  • This study examines the co-evolutionary process between open innovation and firms' absorptive capacity. The effects of open innovation can be maximized through the capacity to absorb the knowledge from the external sources such as universities, government-support research institute, and private R&D centers. This study used data of STEPI technology innovation survey conducted at 2002, 2005, and 2008 (3 points measures). The data were analyzed through a structural equation model. Results suggest that open innovation at t0 point influences positively the absorptive capacity at t1 point, which subsequently enhances the intention of open innovation at t2 point. This result suggests the existence of co-evolutionary process between open innovation and firms' absorptive capacity. When knowledge comes from universities, the co-evolution has sustained; whereas when knowledge comes from private firms' R&D centers, the co-evolution has not effected. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

  • The purpose of this case study is to understand the sustainability practices of knowledge transfer process at the Malaysian government-industry-academia consortium. At this stage in the research, the R&D consortium is defined as an established entity by two or more organizations that pool resources and shared decision making for cooperative research and development activities. In attempts to understand the formation, outcomes and sustainability of the sustainable knowledge transfer process, this paper conducted a systematic literature review based on Gough, Oliver and Thomas systematic reviews protocol. From the review, the data were enriched and enhanced with a better understanding of sustainable knowledge transfer process. The systematic review resulted in identifying six factors including internal and external perspectives. However, key sustainability factors are not only directly influencing KTP, and the consortium, but are also mediated by other organisational variables.

  • Control of tool-environment interaction force to comply the robot system to an environment is of vital in many automated process. This paper presents the implementation of an adaptive force control with commercial robot system in two dimensional contour following task. A model reference adaptive control system, combined with the linear compensators, is implemented. That is, a use of adaptive control is to provide an auxiliary control system so that the contour following performance can be improved from that of using linear control system only. Hyperstability is used to derive the adaptive control law. Experimental verification of the proposed control system is obtained using PUMA 560 robot system. Data obtained experimentally shows that the use of additional adaptive control system improves the contour following performance about 30% in RMS contact force errors upon that of the system controlled by the linear compensators only.

  • Recently, the vibration reduction at a local structure such as compass deck has been continuously requested by ship owner and shipbuilder. Because crews are afflicted with vibration, severe vibration problems even bring about a damage of structure. This study conducted to get an optimized stiffener size of compass deck to reduce the vibration level and decrease the weight of structure in ship. NASTRAN external call type optimization software (OptShip) which makes use of NASTRAN as a solver is used as an optimization tool. The results indicate that the optimum design is promising for real applications.

  • We have developed tight bonding of plastic LCD with new rigid spacer. For tight bonding of two plastic substrates, we designed structures to collect UV or thermal epoxy placed on the top of rigid spacer spontaneously by capillary effect. We confirmed that tight bonded plastic LCD has a good adhesion without induced defects and a high mechanical stability against the various external deformations. This method can be applicable to the fabrication of large plastic LCDs using stamping process.

  • We studied to select the best consolidant and water-repellentsynthesis resins on the weathering caused by many factors(temperature variation, ultraviolet light, moisture, salt etc.) for using internal or external of stone cultural properties. The specimen〔granite(Pochon-suk), granite(Hwangdung-suk), tuff(in Kyong-ju)〕was treated by Wacker OH, Wacker OH 100, Wacker 290L, D.W.R, SS-101and tested in the five kinds of test and analyzed. After all test, D.W.R is the excellent results on the measuring of the property of matter. Especially, water-repellent efficiency is the best.

  • In order to achieve iterative design in early R&D period, a Distributed and Real-time Integrated Simulation System for avionics based on a Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) method is proposed. The proposed simulation system includes driver, simulation model, monitor, flight visual model and aircraft external model. The effect of this simulation system in iterative design and system verification is testified by several use cases. The result shows that the simulation system, which can play an important role in iterative design and system verification, can reduce project costs and shorten the entire R&D period.

  • The aim of this study was to apply the external ionic gelation using an atomizing spray device comprised of a spray gun to improve the viability of Lactobacillus plantarum DKL 109 and for its commercial use. Three coating material formulas were used to microencapsulate L. plantarum DKL 109: 2% alginate (Al), 1% alginate/1% gellan gum (Al-GG), and 1.5% alginate/3% gum arabic (Al-GA). Particle size of microcapsules was ranged from 18.2 to $23.01{\mu}m$ depending on the coating materials. Al-GA microcapsules showed the highest microencapsulation yield (98.11%) and resulted in a significant increase in survivability of probiotic in a high acid and bile environment. Encapsulation also improved the storage stability of cells. The viability of encapsulated cells remained constant after 1-mon storage at ambient temperature. The external ionic gelation method using an atomizing spray device and the Al-GA seems to be an efficient encapsulation technology for protecting probiotics in terms of scale-up potential and small microcapsule size.

  • Objective: This study was designed to investigate treatment efficacy and side effects of concomitant Aisu$^{(R)}$ (docetaxel) with three-dimensional conformal external beam radiotherapy for the treatment of inoperable patients with esophageal cancer. Methods: Inoperable patients were treated with three-dimensional conformal external beam radiotherapy (5/week, 2 GY/day, and total dose 60GY) plus docetaxel ($30-45mg/m^2$, iv, d1, 8). Results: Twenty eight patients met the study eligibility criteria and the response rate was evaluated according to RICIST guidelines. Among 28 patients, 2 achieved CR, 22 PR, 3 SD and 1 patient was documented PD. Mild gastrointestinal reaction and bone marrow suppression were also documented. All treatment related side effects were tolerable. Conclusion: Three-dimensional conformal external beam radiotherapy combined with docetaxel is an active and safe regimen for inoperable patients with esophageal cancer.
