In recent years the interest on flexible display has been increasing as a future display due to its bendable characteristics. An ITO(indium tin oxide) layer, which is part of a flexible display, can be broken easily while bending because it is made of brittle materials. This brittle property can cause the malfunction of flexible display. To analyze fracture characteristics of ITO layer, bending test was conducted commonly. However, it is not possible to know specific phenomena on bended ITO layer by simple bending test only. Accordingly, in this study, the FE(finite element) model is developed similarly to a real flexible display to analyze stress distribution of flexible display under bending condition, especially on ITO layer. To validate FE model, actual bending test was conducted and the test results were compared with the simulation results by measuring reaction forces during bending. By using the developed model, FE analysis about the effect of design parameter (Thickness & Young's Modulus of BL) on ITO Layer was performed. By explained FE analysis above, this research draws a conclusion of reliable design guide of flexible display, especially on ITO layer.

In this study, the optimum structure of a magnetic thin film inductor was designed for application of DC-DC converters. The Ni$\sub$81/Fe$\sub$19/ (at%) alloy was selected as a high-frequency($\geq$MHz) magnetic thin film magnetron sputtering system. As-deposited NiFe thin films show similar magnetic properties compared to bulk NiFe alloys, indicating that they have a good film quality. The optimum design of dolenoid-type magnetic thin film inductors was performed utilizing a Maxwell computer simulator (Ansoftt HFSS V7.0 for PC) and parameters obtained from the magnetic properties of magnetic core materials selected. The high-frequency characteristics of the inductance(L) and quality factor(Q) obtained for the designed inductors through simulation agreed well with those obtained by theoretical calculations, confirming that the simulated result is realistic. The optimum structure of high-performance (Q$\geq$60, L = 1${\mu}$H, efficiency $\geq$90%), high-frequency ($\geq$5MHz), and solenoid-type magnetic thin film inductors was designed successfully.

Since the dimension of cold forged part is larger than the cavity size of forging die, the difference results from the various features, such as, the elastic characteristics of die and workpiece, thermal influences, and machine-elasticity. All of these factors should be considered to get more accurate prediction of the dimension of forged part. In this paper, severe FE techniques are proposed to improve the prediction accuracy of dimension for cold forged part. To validate the importance of the above mentioned factors, and the estimated results are compared with the experimental results. The used model is a closed die upsetting of cylindrical billet. The calculated dimensions are well coincided with .the measured values based on the proposed techniques. The proposed techniques have put two simple but important points into Fe simulation. One is the separation of forging stages into 3 steps, from a loading through punch retraction to ejecting stage. The other is the dimensional change, according to the temperature changes due to the deformation. The FE analysis could predict the dimension of cold forged part within the $10{\mu}m$, based on the more realistic consideration.
Rheological behaviour of fresh concrete is an important factor in controlling concrete quality. It is recognized that the measurement of the slump is not a sufficient test method to adequately characterize the rheology of fresh concrete. To further understand the slump measurement and its relationship to the rheological properties, an elasto-viscoplastic, 2-D axisymmetric finite element (FE) model is developed. The FE model employs the Bingham material model to simulate the flow of a slump test. An experimental program is carried out using the Slump Rate Machine (SLRM_II) to evaluate the finite element simulation results. The simulated slump-versus-time curves are found to be in good agreement with the measured data. A sensitivity study is performed to evaluate the effects of yield stress, plastic viscosity and cone withdrawal rate on the measured flow curve using the FE model. The results demonstrate that the computed yield stress compares well with reported experimental data. The flow behaviour is shown to be influenced by the yield stress, plastic viscosity and the cone withdrawal rate. Further, it is found that the value of the apparent plastic viscosity is different from the true viscosity, with the difference depending on the cone withdrawal rate. It is also confirmed that the value of the final slump is most influenced by the yield stress.

A full finite element (FE)-based approach is presented for the precision analysis of the strip profile in flat rolling. Basic FE models for the analysis of the mechanical behavior of the strip and of the rolls are described in detail. Also described is an iterative strategy for a rigorous treatment of the mechanical contact occurring at the roll-strip interface and at the roll-roll interface. Then, presented is an integrated FE process model for the coupled analysis of the mechanical behavior of the strip, work roll, and backup roll in four-high mill. A series of process simulation are conducted and the results are compared with the measurements made in hot and cold rolling experiments.

Compared to previous in-vitro test, FE model showed reliable motion patterns. A finite element model of a 50th percentile male neck was developed to study the mechanics of whiplash injury while the rear impacts. The model was consisted of the whole cervical vertebrae including part of occipital, intervertebral discs. which were modeled using linear viscoelastic materials and posterior elements. The sliding interfaces were defined to simulate contact phenomena in facet joints and in odontoid process. All ligaments and atlanto-occipital membrane were modeled as nonlinear bar elements. Only muscle elements were not considered. Motion of each cervical vertebra was obtained from the dynamic simulation with a MADYMO model for 15 km/h $40\%$ rear end offset impacts. Soft tissue neck injury(STNI) was investigated with a developed FE model. In FE model analysis, the high stress was appeared at C3/C4 disc in offset impact. Further research is still needed in order to improve the developed neck FE model for many different crash patterns.
Vibration characteristics of the FIV test loop for the Flow-Induced Vibration(FIV) study of a PWR partial(5x5) fuel assembly are investigated by the Finite Element(FE) analysis and the modal test. For the FE analysis, 3-D beam element is used for the pipes and the test section and mass element used for the valves and flanges. The 'U' restrainer stiffness determined by numerical simulation is used for the FE model. The result of the FE analysis is compared with that of the modal test. The higher mode similarity between the test and analysis is observed in a few low modes. After that, the mode similarity reduce as the mode goes high. It is concluded that the first to the third vibration modes are observed at the lower parts of the 6 inches restoring line, followed by a local mode at the test section, and the natural frequencies of the modes are 22.4 Hz, 26.0 Hz, 27.5 Hz and 31.4 Hz.
Dynamic characteristics of TbFeCo magneto-optical recording media at 680nm wavelength region were studied by means of computer simulation of disc structure and optimization of process variables during sputter deposition. With the slightly reduced Kerr rotation angle due to the reduced wavelength of optical laser source, the improved recording density in TbFeCo magneto optical media showing the CNR greater than 50dB could be achieved by only adjusting the thickness of dielectric and the recording layers when the wavelength of light source is changed from 780nm to 680nm. In addition, the recording power margin of 5mW and the 2mW minimum recording power was realized, It was shown from the present study that the increase in laser power density demonstrated feasibility of low cost and low power laser diode with the reduced optimum recording power.

Numerical simulation was carried out to study the trichloroethylene (TCE) degradation by permeable reactive barrier (PRB), and revealed the effect of concentration of TCE, iron medium mass, and concentration of iron-reducing bacteria (IRB). Newly developed model was based on axial dispersion reactor model with chemical and biological reaction terms and was implemented using MATLAB ver R2006A for the numerical solutions of dispersion, convection, and reactions over column length and elapsed time. The reaction terms include reactions of TCE degradation by zero-valent iron (ZVI, Fe$^0$) and ferrous iron (Fe$^{2+}$). TCE concentration in the column inlet was maintained as 10 mg/L. Equation for Fe$^0$ degradation includes only TCE reaction term, while one for Fe$^{2+}$ has chemical and biological reaction terms with TCE and IRB, respectively. Two coupled equations eventually modeled the change of TCE concentration in a column. At Fe$^0$ column, TCE degradation rate was found to be more than 99% from 60 hours to 235 hours, and declined to less than 1% in 1,365 hours. At the Fe$^{2+}$ and IRB mixed column, TCE degradation rate was equilibrated at 85.3% after 210 hours and kept it constant. These results imply that the ferrous iron produced by IRB has lowered the TCE degradation efficiency than ZVI but it can have higher longevity.http://kci.go.kr/kciportal/ci/contents/ciConnReprerSearchPopup.kci#
