A novel wavelength selectable multichannel Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer using sampled grating (샘플격자를 이용한 새로운 파장가변형 다채널 OADM)

  • In this paper, a novel wavelength selectable multi-channel OADM(Optical Add/Drop Multiplexers) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The proposed OADM drops simultaneously more than one channel among many channels with small wavelength tuning by using one sampled grating and FBGs, Interchannel crosstalk (or interchannel rejection ratio) better than 20[dB] has been shown experimentally.

  • Today, peoples have much interest about safety while an abnormal weather phenomenon is weighted increased. R.C buildings are consisting of main loaded members. Concrete are brittle materials and they are which come to brittle fracture rapidly by progress of cracks. With the exchange of such research in inside and outside of the country, the structure measurement method of having used PZT and the optical fiber (FBG) will be the actual condition which has accomplished the stock. Specially, seismic activity that gives damage to construction and members happens in on time. Therefore, the purpose of this study is the fundamental research which detects damagesof main members using the compound sensor which consisted of the radio sensors of resistance, PZT, and FM system.

  • Aggregate bandwidth required by the internet is expected to be explosively increased. To meet this anticipated need, an ultra high speed internet backbone transport network, capable of supporting up to a Tbps traffic capacity, is required. this thesis examines, through computer simulation and modeling, the technological requirements and assesses the performance analysis and feasibility for implementing ultra-high speed NGI backbone transport network fabric based on WDM technology. The study results are that C/L band EDFA spectral gains for ultra high speed DWDM have been improved from 2.61dB/1.5386dB to 0.03dB/0.096dB by proposed architecture.

  • 파장분할 다중방식 광통신망(WDM -PON) 운영의 신뢰성을 높이기 위해 각 광 채널의 파장과 파워, 그리고 광섬유로 이어진 링크(link)의 절단상태 등을 모니터링(monitoring)하는 것은 필수적이다. 본 원고에서는 이러한 목적을 효율적이고 경제적으로 달성하기 위해 제시되고 검증되었던 방법들을 pilot tone을 이용한 방법, AWG, FBG, tunable filter 등의 파장 선택성 소자를 이용한 방법, electrical processing을 이용한 방법 등의 세 가지로 나누어 소개한다.

  • Early detection in real-time response of slope movements ensures tremendous saving of lives and repair costs from catastrophic disaster. Therefore, it is essential to constantly monitor the performance and integrity of slope-stabilizing structures such as Rock bolt, Nail and Pile during or after installation. We developed a novel monitoring system using Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensor. It's advantages are highly sensitivity, small dimension and electro-magnetic immunity. capability of multiplexing, system integrity, remote sensing - these serve real-time health monitoring of the structures. Real-time strain measurement by the signal processing program is shown graphically and it gives a warning sound when the monitored strain state exceeds a given threshold level so that any sign of abnormal disturbance on the spot can be easily perceived.

An OCDMA Scheme to Reduce Multiple Access Interference and Enhance Performance for Optical Subscriber Access Networks

  • We propose a new optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) scheme for reducing multiple access interference (MAI) and enhancing performance for optical subscriber access networks using modified pseudorandom noise (PN)-coded fiber Bragg gratings with bipolar OCDMA decoders. Through the bipolar OCDMA decoder and the modified PN codes, MAI among users is effectively depressed. As the data are encoded either by a unipolar signature sequence of the modified PN code or its complement according to whether the data bit is 1 or 0, the bit error ratio (BER) can be more improved with the same signal to interference plus noise ratio over the conventional on-off shift keying-based OCDMA system. We prove by numerical analysis that the BER of the proposed bipolar OCDMA system is better than the conventional unipolar OCDMA system. We also analyze the spectral power distortion effects of the broadband light source.

  • 고속도로에서 주행속도가 높아지게 되면, 도로의 노면 상태에 따라 차량의 안전과 쾌적한 운전자의 환경이 변화될 수 있다. 이처럼 도로의 노면 상태를 결정하는 주된 인자는 도로의 평탄성과 소성변형에 의한 노면의 요철이라고 할 수 있다. 평탄하지 못한 도로를 자동차가 고속으로 주행하게 되면, 자동차의 속도에 의한 도로와의 마찰이 발생하여 자동차에는 매우 큰 흔들림이 발생하게 된다. 또한, 도로의 경우에도 자동차의 차축과 도로면에서 발생하는 충격에 의해 미세한 진동이 발생하게 된다. 그리고 광섬유 브래그 격자(FBG)센서는 외부에서 작용하는 매우 미세한 물리량에 의한 변화의 측정이 가능한 매우 우수한 계측 센서로 사용이 가능하기 때문에 온도보상형 광섬유진동센서를 제작하였고, 이를 고속도로 포장면의 평탄성 모니터링에 활용하고자 하였다.

Analysis of the axial force in CWR connected with turnout by means of the field measurement (현장계측을 통한 교량상 분기기 축력 분석에 관한 연구)

  • The demand on a turnout layed on a bridge is rising owing to the increasing number of stations on the viaduct. And also the demand on a turnout with CWR is rising to upgrade running speed of the passing train. A CWR connected with turnout is subjected to additional axial force induced by the actions due to change in temperature, braking and starting force, and bending of the deck. But magnitude and distribution of the axial force in rails of turnout is not clear yet. So, in this study, a field measurement was conducted to know them. The strain gage method was adopted for field test. The FBG sensor for the strain measurement was used to ensure stability of test value and durability of gage for long term. It is expected that we can get data on the axial force in rail connected with turnout with respect to seasonal temperature change by the established field test system.

  • 현재 광통신 분야는 보다 많은 정보를 동시에 전송하기 위해 다양한 다중화 방식들을 요구 받고 있다. 광섬유 Bragg 격자 소자를 이용한 모든 광 분기/결합 장치는 분기/결합할 수 있는 신호가 광섬유 격자 소자의 Bragg파장에 의해 정해지므로 하나의 광섬유 격자 소자는 고정된 한 채널만을 분기, 결합할 수 있다는 단점을 지니고 있다. 그러나 광섬유 격자에 온도와 스트레인(strain) 같은 외부 물리량을 가하게 되면 광섬유 격자의 주기가 변하게 되어 반사파장이 고정되지 않고 파장을 가변 할 수 있는 장점을 가지게 된다. 이에 본 논문에서는 광섬유 격자 소자에 가해진 온도, 스트레인에 의해 Bragg파장이 변화하는 성질을 이용하여 파장 가변형 Bragg 격자를 제작 및 실험을 통하여 전광필터 특성에 대하여 제시하였다.

Specialized Sensors and System Modeling for Safety-critical Application

  • Special purpose sensor design using MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) technique is commonly used in Nondestructive Testing (NDT) research for the evaluation of existing structures and for the safety control and requirements. Various sensors and network have been developed for general infrastructures as well as safety-critical applications, e.g., aerospace, defense, and nuclear system, etc. In this paper, one of sensor technique using Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBG) and Finite Element Method (FEM) evaluation is discussed. The experimental setup and data collection technique is also demonstrated. The factors influencing test result and the advantages/limitations of this technique are also reviewed using various methods.
