  • We study diameter preserving linear maps from C(X) into C(Y) where X and Y are compact Hausdorff spaces. By using the extreme points of $C(X)^*\;and\;C(Y)^*$ and a linear condition on them, we obtain that there exists a diameter preserving linear map from C(X) into C(Y) if and only if X is homeomorphic to a subspace of Y. We also consider the case when X and Y are noncompact but locally compact spaces.

  • Generally the variable guide vane is used to secure the sufficient operating point in the off-design condition. In this study the inlet guide vane, 1st and 2nd stators in a multi-stage axial compressor are movable to obtain the operating range. So the effects of variable guide vane setting angle on the performance of 2.5 stage axial compressor were investigated at 70 % and 90 % conditions of nominal rotating speed in this paper. The steady-state and unsteady numerical analyses were conducted at each operating condition. The performance map, lost efficiency and flow fields were compared.

  • Design lifetime of a wind turbine is required to be at least 20 years. The most important step to ensure the deign is to evaluate the loads on the wind turbine as accurately as possible. In this study, extreme design load of a offshore wind turbine using Garrad Hassan (GH) Bladed and National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) FAST codes are calculated considering structural dynamic loads. These wind turbine aeroelastic analysis codes are high efficiency for the rapid numerical analysis scheme. But, these codes are mainly based on the mathematical and semi-empirical theories such as unsteady blade element momentum (UBEM) theory, generalized dynamic wake (GDW), dynamic inflow model, dynamic stall model, and tower influence model. Thus, advanced CFD-dynamic coupling method is also applied to conduct cross verification with FAST and GH Bladed codes. If the unsteady characteristics of wind condition are strong, such as extreme design wind condition, it is possible to occur the error in analysis results. The NREL 5 MW offshore wind turbine model as a benchmark case is practically considered for the comparison of calculated designed loads. Computational analyses for typical design load conditions such as normal turbulence model (NTM), normal wind profile (NWP), extreme operation gust (EOG), and extreme direction change (EDC) have been conducted and those results are quantitatively compared with each other. It is importantly shown that there are somewhat differences as maximum amount of 18% among numerical tools depending on the design load cases.

  • Let A denote the set {$a{\in}M_n{\mid}a{\geq}0$, $tr(a)=1$}, $St(M_n)$ the set of all states on $M_n$, and $PS(M_n)$ the set of all pure states on $M_n$. We show that there are one-to-one correspondences between A and $St(M_n)$, and between the set of all extreme points of A and $PS(M_n)$. We find a necessary and sufficient condition for a state on $M_{n1}{\oplus}{\cdots}{\oplus}M_{nk}$ to be extended to a pure state on $M_{n1}+{\cdots}+_{nk}$.

  • The long-term wind data are reconstructed from the short-term meteorological data to design the 4 MW offshore wind park which will be constructed at Woljeong-ri, Jeju island, Korea. Using two MCP (Measure-Correlate-Predict) models, the relative deviation of wind speed and direction from two neighboring reference weather stations can be regressed at each azimuth sector. The validation of the present method is checked about linear and matrix MCP models for the sets of measured data, and the characteristic wind turbulence is estimated from the ninety-percent percentile of standard deviation in the probability distribution. Using the Gumbel's model, the extreme wind speed of fifty-year return period is predicted by the reconstructed long-term data. The predicted results of this analysis concerning turbulence intensity and extreme wind speed are used for the calculation of fatigue life and extreme load in the design procedure of wind turbine structures at offshore wind farms.

  • In the present paper, a numerical and experimental analysis for a wave energy converter under extreme environmental conditions is carried out. After the definition of design waves, including a 100-year return period stochastic sea state and a deterministic rogue wave condition, a numerical analysis using potential theory and a RANS equations solver are compared with experiments carried out at the Seakeeping Basin at the Technical University of Berlin. Results are discussed with special emphasis on the limits of potential theory methods for the evaluation of extreme wave conditions and the use of the presented methodology for early design stages.

  • For a coastal or harbor structure design, one of the most important environmental factors is the appropriate extreme highest tide level condition. Especially, the information of extreme highest tide level distribution is essential for reliability design. In this paper, 23 set of extreme highest tide level data obtained from National Oceanographic Research Institute(NORI) were analyzed for extreme highest tide levels. The probability distributions considered in this research were Generalized Extreme Value(GEV), Gumbel, and Weibull distribution. For each of these distributions, three parameter estimation methods, i.e. the method of moments, maximum likelihood and probability weighted moments, were applied. Chi-square and Kolmogorov-Smirnov goodness-offit tests were performed, and the assumed distribution was accepted at the confidence level 95%. Gumbel distribution which best fits to the 22 tidal station was selected as the most probable parent distribution, and optimally estimated parameters and extreme highest tide level with various return periods were presented. The extreme values of Incheon, Cheju, Yeosu, Pusan, and Mukho, which estimated by Shim et al.(1992) are lower than that of this result.

  • As climate change due to global warming continues to be accelerated, various extreme events become more intense, more likely to occur and longer-lasting on a much larger scale. Recent studies show that global warming acts as the primary driver of extreme events and that heat-related extreme events should be attributed to anthropogenic global warming. Among them, both terrestrial and marine heat waves are great concerns for human beings as well as ecosystems. Taking place around the world, one of those events appeared over East Sea in July 2021 with record-breaking high temperature. Meanwhile, climate condition around East Sea was favorable for anomalous warming with less total cloud cover, more incoming solar radiation, and shorter period of Changma rainfall. According to the results of wave activity flux analysis, highly activated meridional mode of teleconnection that links western North Pacific to East Asia caused localized warming over East Sea to become stronger.

  • In this paper, the compressive strength, pore characteristics, and chloride diffusion coefficient were measured at 28 days of age in order to examine the influence of curing conditions for the chloride diffusion and pores in concrete cured under extreme condition. According to the test results, the compressive strength was improved as the relative humidity increased. Additionally, higher compressive strength was observed when the specimens were cured at 35℃. However, the compressive strength of specimens cured at 45℃ was decreased. Meanwhile, the chloride diffusion coefficient decreased with an increase in curing temperature and relative humidity, indicating a difference compared to the trend observed for compressive strength. On the other hand, the excellent correlation showed between compressive strength and chloride diffusion coefficient, porosity and chloride diffusion coefficient when the concrete cured under water. However, when the concrete cured under extreme condition, this correlation was significantly reduced compared to the water curing case. In contrast, it has been determined that there is no significant correlation between the average pore size and chloride diffusion coefficient, regardless of the curing conditions.

  • The structure of the machinery industry due to the 4th industrial revolution is changing from precision and durability to intelligent and smart machinery through sensing and interconnection(IoT). There is a growing need for research on prognostics and health management(PHM) that can prevent abnormalities in processing machines and accurately predict and diagnose conditions. PHM is a technology that monitors the condition of a mechanical system, diagnoses signs of failure, and predicts the remaining life of the object. In this study, the vibration generated during machining is measured and a classification algorithm for normal and fault signals is developed. Arbitrary fault signal is collected by changing the conditions of un stable supply cutting oil and fixing jig. The signal processing is performed to apply the measured signal to the learning model. The sampling rate is changed for high speed operation and performed machine learning using raw signal without FFT. The fault classification algorithm for 1D convolution neural network composed of 2 convolution layers is developed.
