  • Immune activities of Opuntia ficus indica L. Miller were investigated through aqueous extracts associated with ultrasonification process at $60^{\circ}C$, and showed the highest promotion of human B and T cell growth, up to 52% and 41%, respectively, compared to the control. The secretion of TNF-${\alpha}$ and IL-60 was also enhanced by the addition $(0.5mg/m{\ell})$ of the extracts, up to 48%. NK cell activation was significantly improved up to 1.3 times higher than the case of adding other extracts. It was also found that extracts from O. ficus indica could yield higher nitric oxide production from macrophage than Lipopolysaccaharides (LPS). It can be concluded that, in general, the extracts treated with ultrasonification has higher Immune acitivities than others, possibly by higher yielding immune-modulatory than conventional extraction process. The optimum condition for the extraction of O. ficus-indicais water extraction associated with ultrasonification.

  • Purpose: To longitudinally observe the healing process of extracted socket and the alterations of the residual ridge in healthy adult dogs using cone beam CT (CBCT). Materials and Methods: The mandibular premolars of two beagle dogs were removed and the extraction sites were covered with the gingival tissue. CBCTs (3D X-ray CT scanner, Alphard vega, Asahi Co.) were taken at baseline and at 1 week interval for 12 weeks. Radiographic density of extracted wounds was measured on normalized images with a custom-made image analysis program. The amount of alveolar crestal resorption after the teeth extraction was measured with a reformatted three-dimensional image using CBCT. Bony healing pattern of extracted wound of each group was also longitudinally observed and analyzed. Results: Dimensional changes occurred during the first 6 weeks following the extraction of dogs' mandibular premolars. The reduction of the height of residual ridge was more pronounced at the buccal than at the lingual aspect of the extraction socket. Radiographic density of extracted wounds increased by week 4, but the change in density stabilized after week 6. New bone formation was observed at the floor and the peripheral side of extracted socket from week 1. The entrance of extracted socket was sealed by a hard-tissue bridge at week 5. Conclusion: The healing process of extracted wound involved a series of events including new bone formation and residual ridge resorption.

  • Extraction of valuable light hydrocarbon from atmospheric residue using pentane as a solvent has been carried out. The SIMDIS was used to calculate the true boiling point of atmospheric residue containing complex components before the modeling of the extraction process could by performed. In order to simplify the procedure, modeling was adopted and a lumping method was used, such that a large number of compounds were divided into similar component classes called pseudocomponents. The modeling of the extraction process of the atmospheric residue-pentane system was based on the isothermal flash calculation, and the Peng-Robinson equation of state was used to calculate the fugacity coefficient of vapor and liquid phase during calculation steps of modeling. The agreement between the experiments and the calculations was reasonable considering the uncertainties involved in modeling such complex processes.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of cold-pressed flaxseed oil through the roasting temperature (unroasted and roasted at 150℃ and 200℃) and time (10 and 20 min) on the chemical changes. Cold-pressed flaxseed oil extraction yield was calculated with respect to the roasted process and total phenolic content, fatty acid composition, and volatile compound were analyzed. The extraction yield was increased in the roasted oil compared to the unroasted oil. Total phenolic content was significantly higher in oil from the roasted at 150℃ for 20 min compared to other roasting condition. Fatty acid composition was not affected by the extraction process. The content of aldehyde, ketone, furan, and pyrazine was higher than in the roasted at 200℃ compared to the unroasted and roasted at 150℃. These findings suggest that cold-pressed flaxseed oil extracted from the roasted at 150℃ for 20 min may be considered acceptable for safe extraction process.

  • The concept of a new method, the CARBEX (CARBonate EXtraction) process, was proposed for reprocessing of spent uranium oxide fuel. The proposed process is based on use of water solutions of $Na_2CO_3$ or $(NH_4)_2CO_3$ and solvent extraction (SE) by the quaternary ammonium compounds for selective recovery and purification of U from the fission products (FPs). Applying of SE allows to reach high degree of purification of U from FPs. Carrying out the processes in poorly aggressive alkaline carbonate media leads to increasing safety of SNF's reprocessing and better selectivity of separation of lanthanides and actinides. Moreover carbonate reprocessing media allows to carry out a recycling and regeneration of reagents. We have been done laboratory scale experiments on the extraction components of simulated voloxidated spent fuel in the solutions of NaOH or $Na_2CO_3-H_2O_2$ and recovery of U from carbonate solutions by SE method using carbonate of methyltrioctylammonium in toluene. It was shown that the purification factors of U from impurities of simulated FPs reached values $10^3-10^5$. The received results support our opinion that CARBEX after the further development can become more safe, simple and profitable method of spent fuel reprocessing.

  • Yellow croaker Larimichthys polyactis muscle oil was extracted using an environmental friendly solvent, supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-$CO_2$), in a semi-batch flow extraction process. SC-$CO_2$ was applied at temperature $35^{\circ}C$ to $45^{\circ}C$ and $150^{\circ}C$ to $250^{\circ}C$ bar of pressure. The flow rate of $CO_2$ (27.79 g/min) was constant throughout the entire 1.5 h extraction period. The oil extraction yield was influenced by the physical properties of SC-$CO_2$ at different temperatures and pressures. The extracted oil was analyzed by gas chromatography to determine the fatty acid composition. According to our results, the SC-$CO_2$ extracted oil was high in eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid. In addition, the SC-$CO_2$ extracted oil showed greater stability than n-hexane extracted oil based on the peroxide value and acid value. Thus, the quality of yellow croaker oil obtained by SC-$CO_2$ extraction was slightly higher than that of oil obtained by n-hexane extraction.

  • Class extraction of object or component based software development methodology is the major factor for software quality. Each method has the class definition and extraction method however there are some troubles when the beginners try. Especially, the conceptual gap results to make the class extraction hard. This research suggests three diagrams to support it. They are Information diagram, Behavio diagram and Management diagram. They specify which services a stakeholder wants, which information to support the service, which actions to solve the service and who has the responsibility for those. Any analysis process which takes class extraction can utilize these diagrams.

  • Emulsion liquid membrane (ELM) process suffers from emulsion instability problem. So far, emulsion produced by mechanical methods such as stirrer and homogenizer has big size and high emulsion breakage. This paper discussed the application of emulsion produced by sonicator to extract cadmium in a batch ELM system. The emulsions consist of N,N-Dioctyl-1-octanamine (trioctylamine/TOA), nitrogen trihydride (ammonia/NH4OH), sorbitan monooleate (Span 80), and kerosene as carrier, stripping solution, emulsifying agent, and organic diluent, respectively. Effects of comprehensive parameters on extraction efficiency of Cd(II) such as emulsification time, extraction time, stirring speed, surfactant concentration, initial feed phase concentration, carrier concentration, volume ratio of the emulsion to feed phase, and pH of initial feed phase were evaluated. The results showed that extraction efficiencies of Cd(II) greater than 98% could be obtained under the following conditions: 15 minutes of emulsification time, 4 wt.% of Span 80 concentration, 4 wt.% of TOA concentration, 15 minutes of extraction time, 250 rpm of stirring speed, 100 ppm of initial feed concentration, volume ratio of emulsion to feed phase of 1:5, and initial feed pH of 1.53.

  • This paper proposes a defect cell extraction algorithm for TFT-LCD auto-repair system. Auto defect search algorithm and automatic defect cell extraction method are very important for TFT-LCD auto repair system. In the previous literature[1], we proposed an automatic visual inspection algorithm of TFT-LCD. Based on the inspected information(defect size and defect axis, if defect exists) by the automatic search algorithm, defect cells should be extracted from the input image for the auto repair system. For automatic extraction of defect cells, we used a novel block matching algorithm and a simple filtering process in order to find a given reference point in the LCD cell. The proposed defect cell extraction algorithm can be used in all kinds of TFT-LCD devices by changing a stored template which includes a given reference point. Various experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
