  • Thermal brake judder caused by the high friction heat of the brake disk. Hot thermal judder makes serious problems such as to be unstability to drivers or to decrease braking force of automobile. Because thermal judder vibration makes high vibration occurrence and thermal deformation of brake disk. Therefore it Is necessary to reduce or eleminate thermal Judder phenomenon by understanding and investigation. This paper introduces the thermal deformation arising from friction heat generation in braking and proposes the FEM analysis to predict the distribution of temperature and thermal deformation. the results of the FEM analysis show the deformed shape and temperature distribution of the disk brake. The optimization is performed to minimize the thermal judder of ventilated disc brake that is induced by the thermal deformation of the disk brake.

  • This paper has studied thermal characteristics of machine tool to develope high speed spindle and optimum design condidering the thermal deformation. Comparing the test data of temperature measurement and structural analysis data using FEM, we verifiedthe test validity and predicted thermal deformation, influence of spindle generation of heat, and established cooling system to prevent the thermal deformation. 1) The temperature rise of spindle system depends on increasing number of rotation and shows sudden doubling increment of number of rotation over 7,000rpm. 2) Oil jacket cooling can be effective cooling method below 8,000rpm but, over 8,000rpm, it shows the decrement of cooling effect. 3) Comparing FEM analysis results and revolution test results, we can confirmn approximate temperature change consequently, it is possible to simulate temperature rise and thermal distribution on the inside of spindle system. 4) We can confirm that simulated approach by FEM analysis can be effective method in thermal-appropriate design..

  • This paper reports the development of an analysis method in a synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) using the finite element method (FEM) coupled with the electromagnetic field of the Preisach model, which represents an additional thermal source due to hysteresis loss and a thermal field. This study focused on thermal analysis relative to hysteresis and copper losses in a SynRM.

  • The present study was an attempt for systematic data conversion between FDM and FEM in order to evaluate the thermal stress distribution during quenching process. It has been generally recognized that FDM is efficient in flow and temperature analysis and FEM in that of stress. But it induced difficulty and tedious work in analysis that one uses both FDM and FEM to take their advantages because of the discrepancy of nodes between analysis tools. So we proposed field data conversion procedure from FDM to FEM in 3-dimensional space, then applied this procedure to analysis of quenching process. The simulation procedure calculates the distributions of temperature and microstructure using FDM and microstructure evolution equations of diffusion and diffusionless transformation. FEM was used for predicting the distributions of thermal stress. The present numerical code includes coupled temperaturephase transformation kinetics and temperature-microstructure dependent material properties. Calculated results were compared with previous experimental data to verify the method, which showed good agreements.

  • The three-phase canned induction motor, which consists of a stator and rotor with a seal can, is used for the main coolant pump (MCP) of the System-integrated Modular Advanced Reactor (SMART). The thermal characteristics of the can must be estimated exactly, since the eddy current loss of the can is a dominant parameter in design. Besides the insulation of the motor winding is compared of Teflon, glass fiber, and air, so it is not an easy task to analyze. A FEM thermal analysis was per-formed by using the thermal properties of complex insulation which were obtained by comparing the results of finite element thermal analysis and those of the experiment. As a result, it is shown that the characteristics of prototype canned induction motor have a good agreement with the results of FEM.

  • Thermal simulation of typical stack-type and newly proposed planar-type micro-gas sensors were studied by FEM method. the thermal analysis for the proposed planar structure including temperature distribution over the sensing layer and power consumption of the heater were carried using finite element method by computer simulation and well compared with those of typical stack-type micro-gas sensor. The thermal properties of the microsensor from thermal simulation were compared with those of an actual device to investigate the acceptability of the computer simulation.

  • The life of transformer is significantly dependent on the thermal behavior in windings. To analyse winding temperature rise, many transformer designer have calculated temperature distribution and hot spot point by finite element method(FEM). Recently, numerical analyses of transformer are studied for optimum design, that is electric field analysis, magnetic field, potential vibration, thermal distribution and thermal stress. Therefore design time and design cost are decreased by numerical analysis. In this paper, the temperature distribution and thermal stress analysis of 50kVA pole cast resin transformer for power distribution are investigated by FEM program. The temperature change according to load rates of transformer also have been investigated. We have carried out temperature rise test and test results are compared with simulation data.

  • In this paper, we analyze the thermal deformation of mask frame assembly using finite element method(FEM) and predict the beam landing shift during tube operation. For realistic analysis, the apparent thermal conductivity and the apparent elastic modulus are calculated and the shadow mask is modeled as shell without aperatures. Also, all parts inside the tube are modeled and the each radiative effect is considered. Then the finite element analysis is performed for transient thermo-elastic deformation of the mask frame assembly and the beam landing shift is calculated. Experiments are eprformed for 17" cathode ray tube (CRT) to validate the FEM analysis. The temperatures of all parts inside the tube and beam landing shift on the panel are measured and the results are discussed in comparison with the results of the FEM analysis.ysis.
