FMVSS 강도테스트에 다른 자동차 시트프레임의 유한요소해석 (The Finite Element Analysis of Car Seat Frame According to The FMVSS Strength Test)

  • This study presents the structural analysis of car a seat frame by the finite element method. The load-deformation characteristics of seat frame are simulated according to the test requirements by FMVSS. Three dimensional modeling technique is applied to the components of the seat frame. The shell, solid , gap and rigid elements are employed to model the car seat frame assembly. Numerical results show that the recliner and kunckle plate are identified as the possible weak part of frame, and the results are well consistent with the experimental static load test. The current analysis model can provide useful informations to design a new car seat and can reduce the overall design cost and time.

승객보호용 랩을 적용한 저위험성 조수석 에어백의 미국 연방 자동차안전 기준법규에 의거한 시험과 평가 (Test and Evaluation based on Standard Regulation of USA Federal Automotive Safety of Assistant Driver's Seat Airbag at Low Risk Deployment Passenger Airbag using Passenger Protection Wrap)

  • The airbag is a widely accepted device for occupant protection in the automotive industry. As the injuries induced by airbag deployment have become a critical issue, revisions to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 208 were required to create advanced airbags that can protect occupants of varying statures. In this paper, we developed a new low-risk deployment passenger airbag by adding the Passenger Protection Wrap (PPW). The PPW reduces the cushion impact force to the occupant in order to ensure pressure dispersion. A series of tests were conducted by using FMVSS 208 test procedures to demonstrate the proposed system. It was found that the system not only satisfied the injury criteria of FMVSS 208 but was also effective for protecting passengers of all sizes (male, small female, 3-year-old, 6-year-old).

북미 법규 강화를 고려한 국내 자동차의 천정강도 시험특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Characteristics of Domestic Vehicle on the Roof Crush Test Considering the Enhanced Safety Standard, FMVSS 216)

  • In order to reduce the risk of roll over crash, one of the greatest risk events, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA) issued Notice of Proposed Rulemaking(NPRM) enhancing the safety standard on roof crush resistance, FMVSS No. 216 and changing some part of the test procedure. According to this NPRM, the boundary Gross Vehicle Weight Rating(GVWR) of the vehicles applied by this standard is extended from 2,722kg(6000 lb) to 4,536 kg(10000 lb) and the applied test force is increased from 1.5 times to 2.5 times of Unloaded Vehicle Weight (UVW). Also the current limit on the amount of roof crush, 127mm(5 inch), is replaced with a new requirement of maintaining enough headroom without touching the head of a seated 50% male dummy. In this paper, we carried out the rollover crash test on some domestic cars and investigated their safety due to the KMVSS No. 92 and the enhanced safety standard, FMVSS No. 216, respectively. The result shows that most of them can satisfy the new standards but further tests will be necessary, especially for heavier cars.

  • This study develops a seat with electric motor technology for a one-ton grade commercial vehicle. While applying electric motor technology, the FMVSS 210 seat frame strength test is also conducted to examine the product's weak parts. The seat frame strength test used the FMVSS 210 test standard and the ANSYS program was used to simulate the test and identify weak parts in the deformation and strain values. The test results showed that the cushion frame and slide rail connection bracket were fractured at loads of about 10,000 N. Similarly, the maximum stress and strain values in the bracket were obtained in the simulation results. On this basis, it was evaluated that the connection part bracket was a considerably weak part in the case of the first model, and changing the shape of the bracket and reinforcing the strength were required. In addition, the seat belt anchorage test results and simulation results were compared to assure their validity. In the comparison results, the error for each is about 5-10%. Therefore, the simulation performed in this study is considered to have produced reasonably accurate results.

  • Automobile airbag deployment process has been studied with MADYMO software. Based on the FMVSS208 and USNCAP(United States New Car Assessment Program) regulations, four parameters were chosen for the design improvement with reference to the 5th percentile female passenger dummy: time to fire, vent hole size, tether length and tank test pressure of inflator. Sensitivity analyses based on orthogonal arrays show that enhanced protection of small females can be achieved with improved USNCAP rating within the boundary of FMVSS 208.

홀센서를 이용한 파워 윈도우용 안티핀치 시스템 (Anti-Pinch System for Power Window by Using Hall Sensor)

  • Recently the power window system is widely used in automobiles to increase convenience of passengers and drivers. However some accidents or injuries have been caused by malfunction or misusage of the system. Therefore safety regulations of the system to cope up with these accidents have been strengthened gradually in many countries. Especially in America, since 2005, all vehicles which had power window system should be contented with FMVSS 118-S5 regulations. We suggest very low-cost anti-pinch window control system satisfying the regulation in this paper. Hall sensors are used and installed around a motor rotor with ring magnet to detect motor speed for anti-pinch. The optimum number of hall sensor and location angel of them are mainly investigated to get sufficient speed resolution for anti-pinch. Through some experiments, the validity of the suggested system was verified to satisfy the regulation.

  • The severe frontal crash tests are NCAP with belted occupant at 35mph and FMVSS 208 with unbelted occupant at 25mph, This paper describes the design process of occupant protection systems, airbag and seat belt, under the two tests. In this study, NCAP simulations are performed by Monte Carlo search method and cluster analysis. The Monte Carlo search method is a global optimization technique and requires execution of a series of deterministic analyses, The procedure is as follows. 1) Define the region of interest 2) Perform Monte Carlo simulation with uniform distribution 3) Transform output to obtain points grouped around the local minima 4) Perform cluster analysis to obtain groups that are close to each other 5) Define the several feasible design ranges. The several feasible designs are acquired and checked under FMVSS 208 simulation with unbelted occupant at 25mph.

전류 정보 기반의 파워 윈도우용 안티핀치 시스템 (Anti-Pinch System for Power Window Based on Current Information)

  • 안티핀치 시스템은 파워 윈도우 상승 시에 인체의 특정 부위가 창문 틈 사이에 끼여 발생하는 치명적인 사고를 방지하기 위한 안전 시스템이다. 이러한 안티핀치 시스템은 물체의 끼임을 검출하는 센서 방식에 따라 접촉식과 비접촉식 두 가지로 크게 구분된다. 본 논문에서는 접촉식의 한 방법으로 전류 정보에 의해 강화된 미국의 안전 규정 FMVSS 118-S5를 만족하는 안티핀치 시스템을 제안한다. 안티핀치 시스템에 사용된 전류 정보는 추가적인 장치의 부착 없이도 기존의 파워 윈도우용 모터 드라이브에 내장된 과전류 검출용 전류 센서를 이용하여 쉽게 얻을 수 있다. 또한 전류 정보는 물체의 끼임을 신속히 검출, 반영함으로써 안티핀치 시스템에 요구되는 반전력 저감에 기여한다. 특히, 본 논문에서는 전류의 임계값이 모터 경년 변화나 운전 조건에 따라 변동하는 문제점을 개선하기 위해 핀치 상태를 효과적으로 판정할 수 있는 자동 임계값 설정 방법을 제안한다. 마지막으로 다양한 실험 및 시험을 통해 제안된 안티핀치 시스템이 FMVSS 118-S5를 만족함을 보인다.

FMVSS 226 Ejection Mitigation Impact Test의 시험품 단순화에 따른 인자들의 상관 관계에 대한 연구 (Study on Ejection Mitigation Impact Test about correlation between Vehicle and B.I.W(Body In White) Condition)

  • FMVSS226 Ejection Mitigation Impact Test is usually performed by real vehicle. But it is necessary to perform the test using by Reinforced B.I.W. with considering vehicle developing timing and roof rail airbag (RRAB) supplier capacity. We sometimes need tendency (quick data) instead of slow accurate data to fix RRAB design as proper timing. Test with Reinforced B.I.W. is helpful saving time and cost. But it should be confirmed how much different between vehicle conditioned test result and Reinforced B.I.W. conditioned test result. There are some points to be improved even in the test with vehicle. Understanding of deviation of Reinforced B.I.W. conditioned test result from vehicle conditioned test result is needed to get benefits with using Reinforced B.I.W. conditioned in the test.

전류정보 기반의 파워 윈도우용 안티핀치 시스템의 전류 임계값 자동 설정 및 성능 분석 (Performance Analysis and Automatic Configuration of Threshold on Anti-Pinch System Based on Current Information for Power Windows)

  • This paper deals with anti-pinch system based on current information which prevents some risks for trapping, squeezing or injury to people in smart window on vehicles. Automatic configuration of current threshold is suggested to recognize pinch states in the current based anti-pinch system. Also, some factors affecting to the squeezing force were analyzed by some experimental results and simulations. The validity of the suggested system was verified to satisfy the strengthened American safety regulation, FMVSS 118-S5, through some experimental results.
