The liquid-liquid extraction of lipase A from Candide cylindracea and lipase B from porcine pancrease was carried out using reversed micellar organic solvents. Effects of various factors such as ionic strength, pH, and species and concentration of surfactant, on lipase solubilization were studied. A cationic surfactant cetyl-trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) in isooctane/nhexanol(1:1) was found to be an effective solvent and its optimum concentration was 50 mM. KCl among various salts tested was the most effective and the efficiency of solubilization of lipase increased with decreasing the ionic strength of salts. The maximum activity and solubiliz ation of protein were obtained at pH 8. The stripping efficiency has a maximum value at pH 4 and increases with KCl concentration in the range of 0.2∼1.0 M. After the solubilization and stripping, the overall recovery efficiency of mass and specific activity of lipases was 62% and 66%, respectively.

The reductive stripping of Np using a n-butyraldehyde (NBA) from loaded organic solution containing Np, which was oxidative-extracted in a system of a 30 % TBP/NDD-2M $HNO_3$ and O/A=2 containing 0.005 M $K_2Cr_2O_7$ as an oxidant of Np, was studied. The stripping yields of Np was increased with an increasing the NBA concentration, with a decreasing the nitric acid concentration of stripping solution and with a decreasing the reaction temperature. The apparent reductive stripping rate equation was shown by the following equation : $-d[Np]_{Org.}/dt$ = 1,524 exp(-2,906/T) $[NBA]^{0.91}\;[H^+]^{-0.92}[Np]_{Org.}$. At 1.04 M NBA and 2 M $NHO_3$, the stripping yield of Np and U was 70.1 %, and 7.1 %, respectively, and the separation factor of U over Np ($=D_U/D_{Mp}$) was about 30.4. Therefore, it was found that U and Np co-extracted in a system of TBP-$HNO_3$ could be effectively mutual-separated by the NBA.
Extraction treatment has been used for a long time to treat crowding or lip protrusion patients and still extraction decision is the most difficult and important decision during diagnosis and treatment planning. If the amount of crowidng is severe, premolar extraction is often considered. Because of their location, premolar extractions would seem to allow for the most straightforward relief of crowding and the improvement of soft tissue profile. But patients and their parents often prefer nonextraction approach if possible and such a preference gives us serious question about the boundary of nonextraction treatment. Because Orthodontic Mini-Implant (OMI) become popular these days, distalization of posterior teeth can be obtained easily without patient's compliance. For this reason, many orthodontists are trying to treat crowding patient with nonextraction than before. But sometime, unexpected side effects are observed including unesthetic profile, impaction of second molar and long treatment time. All the tools for space gaining - extraction, arch expansion, molar distalization and interproximal enamel reduction - have their limitations and indications. Possible side effects and limitations should be carefully considered during the treatment planning. Although Korean patients usually require extraction more often than US or European patients, more knowledge about the tools for space gaining would help us to decrease the rate of extraction and the problems during treatment of crowding patients.
A process development for direct synthesis of high pure ZnO powders from zinc-bearing waste was investigated. This waste contains a 55% of zinc and it was extracted by the sulfuric acid(leaching). After removal of iron ion by precipitation from the zinc solution, the purification through a solvent extraction by the use of D2EHPA as an extractant was carried out. Then, loaded zinc in organic solution was stripped and precipitated simultaneously using a precipitant such as oxalic acid. Then, loaded zinc in organic solution was stripped and precipitated simulataneously using a precipitant such as oxalic acid. The synthesized $ZnC_2O_4$ powders by the precipitation stripping method was calcined to obtain more than 99.9% of ZnO powders. The effect of sulfuric acid concentration, leaching time, pulp density on the extraction of zinc was studied and the optimum conditions for the solvent extraction were obtained through the investigation of purification of zinc solution. The size, morphology and size distribution of synthesized $ZnC_2O_4$ powders were studied in terms of oxalic acid concentration, temperature, surfactant added, precipitation time, etc.
Emulsion liquid membrane (ELM) process suffers from emulsion instability problem. So far, emulsion produced by mechanical methods such as stirrer and homogenizer has big size and high emulsion breakage. This paper discussed the application of emulsion produced by sonicator to extract cadmium in a batch ELM system. The emulsions consist of N,N-Dioctyl-1-octanamine (trioctylamine/TOA), nitrogen trihydride (ammonia/NH4OH), sorbitan monooleate (Span 80), and kerosene as carrier, stripping solution, emulsifying agent, and organic diluent, respectively. Effects of comprehensive parameters on extraction efficiency of Cd(II) such as emulsification time, extraction time, stirring speed, surfactant concentration, initial feed phase concentration, carrier concentration, volume ratio of the emulsion to feed phase, and pH of initial feed phase were evaluated. The results showed that extraction efficiencies of Cd(II) greater than 98% could be obtained under the following conditions: 15 minutes of emulsification time, 4 wt.% of Span 80 concentration, 4 wt.% of TOA concentration, 15 minutes of extraction time, 250 rpm of stirring speed, 100 ppm of initial feed concentration, volume ratio of emulsion to feed phase of 1:5, and initial feed pH of 1.53.
Separation of strontium ion from synthetic seawater in the contained liquid membrane permeator with two micro-porous films was performed. The permeator consisted of a liquid membrane and two cells for aqueous solutions. The liquid membrane consisted of $D_2EHPA(di-2-ethylhexy1-phosphoric acid)$ and DCH18C6 (dicyclohexano-18-crown-6),diluted to 30 vol% with kerosine and was trapped between two micro-porous hydrophilic films. This liquid membrane separated two aqueous solutions, one of which was synthetic seawater and the other of which was the stripping solutions consisting of 1mol/L $H_2SO_4$ solution. The effects of various operating parameters on the extraction rate and equilibrium extraction ratio of strontium ion from synthetic seawater were experimentally examined. The addition of DCH18C6 to the $D_2EHPA$ solution caused synergy effect on the extraction of strontium ion. The permeator extracted strontium ion from synthetic seawater effectively with high membrane life time.

A scale up tests (380 kg/day) using a continuous solvent extraction and electro-winning system was carried out to separate and recover cobalt from a solution containing 1.91 g/L Co and 14.65 g/L Ni. The solution was obtained during a process including solvent extraction and precipitation stages for removal of Cu and Fe from a synthetic sulfuric acid solution of manganese nodule matte. The optimal condition for solvent extraction was : solvent concentration of 0.22M Na-Cyanex 272 (45% saponified with NaOH) and O:A phase ratios of 1:1.5, 10:1 and 1.5:1 used in extraction, scrubbing and stripping stages, respectively. The extraction and stripping efficiencies were found to be 99.8% and 99.88%, respectively. The stripped solution contained 40.27 g/L Co with 4 ppm Ni. Cobalt metal of 99.963% purity was yielded with current efficiency of 67% and current density of $0.563A/dm^2$ during the electro-winning process.
Emulsion Liquid Membrane (ELM) is a prominent technique for the separation of heavy metal ions from wastewater due to the fast extraction and is a single-stage operation of stripping-extraction. The selection of the components (Surfactant and Carrier) of ELM is a very significant step for its preparation. In the ELM technique, the primary water- in-oil (W/O) emulsion is emulsified in water to produce water-in-oil-in-water (W/O/W) emulsion. The water in oil emulsion was prepared by mixing the membrane phase and internal phase. To prepare the membrane phase, the extractant D2EHPA (di-2-ethylhexylphosphoric acid) was used as a mobile carrier, Span-80 as a surfactant, and Paraffin as a diluent. Moreover, the internal (receiving) phase was prepared by dissolving sulphuric acid in water. Di-(2- ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid such as surfactant concentration, carrier concentration, sulphuric acid concentration in the receiving (internal) phase, agitation time (emulsion phase and feed phase), the volume ratio of the membrane phase to the receiving phase, the volume ratio of the external feed phase to the primary water-in-oil emulsion and pH of feed were studied on the percentage extraction of metal ions at 20℃. The results show that it is possible to remove 78% for As(V), 98% for Cd(II), and 99% for Pb(II). A liquid-liquid solvent extraction process was developed in this study to recover Fe and Ni from heavily concentrated aqueous ferric chloride solution, in an effort to substitute the conventional iron reduction method. Solvent composition and extraction conditions were first developed from the laboratory experiments, and the pilot system was designed and built for commercialization. Stage numbers for extraction and stripping were determined from pilot plant runs, and other operation data were obtained for mass production.
Lipase was separated using reverse mlcelles in a spray column. The 50 mM AOT-Isooctane solution was used as reverse micellar solution for the extraction of lipase (crude containing 25% Protein). Ionic strength was controlled by KCl(0.1M KCl for extraction, 0.5M KCl for back exlractlon). Acetate buffer and phosphate buffer were used for control of pH. The efficiencies of extraction and stripping were 30% and 50%. An increase of circulation did not change the efficiency of extraction in forward extraction. The optimum flow rate was around 0.10ml/sec.
