Objectives: Young children's feeding characteristics can play an important role in eating habits and health during later childhood. This study was conducted to examine the associations of feeding characteristics with dietary patterns and obesity in children. Methods: This study utilized data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey conducted between 2013 and 2017. In total, 802 toddlers were included, with information on their demographic characteristics, feeding practices and duration, and 24-hour recall obtained from their parents. Feeding characteristics were categorized into feeding type, duration of total breastfeeding, duration of total formula feeding, duration of exclusive breastfeeding, and age when starting formula feeding. Dietary patterns were identified based on factor loadings for the food groups for 3 major factors, with "vegetables & traditional," "fish & carbohydrates," and "sweet & fat" patterns. Overweight/obesity was defined as ≥85th percentile in body mass index based on the 2017 Korean National Growth charts for children and adolescents. Multiple regression analysis was conducted to examine associations between feeding characteristics and dietary patterns. The association between dietary patterns and obesity was analyzed using multivariable logistic regression analysis. Results: The early introduction of formula feeding was inversely associated with the "vegetables & traditional" pattern (β=-0.18; 95% confidence interval [CI], -0.34 to -0.02). A higher "vegetables & traditional" intake was associated with a lower risk of obesity (odds ratio, 0.48; 95% CI, 0.24 to 0.95). Conclusions: Feeding characteristics are associated with dietary patterns in later childhood, and dietary patterns were shown to have a potential protective association against obesity.

The feeding habits of juvenile Chaenogobius annularis were examined based on gut content analysis of 281 individuals, collected from May to June 2011 in the coastal water of Geoje, Korea. Copepods were the main source of food for C. annularis, which constituted 61.6% in IRI. Barnacle larvae was the second largest dietary component. Graphical analysis of the diet composition showed that C. annularis was a specialized predator characterized by strong individual feeding specialization. Both small and large size class of C. annularis mainly consumed harpacticoida and cirripedia cypris.
Analysis of stomach content for common squid was carried out to investigate the difference in seasonal and ontogenetic feeding behavior. Totals of 1368 common squid were collected monthly off Busan from September 2004 to August, 2005. Size range of common squid was 8.5-31.8 cm mantle length (ML) during the study period. Of the 1368 stomachs examined, 599 specimens (43.8%) were empty. Stomach contents indicated that common squid was carnivore: Large portion of stomach contents consisted of fish and mollusca (mainly common squid). The stomach contents index (SCI) seemed to increase with size, though there was no statistical difference between size classes significantly. Cannibalism was minimum in size range of 15-20 cm ML, but was steadily increased with size. Cephalopods were the major prey during spring and summer when common squid were small, but fish replaced it during autumn and winter when they became large.

The feeding habits of Sebastes schlegeli collected from the Tongyeong marine ranching area throughout 2002 were studied. S. schlegeli is a carnivore (piscivore), and consumed mainly fish. Its diet also included a small amount of caridean shrimps, crabs, amphipods, polychaetes, and isopods. The diet of S. schlegeli underwent size-related changes. Small individuals (standard length (SL)<6 cm) fed mainly on fishes, caridean shrimps, and amphipods, and the proportion of fish increased with SL. Large individuals (SL>20 cm) ate fish predominately. The diet of S. schlegeli changes seasonally, and caridean shrimps were consumed mainly from May to July. The dietary breadth index of S. schlegeli varied with SL and season.

In order to compared the feeding habits of Micropterus salmoides according to the habitat types, the stomach content of a total of 306 M. salmoides were investigated from April to September 2016 in the stream and reservoir. As a result, the highest IRI (Index of relative importance) value in M. salmoides inhibiting the stream and reservoir were identified as fishes. However, the IRI value of crustaceans and insects as well as fishes in M. salmoides inhibiting the reservoir were high, showing a difference in IRI value of M. salmoides inhibiting the stream.
Food habits of Alaska plaice, Pleuronectes quadrituberculatus, and ecological interactions of this species with yellowfin sole, Limanda aspera, and rock sole, Lepidopsetta bilineata, in the eastern Bering Sea were studied. Alaska plaice mainly feed on polychaetes regardless of sex and size of fish. However, it was shown that food differed by sampling area. Feeding did not occur at night. Food competition seems to be negligible among the three shallow water fiatfish species inhabiting the eastern Bering Sea due to differences in food spectra or spatial distribution.
In order to develop a logical method for using selective fishing gear, the behaviour and habits of the aquatic animals must be investigated. However, until now, little national research has been carried out to investigate the behaviour and habits of the common octopus (Octopus minor). The purpose of this study henceforth, is to compile necessary behavioral data to develop fishing gear to catch the common octopus. Behaviour and habits of the common octopus were observed while breeding in a water tank from February to May, 2003. The feeding habits of common octopus are more vigorous at night than in the daytime. The common octopus feeds on 1-4 bait crabs per day and consume each crab in 40-50 min. The sensory organs of the common octopus are more influenced by the sense of touch and smell, than by vision. Using live bait is more effective and advantageous than using dead bait, as the common octopus responded more to live bait. The hiding habits of the common octopus were very intensive, as they hid around all the shelters that were provided in this study. They demonstrated territorial behavior and struggled to maintain their sphere of influence. In addition, out of the various colors for shelters and bait supplied, the common octopus preferred light colors.
The feeding habits of larval Ammodytes japonicus were examined. A total of 208 individuals were collected by RN80 Net from January to February, 2019 in the coastal waters of Gujora and Mangchi, Geoje, Korea. Range of notochord length of larval A. japonicus was 1.46~8.00 mm and fed mainly on copepods that constituted 99.9% in %IRI. The results of analysis in ontogenetic changes, divided with 3 classes (≤2 mm, 3~4 mm, ≥5 mm, Notochord length), was all classes mainly fed copepods. An opposite relationship was found between the calanoida and cyclopoida. When percentage of calanoida of copepods increased, cyclopoida of copepods decreased.
