  • Currently, extreme weather events such as super typhoon, extreme snowfall, and heat wave are frequently occurring all over the world by natural and human caused factors. After industrial growth in the 1970s, earth's temperature has risen sharply. due to greenhouse effect. Global warming can be attributed to gases emitted from using fossil fuel such as average carbon dioxide, perfluorocarbons, nitrous oxide, and methane. Especially, carbon dioxide has the highest composition of about 90%. in the fossile fuel usage emitted gas. Concrete has excellent durability as a building material climate change. However, due to various of physical and chemical environmental effect such as conditions during its curing process, the performance degradation may occur. Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere causes steel corrosion and durability decreases by lowering the alkalinity of concrete. Therefore, in this study, concrete durability performance with respect to carbonation from curing conditions change due to wind speed and sunshine exposure time. Concrete carbonation experiment are performed. using wind speed (0, 2, 4, 6) m/s and sunlight exposure time (2, 4, 6, 8) hrs. Also, performance based evaluation through the satisfaction curve based on the carbonation depth and carbonation rate test results are performed.

  • Steel Catenary Risers (SCR) are the simplest and often the most economic solution compared to other riser types such as flexible pipe, riser towers, top tensioned risers, etc. The top of a SCR is connected to the host platform riser porch. The other end of the SCR connects to flowlines from subsea wells. The riser touchdown point (TDP), which is the location along the riser where contact with the sea floor first occurs, exhibits complex behaviors and often results in compression and fatigue related issues. Heave dynamic responses of semisubmersibles in extreme and operating sea states are crucial for feasibility of SCR application. Recent full field measurement results of a deep draft semisubmersible in Hurricane Gustav displayed the considerable discrepancies in heave responses characteristics between the measured and the simulated results. The adequacy and accuracy of the simulated results from recognized commercial software should be examined. This finding raised the awareness of shortcomings of current commercial software and potential risk in mega investment loss and environmental pollutions due to SCR failures. One main objective of this paper is to attempt to assess the importance and necessity of accounting for viscous effects during design and analysis by employing indicator of viscous parameter. Since viscous effects increase with nearly third power of significant wave height, thus newly increased metocean criteria per API in central Gulf of Mexico (GoM) and even more severe environmental conditions in Western Australia (WA) call for fundamental enhancements of the existing analysis tools to ensure reliable and robust design. Furthermore, another aim of this paper is to address the impacts of metocean criteria and design philosophy on semisubmersible hull sizing in WA and GoM.

  • Purpose: Recently, according to climate changes, human health is exposed to danger over the world and they influence all fields of human society. Due to these climate changes, humans can be exposed to more frequent and extreme scorching heat and cold wave than the present. As precautions against these urban higher temperature and dryness, diverse methods are being sought. Among them, as measures to form cold islands, the evaporative cooling effect realistic to social and economic conditions was examined. Method: This study was conducted to analyze effects of temperature reduction and cooling according to injection quantity of minute water particles by using a blast sprayer as one of alternatives of alleviation of urban climate changes in outside space in summer. For this, through temperature difference in accordance with the injection quantity per hour of a day, a time zone representing the value of the highest temperature change was analyzed. Also, by analyzing temperature difference according to the injection quantity per daytime insolation, relation of amounts of insolation and evaporation was investigated. Temperature difference in accordance with distances at the highest temperature with the highest value in temperature changes was analyzed. Result: At the study result, about temperature, as injection quantity increase, temperature reduction was significant statistically at the highest temperature with the most insolation. A factor with the highest influence was judged to be the increase of the injection quantity. According to the injection quantity, it was predicted that $3.1^{\circ}C$ temperature reduction of a daily average in case of 0.16L/min, $3.5^{\circ}C$ temperature reduction of a daily average in case of 0.32L/min, and $4.4^{\circ}C$ temperature reduction of a daily average in case of 0.48L/min.

  • The purpose of this study was to research into TV makeup types focusing on Korean aesthetics with recognizing importance of Korean thought amid what the global interest pays attention to South Korea thanks to the recent influence of Hanryu(Korean wave). The following are summary and result of this study. The non-dual beauty is an integrative concept of including ambivalence on the categorical difference in sex, culture and class by transcending the extreme binary division. As this is what reflected the open thought of pursuing balance of yin and yang in Korean people, it is being shown in the form of transcendence and far-outness through TV entertainment programs. Transcendence coexisted with maintaining relative relationship beyond separation in sex. Far-outness was pursuing free sensitivity immanent in the non-separated thought of transcending the past, the present and future. This trend is being indicated similarly to a change in its paradigm from separation to convergence these days. Accordingly, even makeup was showing similarity to the recent trend with being paid attention to the makeup of focusing on identity in sex and to the makeup of being coexisted the past, the present and future with the aspect of being mixed space time. The Korean aesthetics has been feeble in its influence compared to the Oriental image of focusing on China and Japan in the meantime. Hence, this study can be said to have significance in a sense of being the first consideration that compared TV makeup types of focusing on Korean aesthetics and suggested its developmental direction.

  • Under the intense-impulsive loading, structures are subjected to the wide range of pressures at an instantaneous time. The constitutive laws capable to describe the material behavior under the extreme pressure as well as the low pressure are necessary for the analysis of the structural behavior under the intense -impulsive loadings. In this study, two plastic models, the pressure independent Von-Mises model and the pressure dependent Drucker-Prager model, are employed for the wave propagation analysis. Governing equations of this study are conservation equations of momentum and mass in Lagrangian coordinate system which is fixed to the material. Due to the shock-front which violates the continuity assumptions inherent in the differential equations numerical artificial viscosity is used to spread the shock front over several computational zones. These equations are solved by Finite Difference Method with discretized time and space coordinates. The associate normality flow rule as a plastic theory is implemented to find the plastic strains.

  • To study oceanic and meteorological problems related to climate change, Korea has been operating several ocean research stations (ORSs). In 2011, the Gageocho ORS was attacked by Typhoon Muifa, and its structural members and several observation devices were severely damaged. After this event, the Gageocho ORS was rehabilitated with 5 m height to account for 100-yr extreme wave height, and the vibration measurement system was equipped to monitor the structural vibrational characteristics including natural frequencies and modal damping ratios. In this study, a mass reallocation method is presented for structural model updating of the Gageocho ORS based on the experimentally identified natural frequencies. A preliminary finite element (FE) model was constructed based on design drawings, and several of the candidate baseline FE models were manually built, taking into account the different structural conditions such as corroded thickness. Among these candidate baseline FE models, the most reasonable baseline FE model was selected by comparing the differences between the identified and calculated natural frequencies; the most suitable baseline FE model was updated based on the identified modal properties, and by using the pattern search method, which is one of direct search optimization methods. The mass reallocation method is newly proposed as a means to determine the equivalent mass quantities along the height and in a floor. It was found that the natural frequencies calculated based on the updated FE model was very close to the identified natural frequencies. In conclusion, it is expected that these results, which were obtained by updating a baseline FE model, can be useful for establishing the reference database for jacket-type offshore structures, and assessing the structural integrity of the Gageocho ORS.

  • As the ship is getting bigger and faster lately, ship's structure or cargoes might be often damaged and the ship might be cut in two in extreme conditions by a wave impact on its bow. In this paper, the vertical acceleration, which is one of factors for evaluating seakeeping performance, was measured under the various sea states by the hull stress monitoring system(HMS) on the bridge, and the result was compared with those of model test and theoretical studies. Then, we confirmed the seakeeping performance of T.S. HANBADA by comparing it with ITTC seakeeping criteria This result will be a great help for the safe navigation by making it possible to estimate the possibility of work and the amount of risk under the various sea conditions with which may be confronted, and the shipbuilding yard can be possible to construct the vessel with superior performance through these data measured on the actual ship.

  • Inlet hammershock is the critical loads condition for designing the inlet duct structure of a fighter. The sudden flow reduction in engine compressor causes inlet hammershock with high pressure. The traditional method was used to combine extreme conditions (maximum speed, sea level altitude, and cold day) to analyze this compression wave inlet hammershock pressure. However, after the 90s there have been papers that presented the probabilistic approach for the inlet hammershock to achieve the appropriate design pressure. This study shows how to analyze the inlet hammershock pressure by making practical use of the Republic of Korea Air Force real flight usage data under probabilistic approach and then analyze approximately 30% decreased inlet hammershock pressure compared with the traditional valve.

  • Temporal and spatial variations in surface ozone concentrations in Busan were investigated by using observation data from urban air quality sites during 2001-2016. The annual ozone concentrations showed a significant increasing trend of $+0.40ppb\;yr^{-1}$ in this period, with a more rapid increase of $+0.81ppb\;yr-1$ since 2010. For the monthly analysis, the increase in ozone concentration was the greatest in August ($+0.68ppb\;yr-1$). These ozone trends were due mainly to rising temperature ($+0.05^{\circ}C\;yr^{-1}$) and weak decreasing precipitation ($-6.42mm\;yr^{-1}$). However, the extreme weather events (heat wave, localized heavy rain, etc.) lead to an increase in short-term variability of ozone since 2010. The relatively low ozone concentrations in the downtown area were caused by high NOx emissions from mobile sources. The increases in ozone concentrations were observed at most of the air quality monitoring sites due to the reductions in anthropogenic emissions of NOx during 2001-2015. However, in the southern coastal area, lower rates of increase in ozone concentrations were observed by $-0.10{\sim}0.25ppb\;yr^{-1}$ due to the significant NOx emitted by ships in the Busan port and Busan new port.
