 있었고 정효율 증가에도 영향을 미쳤다.

Defect Detection in Friction Stir Welding by Online Infrared Thermography

  • Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a complex process with several mutually interdependent parameters. A slight difference from known settings may lead to imperfections in the stirred zone. These inhomogeneities affect on the mechanical properties of the FSWed joints. In order to prevent the failure of the welded joint it is necessary to detect the most critical defects non-destructive. Especially critical defects are wormhole and lack of penetration (LOP), because of the difficulty of detection. Online thermography is used process-accompanying for defect detecting. A thermographic camera with a fixed position relating to the welding tool measures the heating-up and the cool down of the welding process. Lap joints with sound weld seam surfaces are manufactured and monitored. Different methods of evaluation of heat distribution and intensity profiles are introduced. It can be demonstrated, that it is possible to detect wormhole and lack of penetration as well as surface defects by analyzing the welding and the cooling process of friction stir welding by passive online thermography measurement. Effects of these defects on mechanical properties are shown by tensile testing.

  • Friction stir welding(FSW) was developed as a new solid state welding technique by The Welding Institute (TWI). On the basis of FSW, a new processing technique, friction stir processing (FSP), has recently been developed. FSP has been applied to cast aluminum alloy to modify the microstructure to enhance mechanical characteristic. FSP is a new solid state processing technique for microstructural modification in metallic materials. FSP has been applied to aluminum alloy to modify the microstructure to enhance mechanical characteristic. In this study, we investigated optimum condition friction stir processing with the evaluation of mechanical characteristic for 5456-H116 Al alloy. The mechanical characteristics of base metal similar with in 15 mm/min, 250 RPM with full screw probe. This condition is concluded that optimum friction stir processing condition. The result of this investigation will be able to application for repair of welding part for aluminum ship.

전산 열.구조해석에 의한 알루미늄 6061 마찰교반용접 특성 연구 (A Study on Numerical Thermo-Mechanical Analysis for Aluminum 6061 Friction Stir Welding)

  • A fully coupled thermo-mechanical model is adopted to study the temperature distribution and the material deformation in friction stir welding(FSW) process. Rotational speed is most important parameters in this research. Three dimension results under different process parameters were presented. Result indicate that the maximum temperature is lower than the melting point of the welding material. The higher temperature gradient occurs in the leading side of the workpiece. The maximum temperature can be increased with increasing the tool angular velocity, rpm in the current numerical modeling. In this research ABAQUS Ver.6.7 is to analyze a fully coupled thermo-mechanical model. ALE(Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian) finite element formulation is used for the large deformation in FSW process and using the Mass scaling for the analysis time efficiency.

  • Failure phenomena in uni-axial tension test were experimentally and numerically investigated for AA6111-T4, AA5083-H18 and DP-Steel, which were friction-stir welded with the same and different thicknesses. Forming limit diagram(FLD) was measured using hemispherical dome stretching tests for base materials and also predicted by Hill's bifurcation and M-K theories for welded areas. Finite element simulations well predicted hardening behaviors, failure locations as well as failure patterns for the uni-axial tension tests especially utilizing very fine meshes and FLD along with stress softening.

  • 알루미늄합금 철도차량의 차제를 조립하기 위하여 적용하는 용접방식으로는 가스 메탈 아크용접과 가스 텅스텐 아크용접이 주로 적용되고 있다. 그러나 알루미늄합금은 강재에 비해 용접성이 불리하며, 용접결함을 제어하기 위하여 보다 엄격한 용접조건과 용접설비의 작업환경이 요구된다. 따라서 선진국을 중심으로 비 용융 고상접합 방식인 마찰교반용접(FSW)이 널리 상용화 되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 대형 중공형 알루미늄합금 차량에 적용되는 압출재 A6005 소재의 마찰교반용접 시 용접변수에 따른 용접부의 기계적 특성을 평가하고, 적용 공구에 대한 최적의 용접조건을 파악하고자 하였다.

  • Since its invention at TWI in 1991, Friction Stir Welding (FSW) has become a major joining process in the aerospace, railway and ship building industries especially in the fabrication of aluminium alloys. In an attempt to optimize the friction stir welding process of Al alloys for extrusion Aluminium carbody of HEMU-400X (Extrusion Aluminum 6xxx series), effects of joining parameters such as tool rotating speed, plunging depth and dwelling time on the weld joints properties were evaluated. Experimental tests were carried out for butt joined Al plates. A wide range of joining conditions could be applied to join Al alloys for Extrusion Aluminum 6xxx series without defects in the weld zone except for certain welding conditions with an insufficient heat input. The microstructures of welds have dynamic-recrystallized grain similar to stir zone in FSW weld. For sound joints without defects, at the rotation speed of 700 rpm with different welding speeds, the tensile strengths of the Stir Zone(SZ) were almost the same, 80% of those of the base metal. Influence of the Welding Speeds and Changing the Tool Pin Profiles on the Friction Stir Welded AA5083-O Joints

  • In the present study, AA 5083-O plates are joined by friction stir welding technique. A universal milling machine was used to perform the welding process of the work-pieces which were fixed on the proper position by a vice. The joints were friction stir welded by two tools with different pin profiles; cylindrical threaded pin and tapered smooth one at different rotational speed values; 400 rpm and 630 rpm, and different welding speed values; 100 mm/min and 160 mm/min. During FSW of each joint, the temperature was measured by infra-red thermal image camera. The welded joints were inspected by visually as well as by the macro- and microstructure evolutions. Furthermore, the joints were tested for measuring the hardness and the tensile strength to study the effect of changing the FSW parameters on the mechanical properties. The results show that increasing the rotational speed results in increasing the peak temperature, while increasing the welding speed results in decreasing the peak temperature for the same tool pin profile. Defect free welds were obtained at lower rotational speed by the threaded tool profile. Moreover, the threaded tool pin profile gives superior mechanical properties at lower rotational speed.

마찰교반접합된 니켈기 초합금의 기계적 특성 (Mechanical Properties of Friction Stir Welded Ni-Base Superalloy)

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the microstructures and mechanical properties of a friction stir welded Ni based alloy. Inconel 600 (single phase type) alloy was selected as an experimental material. For this material, friction stir welding (FSW) was performed at a constant tool rotation speed of 400 rpm and a welding speed of 150~200 mm/min by a FSW machine, and argon shielding gas was utilized to prevent surface oxidation of the weld material. At all conditions, sound friction stir welds without any weld defects were obtained. The electron back-scattered diffraction (EBSD) method was used to analyze the grain boundary character distributions (GBCDs) of the welds. As a result, dynamic recrystallization was observed at all conditions. In addition, grain refinement was achieved in the stir zone, gradually accelerating from 19 ${\mu}m$ in average grain size of the base material to 5.5 ${\mu}m$ (150 mm/min) and 4.1 ${\mu}m$ (200 mm/min) in the stir zone with increasing welding speed. Grain refinement also led to enhancement of the mechanical properties: the 200 mm/min friction stir welded zone showed 25% higher microhardness and 15% higher tensile strength relative to the base material.
