Solvent extraction experiments for the separation and recovery of Re from hydrochloric acid leaching solution of spent super alloy by Alamine 304-1 were carried out. The effects of some variables, such as the nature and concentration of the extractants, HCl concentration, and the presence of impurities were investigated. The synthetic solutions of Re were prepared by dissolving ammonium perrhenate (APR), Alamine304-1, Cyanex272 and $D_2EHPA$ were used solvent extractants distilled in kerosene. The extraction percentage of Re by Alamine304-1 was higher than the other extractants as Cyanex272 and $D_2EHPA$ and the percentage is about 99%. Only 99% of Re was extracted in the presence of Al, Co and V in HCl solution.
Solvent extraction experiments have been performed to separate Nd and Pr from chloride leaching solution of monazite sand using single Cyanex272 and mixed extractants as PC88A+Cyanex272 and PC88A+TBP. For this purpose, the effect of the concentration of extractants on the extraction and separation of the two metals were studied by varying the pH of aqueous solution. In the experimental ranges conducted in this study, the distribution coefficients of Nd were higher than those of Pr. In Cyanex272 system, our results indicated that concentration of extractant and initial pH did not affect distribution coefficients, but separation factor was increased with increasing initial pH. In binary extractant system, distribution coefficients were lower than those of single PC88A system, whereas separation factor was similar in both mixed and single extractant system.
Separation of Zr(IV) and Hf(IV) from sulfuric acid solutions was investigated by extraction with several acidic extractants such as Versatic acid, LIX 63, and Cyanex 301. From strong sulfuric acid solutions, the separation of Zr(IV) and Hf(IV) by Versatic acid and LIX 63 was not possible, while selective extraction of Hf(IV) over Zr(IV) was obtained with Cyanex 301. However, the extraction percentage of the two metals was much lower compared to that by D2EHPA. Mixing of TBP with Cyanex 301 and D2EHPA led to negative effect on the extraction and separation of the two metal ions. The difference in the extraction reaction and separation selectivity between HCl, $HNO_3$ and $H_2SO_4$ media with each extractant was discussed.
The extraction behavior of Mo(VI) and W(VI) from dilute chloride solution was investigated by employing amine (Alamine308 and TEHA) and neutral extractants (TOP) in the solution pH range from 2 to 9. W (VI) was selectively extracted over Mo(VI) by these three extractants and TEHA led to the highest separation factor. Without the pretreatment protonation of the tertiary amines, the extraction percentage of the two metal ions decreased steadily to zero as solution pH increased to 9. The extraction behavior of the metals was discussed on the basis of the distribution diagram of each metal. Alamine 308 and TEHA were much better than TOP in extracting and separating the two metal ions.
The importance of uranium metal is growing day by day in light of its increasing global demand for fulfilling societal needs through atomic power programs. Considering the high demand for uranium, it is necessary to find innovative hydrometallurgical techniques to separate uranium from other associated elements, especially vanadium. This study deals with the separation of uranium(VI) and vanadium(V) from sulfuric acid solutions using commercial amine-based extractants diluted in kerosene. The concentrations of the sulfuric acid solutions ranged from 0.005 to 5.0 mol/L. The effect of extractant concentration ranging from 0.005 to 0.2 mol/L was studied. The temperature was maintained at 25℃ and the experiment was performed for 30 min at an aqueous: organic phase ratio of 1 (A:O = 1:1). The calculated separation factors (SFs) are presented and comparisons are made among all the experiments.
PVA-D2EHPA/TOPO beads containing two extractants, di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid (D2EHPA) and trioctylphoshine oxide (TOPO) were prepared for the removal of copper ions from aqueous solution. The prepared PVA-D2EHPA/TOPO beads were characterized by SEM and FT-IR. The removal characteristics of copper ions by PVA-D2EHPA/TOPO beads was investigated using batch and continuous systems. In batch experiments, the maximum removal capacity calculated from Langmuir isotherm model was 18.6 mg/g and the optimal pH was in the range of 4.5~6. The continuous experiments showed that the removal capacity of copper ions increased with increasing inlet copper ion concentrations and bed heights, but decreased with increasing inlet flow rates.
Cesium is a major product of uranium fission, which is the most commonly existed radionuclide in radioactive wastes. Various technologies have been applied to separate radioactive cesium from radioactive wastes, such as chemical precipitation, solvent extraction, membrane separation and adsorption. Crown ethers and calixarenes derivatives can selectively coordinate with cesium ions by ion-dipole interaction or cation-π interaction, which are promising extractants for cesium ions due to their promising coordinating structure. This review systematically summarized and analyzed the recent advances in the crown ethers and calixarenes derivatives for cesium separation, especially focusing on the adsorbents based on extractants for cesium removal from aqueous solution, such as the grafting coordinating groups (e.g. crown ether and calixarenes) and coordinating polymers (e.g. MOFs) due to their unique coordination ability and selectivity for cesium ions. These adsorbents combined the advantages of extraction and adsorption methods and showed high adsorption capacity for cesium ions, which are promising for cesium separation The key restraints for cesium separation, as well as the newest progress of the adsorbents for cesium separation were also discussed. Finally, some concluding remarks and suggestions for future researches were proposed.
Succinic acid is of interested as the raw material of biodegradable polymer. In this study, succinic acid was separated by reactive extraction using amine extractants such as TOA (trioctylamine) and Aliquat 336. The extractability of TOA for succinic acid was higher than that of Aliquat 336. The distribution of succinic acid into organic phase was decreased with increasing pH in aqueous phase. However, the effect of pH on the extractability of Aliquat 336 was little. In the case of maleic acid which has similar structure to succinic acid, the extractability for maleic acid was higher than that for succinic acid. It was mainly due to the difficulty of deprotonation of second carboxylic group by intramolecular hydrogen bonding.

As an example of research activities in decontamination for decommissioning, new data are presented on the options for corrosion layer dissolution during the decommissioning decontamination, or persulfate regeneration for decontamination solutions re-use. For the management of spent decontamination solutions, new method based on solvent extraction of radionuclides into ionic liquid followed by electrodeposition of the radionuclides has been developed. Fields of applications of composite inorganic-organic absorbers or solid extractants with polyacrylonitrile (PAN) binding matrix for the treatment of liquid radioactive waste are reviewed; a method for americium separation from the boric acid containing NPP evaporator concentrates based on the TODGA-PAN material is discussed in more detail. Performance of a model of radionuclide transport, developed and implemented within the GoldSim programming environment, for the safety studies of the LLW/ILW repository is demonstrated on the specific case of the Richard repository (Czech Republic). Continuation and even broadening of these activities are expected in connection with the approaching end of the lifespan of the first blocks of the Czech NPPs.
In order to choose a suitable soil extractant for the prediction model of heavy metal content in brown rice, four extractants-0.1 M HCl, 0.1 M $HNO_3$, 0.1 M $NH_4$-oxalate and 0.001 M 2Na-EDTA, were compared by analyzing 84 soil and 45 brown rice samples collected from paddy fields adj-acent to five old zinc-mining sites. Content of cadmium and zinc in brown rice had the highest correlation coefficient to 0.001 M 2Na-EDTA and 0.1 M HCl extractants, respectively. However, the lead content in brown rice was significantly correlated with only 0.1 M $NH_4$oxalate solution. For the simultaneous prediction of zinc, cadmium and lead in brown rice, 0.1 M $NH_4$-oxalate solution was the most effective. On the multiple analysis by using various chemical characteristics of soils, pH and calcium content of soils were effective variables for the estimation of cadmium content in brown rice, while CEC and magnesium content were more effective for the estimation of zinc content in brown rice. Furthermore, for the estimation of lead content in brown rice, factors such as pH, CEC, calcium, magnesium, potassium and organic matter content were important variables in the multiple regression equation.
