  • In this paper, the experiment and simulation results of the Boost converter for PFC(power factor correction) using metal powder inductor are presented. The metal powder inductor used in the experiment was composed of Ni-Fe-Mo, Ni-Fe, Fe-Si-Al compound respectively The performance of the 500w class PFC rectifier with the average current mode control and the 300W class PFC rectifier with the variable frequency control, are evaluated.

  • This paper presents results of the finite-element(FE) analysis and experiment of air-gap flux variation in induction motor when rotor eccentricity vibration conditions occur. An accurate modeling and analysis of rotor vibration in the machine are developed using commercial FE analysis tool and search coils are used for measuring the actual air-gap flux. In the FE analysis and experiment, the induction motor with 380[V], 5[HP], 4r, 1742[rpm] ratings is used. The simulation and experimental results can be useful for rotor vibration monitoring of the induction motor.

Enhancement of Fe Magnetic Moments in Ferromagnetic $Fe_{16}N_2$ (강자성 $Fe_{16}N_2$ 화합물에서의 Fe 자기모멘트의 증가)

  • In order to investigate electronic and magnetic properties of $Fe_{16}N_{2}$ ferromagnet, we have performed electronic structure calculations employing the self-consistent local density functional LMTO(linearized muffin tin orbital) band method. We have obtained the ground state parameters, such as band structures, density of states, Stoner parameters, and magnetic moments. Based on these results, we have investigated microscopically the magnetic structure and the enhancement of Fe magnetic moments in this compound. Magnetic moments of 3 types of Fe(Fe I, Fe II and Fe III) in $Fe_{16}N_{2}$ are 2.13, 2.50, and $2.85\;{\mu}_{B}$, respectively. Large enhancement of Fe magnetic moment is observed in Fe II and Fe III, which are located rather far from N. This implies that local environment is very important in determining the Fe magnetic moments in this compound. Our value of average magnetic moment per Fe atom. $2.50\;{\mu}_{B}$, is a bit smaller than the reported estimate, $-3.0\;{\mu}_{B}$, from the experiment.

  • Recently, rods having irregular sections more complex than a rectangle or ellipse are necessary to produce mechanical parts. The cold shaped drawing process is used to obtain shaped drawn products with high levels of dimensional accuracy and quality. A cross roller guide, considered in this study, is one of the parts produced by shaped drawing process. A cross roller guide has a linear bearing system that rolls along a guide way. A cross roller guide is one of the most important components in terms of equipment because the quality of the product influences the precision linear motion. Therefore, the final dimensional accuracy of the linear rail in the shaped drawing is very important. The objective of this study is to find the optimized die angles to improve the dimensional accuracy and straightness of the final shaped drawn product. In order to achieve the aim of this study, design of experiment, FE-simulation, and the Taguchi method were used. Based on the analytical results, shaped drawing experiment has been performed to verify the result.

Synthesis and Characteristics of W-Ni-Fe Nanocomposite Powder by Hydrogen Reduction of Oxides (산화물 수소환원에 의한 W-Ni-Fe 나노복합분말의 합성과 특성)

  • The synthesis and characteristics of W-Ni-Fe nanocomposite powder by hydrogen reduction of ball milled W-Ni-Fe oxide mixture were investigated. The ball milled oxide mixture was prepared by high energy attrition milling of W blue powder, NiO and $Fe_2O_3$ for 1 h. The structure of the oxide mixture was characteristic of nano porous agglomerate composite powder consisting of nanoscale particles and pores which act as effective removal path of water vapor during hydrogen reduction process. The reduction experiment showed that the reduction reaction starts from NiO, followed by $Fe_2O_3$ and finally W oxide. It was also found that during the reduction process rapid alloying of Ni-Fe yielded the formation of $\gamma$-Ni-Fe. After reduction at 80$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 h, the nano-composite powder of W-4.57Ni-2.34Fe comprising W and $\gamma$-Ni-Fe phases was produced, of which grain size was35nm for W and 87 nm for $\gamma$-Ni-Fe, respectively. Sinterability of the W heavy alloy nanopowder showing full density and sound microstructure under the condition of 147$0^{\circ}C$/20 min is thought to be suitable for raw material for powder injection molding of tungsten heavy alloy.

Production of Iron Enriched Eggs of Laying Hens

  • An experiment was conducted to investigate the efficiency of transfer of dietary iron sources to eggs of laying hens. Eighty ISA-Brown laying birds of 30 wk old were housed in 40 cages of 2 birds each. Eight birds in four cages were assigned to one of the following ten treatments: T1; control, T2; 100 ppm iron supplementation with iron-methionine chelate (Fe-Met-100), T3; Fe-Met- 200, T4; Fe-Met-300, T5; 100 ppm iron supplementation with iron sulfate ($FeSO_4$-100), T6; $FeSO_4$-200, T7; $FeSO_4$-300, T8; 100 ppm iron supplementation with Availa-$Fe^{(R)}$ (Availa-Fe-100), T9; Availa-Fe-200 and T10; Availa-Fe-300. Results of 40 d feeding trial showed that there were no consistent responses in laying performance by source and level of iron supplementation. However, eggshell strength and color were improved by Fe supplementation. Egg iron content was maximized at 10-15 days after feeding supplemental Fe. Fe- Met was the most effective source in enriching Fe of eggs followed by Availa-Fe and $FeSO_4$. Increasing supplementary Fe level more than 100 ppm was not effective in Fe-Met and Availa-Fe treatments. Average Fe enrichment of 18% was achieved after feeding Fe-Met-100 for 15 d. In conclusion, enrichment of Fe in egg could be effectively achieved by supplementation of Fe-Met-100 for 15 d.

  • The quantitative analysis experiment of Zn-Fe electroplated steel was carried out by means of glow discharge spectrometry. The experimental results of chemical composition and coating weight of the Zn-Fe layer were compared with those obtained by the wet chemical analysis method. It has been found that those results obtained by two different methods agreed well with each other.

Selective Removal of Toxic Heavy Metals in Fe-Coagulants (철염 응집제 중 유독성 중금속의 선택적 제거)

  • Among various reactions which metal sulfides can undergo in the reducing environment, the lattice exchange reaction was examined in a attempt to selectively remove heavy metal ions contained in the Fe-Coagulants acid solution. We have examined Zeta potential along with pHs to investigate surface characteristics of ${FeS}_{(s)}$. As a result of this experiment, zero point charge(ZPC) of FeS is pH 7 and zeta potential which resulted from solid solution reaction between Pb(II) and ${FeS}_{(s)}$ is similar to that of ${PbS}_{(s)}$. Solubility characteristics of ${FeS}_{(s)}$ is appeared to that dissolved Fe(II) concentration increased in less than pH 4, and also increased with increasing heavy metal concentration. Various heavy metal ions(Pb(II), Cu(II), Zn(II)) contained in Fe-coagulants acid solution were removed selectively more than ninety-five percent in the rang of pH 2.5~10 by ${FeS}_{(s)}$. From the above experiments, therefore, We could know that the products of reaction between heavy metal ions and $FeS_{(S)}$ are mental sulfide such as $PbS_{(S)}$, $CuS_{(S)}$ and $ZnS_{(S)}$.

  • The functional external fixator system fur bone deformity near joints in legs using the worm gear was developed for curing the difference angles in fracture bone and the lengthening bar for curing the difference length in fracture bone. Both experiments and FE analysis were performed to compare the elastic stiffness in several loading modes and to improve the functional external fixator system for the bone deformity. The FE model using the compressive and bending FE analysis was applied to the FE analysis due to the angle differences. The results show that the compressive stiffness value in experiment was 175.43N/mm; the bending stiffness value in experiment was 259.74N/mm; compressive stiffness value in FEM was 188.67N/mm; bending stiffness value in FEA was 285.71N/mm. The errors between experiments and FEA were less than 10%. The maximum stress (157MPa) to the angle of clamp was lower than the yield stress (176.4MPa) of SUS316L. The stiffnesses in both axial compressive and bending of the new fixator are about 2 times higher than other products except EBI (2003).
