  • 최근 무선통신의 활성화에 따라, V/UHF(very/ultra high Frequency) 대역에서 한정된 주파수를 효율적으로 이용하기 위한 방법의 하나로서, 점차 점유 주파수 대역의 폭을 축소하여 보다 많은 이용자를 수용하도록 무선 채널의 협대역화가 추진되고 있다. 본 고에서는 먼저 V/UHF 대역 무선 통신에서 채널의 협대역화에 관련된 기술 중에서 현재까지 사용되고 있는 FM(frequency modulation), AM(amplitude modulation) 변조 방식의 장,단점을 살펴본후, 새로운 LM(linear modulation) 변조 방식에 대한 기술적 배경 및 특성을 알아보았다. LM은 SSR(single side band)-AM이 발전한 것으로서, TTIB(transparent tone-in-band), CLT(Cartesian loop transmitter), FFSR(feed-forward signal regeneration), DSP(digital signal processing)등 4가지의 기술이 결합하여 만들어진 것이다. LM 방식에 사용된 4가지 기술을 소개하고, 기존의 변조 방식에 비해 개선된 사항에 대해 서술한다.

  • In this paper, an agile programmable chirp spread spectrum generator for wideband frequency-jamming applications from 20 MHz to 3 GHz is proposed. A frequency-mixing architecture using two voltage-controlled oscillators is used to achieve a wideband operating frequency range, and the direct digital synthesizer (DDS)-based chirping method with a two-point modulation technique is employed to provide a programmable and consistent chirp bandwidth. The proposed signal generator provides the various programmable FM signals from 20 MHz to 3 GHz with a modulation bandwidth from 0 to 400 MHz. The prototype successfully demonstrates arbitrary sequential jamming operation with a fast band-to-band hopping time of < 10 ${\mu}sec$.

Development of a Microwave Level Meter Using YIG-VCO for Industrial Process (YIG-VCO를 사용한 산업용 마이크로파 거리계의 개발)

  • In this paper, we have designed a microwave level meter based on the FM-CW radar theory using a YIG-tuned oscillator (YTO). YTO has an excellent frequency linearity, so a linearizer circuit is not necessary for the level meter. It is shown that interference signals reflected from nearby obstacles can be removed by using a digital band-pass filter. An FIR band-pass filter is designed using the Kaiser window. The distance measurement has been performed in the outdoor test field. The measurement data have been obtained for the range of 1~40m with 1m step, and the results show that the standard deviation of the measured data is 2.33 cm. The level meter manufactured in this study can be applied usefully in the industrial facilities which are not accessible easily, for example, to measure the level of molten metal in the iron and steel company.

  • By analyzing the voice communication performance of the existing tactical FM radios, the performance target of the newly developing TICN combat network radio system VHF band tactical voice communication waveform was derived. In addition, a vocoder and modulation method that can satisfy the performance target and additional requirements are presented, and the expected voice communication quality is analyzed.

  • In this paper an exciter which performs modulation and amplification is composed of high power(30dBm) VCO(Voltage Controlled Oscillator) using push-pull circuit. Modulation is FSK using PLL(Phase Locked Loop). A single loop PLL synthesizer having sequency range of 42.5-100.5MHz, 25KHz channel spacing and switching time of 1msec converts down the exciter VCO frequency to 1.25MHz. This signal mixed with the FSK modulated signal coming in the phase detector of exciter. The acquisition time of exciter for frequency hoppng is less than 200usec, so the total acquisition time for transmission is less that 1.5msec. There is no need of additional power amplification because power amlifiction by high power VCO is high enough to communicate within near distance. The proposed frequency synthesizer is not complex so it is suitable for low cost slow frequency hopping spread spectrum communication.

  • The conventional RZ-SSB demodulator consists of a limiter, FM demodulator and a linearizer. Since the conventional linearizer which cancels the high-order distortions must include Hilbert transformer, the performance of the demodulator are determined by the Hilbert transformer which is very complicated to realize in aeronautical telecommunication. This paper describes a method of designing RZ-SSB demodulator without Hilbert transformer. Since avionics systems are able to eliminate the inherent disadvantages in RZ-SSB, the results of this paper suggest that the RZ-SSB demodulator without Hilbert transformer is suitable for aeronautical telecommunication transceiver systems used in HF band.

  • In this paper as a follow-up to Paper I, the required fade margin derived in Paper I to preserve the same service quality has been examined by analyzing system and propagation characteristics as well as measured data. The comparison of the fade margin between simulated and measured results is also performed for the actual operating line-of-sight(LOS) and non-LOS links, and practical usefulness as an analysis tool is revealed by checking service quality of M/W system relevant to frequency reallocation. According to simulated and measured results, there was a little difference for LOS link between Mt. Moodung and Mt. Mangun, but a fairly good agreement was reached for non-LOS link between Andong KBS and transmitter site.

  • A real-time, Indoor navigation systems utilize ultra-wide band (UWB), radio-frequency identification (RFID) and received signal strength (RSS) techniques that encompass WiFi, FM, mobile communications, and other similar technologies. These systems typically require surplus infrastructure for their implementation, which results in significantly increased costs and complexity. Therefore, as a solution to reduce the level of cost and complexity, an inertial measurement unit (IMU) and quick response (QR) codes are utilized in this paper to facilitate navigation with the assistance of a smartphone. The QR code helps to compensate for errors caused by the pedestrian dead reckoning (PDR) algorithm, thereby providing more accurate localization. The proposed algorithm having IMU in conjunction with QR code shows an accuracy of 0.64 m which is higher than existing indoor navigation techniques.

  • Photoxynthetic properties of polyvinylalcohol (PVA)-immobilized chloroplast especially regarded to stability of photosynthetic electron transport and the fluorescence induction pattern were studied. When isolated spinach chloroplasts were immobilized with PVA, it showed good preservation of photosynthetic electron transport activity, especially PS II activity, during storage at -15$^{\circ}C$, 4$^{\circ}C$ and 2$0^{\circ}C$. And immobilized chloroplasts revealed similar thermostability of whole chain electron transport to free chloroplsts. And the absorption peak of red band of chloroplasts showed the blue-shift of 2-4 nm after immobilization. Fv/Fm ratio of chlorophyll fluorescence slightly decreased after immobilization. White light pulse after continuous light do not induced the additional fluorescence rise. This means chlorophyll fluorescence at room temperature reached to Fmax under continuous light in the immobilized chloroplasts. It seems that PVA may be a good candidate for immobilization matrix for the preservation of photosynthetic function of thylakoids and for the continuous use of chloroplast membranes of higher plants for solar energy storage and conversion.

The Microwave Absorbing Characteristics of Ferrite-Iron-Rubber Composites. (Ferrite-Iron-Rubber 복합체의 전파흡수특성)

  • Wide-band absorbency and small layer thickness are required in the high- performance microwave absorber. In order to reduce the thickness of the absorber, ferrite-iron-rubber composites were proposed and its properties were investigated. The increase in both real part of perrreability and permittivity of the composites were observed with addition of -Fe powder and this behavior results in the decrease of fm dm term. The matching thicknesses of ferrite-iron-ruber composites were relatively small(0.5~2.0 mm) in the frequency range of 3~17 GHz as comIBfed to than that of ferrite-rubbr composit.
