During combustion process in a diesel engine radiation heat transfer is the same order of magnitude as the convection heat transfer. An approximation of heat and momentum source distributions is applied at a level consistent with those used in modelling the soot distribution and the turbulence instead of modelling the fuel spray and the chemical kinetics. This paper illustrates a use of the third order spherical harmonics approximation to the radiative transfer equation and delta-Eddington approximation to the scattering phase function for droplets in the flow. Results are obtained numerically by a time marching finite difference scheme. This study aims to compare heat transfer with convection heat transfer and to investigate the importance of scattering by fuel droplets and of accounting for spatial variations in the extinction coefficient on the radiative heat flux distributions at the walls of a disc shaped diesel engine.
A new organic reagent, 1-isonicotynyl-2-furfurylidene hydrazine synthesized from isonicotinic acid hydrazid and furfural, gives yellow liquid with cadmium (II). Cadmium complex of the reagent is soluble in water with yellow coloration. The complex has a maximum absorption at 363 m${\mu}$ and molar ratio of cadmium to reagent was estimated as 1:1 by continuous variation method and slope method. Molecular extinction coefficient and apparent formation constant of this complex was spectrophotometrically determined. K=4.48 $\times$ 10$^{3}$ (Babko's method) K=1.33 $\times$ 10$^{3}$ (Anderson's method)
A new organic reagent, 1-isonicotinoyl-2-furfurylidene hydrazine was synthesized from isonicotinic acid hydrazide and furfural, gives precipitate with copper(II), mercury(II) and argent(I), whereas, it gives a water soluble yellow complex with iron(III). Copper complex of the reagent is soluble in EtOH MtOH, pyridine, dioxane and dimethylformamide with green yellow coloration. The complex has a maximum absorption at 385 m.$\mu$ and molar ratio of copper; reagent was estimated as 1:1 by continuous variation method, slop method and chelate titration method. Molar extinction coefficient (9600) and apparant formation constant of this complex was spectrophotometrically determined. K=1.7 * $10^{7}$ (Babko's method) K=2.1 * $10^{7}$ (Anderson's method). This reagent reacted with copper so sensitive that it would be available for determination of Cu (II).

A deposition rate of styrene thin films is linearly increased, but one of benzene thin films is nonlinearly increased with increasing discharge power under maintaining a polymerization time, pressure and monomer flow rate. And, the reduction of transmittance at shortwave is larger than that of transmittance at longwave. The refractive index with wavelength is various from 1.55 to 1.65. The refractive index of their thin films is decreased with increasing discharge power. Also, it is known that measured results are valid because the calculation of the extinction coefficient is about $10^3$ within variation of refractive index.

The low-k SiOCH thin films were prepared by CCP-PECVD method using BTMSM(Bis-trimethylsilylmethane) precursors deposited on p-Si wafer. The structural complexity originate the complex refractive constants of the films, and resulted the elliptical polarization of the incident linearly polarized light source of Xe-ramp in the range from 190nm to 2100nm. Phase difference and amplitude ratio between s wave and p wave propagating through SiOCH thin film was studied. After annealing, the amplitude of p wave was reduced more than s wave, and phase difference between p and s wave was also reduced.

The optical characteristics of transparent electrode with various kind of materials and thickness to be used for organic photovoltaic cells were studied by simulation methodology. It demonstrated that the transmittance varies with the kinds of materials, the number of layers and change in the thickness of each layer. In the case of the structure composed of dielectric/Ag/dielectric, optimized transmittance was higher than 90% at 550 nm and the thickness of the Ag layer was ~10nm. Top and bottom dielectric materials can be changed with different refractive index and extinction coefficient. The relation between the optical transmittance of device and transparent electrode with different refractive indices was discussed as well. By processing numerical simulations, an optimized optical transmittance can be obtained by tunning the thickness and materials of transparent electrode.
Explosive evaporative removal process of biological tissue by absorption of a CW laser has been simulated by using gelatin and a multimode Nd:YAG laser. Because the point of maximun temperature of laser-irradiated gelatin exists below the surface due to surface cooling, evaporation at the boiling temperature is made explosively from below the surface. The important parameters of this process are the conduction loss to laser power absorption (defined as the conduction-to-laser power parameter, Nk), the convection heat transfer at the surface to conduction loss (defined as Bi), dimensionless extinction coefficient (defined as Br.), and dimensionless irradiation time (defined as Fo). Dependence of Fo on Nk and Bi has been observed by experiment, and the results have been compared with the numerical results obtained by solving a 2-dimensional conduction equation. Fo and explosion depth (from the surface to the point of maximun temperature) are increased when Nk and Bi are increased. To find out the minimum laser power for explosive evaporative removal process, steady state analysis has been also made. The limit of Nk to induce evaporative removal, which is proportional to the inverse of the laser power, has been obtained.
In this work, the fundamental study of on-line monitoring of $SiO_2$ particles in the size range of 40 nm to 725 nm was carried out using turbidimetry. The size of particle was measured using a field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). The factors affecting on the turbidity were discussed, for example, wavelength, size, and concentration. In order to observe the dependence of turbidity on the wavelength, a turbidimetric system equipped with charged coupled detector (CCD) was built. The shape of the transmitted peak was changed and the peak maximum was shifted to the red when the concentration of particle was increased. This result indicates that the turbidity is related to the wavelength, which corresponds to the characteristic of the Mie extinction coefficient, Q, that is a function of not only particle diameter and refractive index but also wavelength. It is clear that a linear calibration curve for each particle in different size can be obtained at an optimized wavelength.

A binary-coupled dipole approximation (BCDA) is described for designing metal nanoparticles with nonperiodic structures in one, two, and three dimensions. This method can be used to simulate the variation of near- and far-field properties through the interactions of metal nanoparticles. An advantage of this method is in its combination with the binary particle swarm optimization (BPSO) algorithm to find the best array of nanoparticles from all possible arrays. The BPSO algorithm has been used to design an array of plasmonic nanospheres to achieve maximum absorption, scattering, and extinction coefficient spectra. In BPSO, a swarm consists of a matrix with binary entries controlling the presence ('1') or the absence ('0') of nanospheres in the array. This approach is useful in optical applications such as solar cells, biosensors, and plasmonic nanoantennae, and optical cloaking.
It is well-known that the scenic visibility achieved in our naked eyes is related with the quality of aerosol condition which is composed of primary and secondary air pollutants. In recent, the IMPROVE organization in U.S.A. has developed two algorithms to estimate the visible length depending on the elements of air pollutant. Using these algorithms, we are to represent the condition of aerosol quality with the well-known scenic images of the observing area so that any one that have no sufficient chemical knowledge may feel and understand the level of air pollution in visuality.
