The factors affecting shear strength and friction characteristics of the fiber-mixed soil can be classified into engineering properties of soil; particle-size, distribution, and particle shape, physical and mechanical properties of fiber; shape, length, diameter, tensile strength, elastic modulus, friction coefficient, and mixed ratio and external factors; confined stress and compaction condition. In this study, a series of shear friction tests and pull-out tests were performed to evaluate the friction properties of fiber-mixed soil according to soil type, fiber type, fiber mixed ratio and compaction degree. The materials and test conditions used in this study are as follows. Soils: SM and ML; mixing fibers: three types of polypropylene fibers(net type 38mm and 60mm, and line type 60mm); reinforcement: geogrid; mixing ratio: 0.2% and 0.3%; degree of compaction : 85% and 95%.

This research is carried out for the performance evaluation of the injector that is one of the critical components of bipropellant-rocket-engine. Spray characteristics are investigated in detail according to the recess length and injection pressure on the swirl-coaxial-injector using gaseous methane and liquid oxygen as propellants. A visualization is conducted by the Schlieren photography that is composed of a light source, concave mirrors, knife, and high-speed-camera. A hollow-cone-shape is identified in the liquid spray that is spread only by inner injector and the spray angle is decreased due to the diminution of swirl strength in accordance with the increase of the length of injector orifice. When the injector sprays the liquid through the inner injector with the aid of gas through the outer injector, the spray angle in external mixing region tends to increase with rise of the recess length, while in internal mixing region, it is decreased. It is also confirmed that the same tendency of the spray angle with recess length appears irrespective of the injection pressure of liquid spray.
Recently, iron oxide nanoparticles have been used as the subject of many studies on drug delivery system (DDS) due to their excellent magnetic properties and biocompatibility in response to external magnetic fields. In this study, hyaluronic acid-superparamagnetic microneedles (HA-SMNs) and carboxy methyl cellulose-superparamagnetic microneedles (CMC-SMNs) containing superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SIONs) were prepared with HA and CMC as a matrix materials of MNs (microneedles). Various properties of SMNs were then investigated with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), superconducting quantum interference device-vibrating sample magnetometer (SQUD-VSM), frequency mixing magnetic detection (FMMD), and polymer/bio membrane. The SQUID-VSM measurements showed superparamagnetism of HA-SMNs and CMC-SMNs containing SIONs. The FMMD results demonstrated that the signal intensity changed significantly as the concentration of SIONs increased. In addition, SMNs exhibited the average skin permeability intensities on the bio membrane for HA-SMNs and CMC-SMNs were 92.5 and 98.5%, respectively. These results suggested that SMNs could be utilized as deliver materials for a TDDS and MR molecular imaging.

The Aft-deck is being applied to the latest unmanned aircraft for the purpose of shielding the gas turbine exhaust plume or spreading jets to increase the mixing rate with the ambient air, thereby reducing the temperature of exhaust gases. In this study, we would like to find out how the performance of the nozzle is affected by the design variables of the Aft-deck. The design variables of aft-deck are selected as length, expansion angle and upper deck shape. The correlation between thrust and plume shielding rate with the length variable is presented. And the correlation between the thrust and the jet diffusion range is presented according to the expansion angle. In addition, the thrust increase effect is confirmed by the removal of the upper deck and the characteristics of transverse velocity vector determined mixing performance with external flow.

In external chemical vapor deposition processes including VAD and OVD the distribution of flame-synthesized silica particles is determined by heat and mass transfer limitations to particle formation. Combustion gas flow velocities are such that the particle diffusion time scale is longer than that of gas flow convection in the zone of particle formation. The consequence of these effects is that the particles formed tend to remain along straight smooth flow stream lines. Silica particles are formed due to oxidation and hydrolysis. In the hydrolysis, the particles are formed in diffuse bands and particle formation thus requires the diffusion of SiCl$\_$4/ toward CH$\_$4//O$\_$2/ combustion zone to react with H$\_$2/O diffusing away from these same zones on the torch face. The conversion kinetics of hydrolysis is fast compared to diffusion and the rate of conversion is thus diffusion-limited. In the language of combustion, the hydrolysis occurs as a Burke-Schumann process. In selected conditions, reaction zone shape and temperature distributions predicted by the Burke-Schumann analysis are introduced and compared with experimental data available. The calculated centerline temperatures inside the reaction zone agree well with the data, but the calculated values outside the reaction zone are a little higher than the data since the analysis does not consider diffusion in the axial direction and mixing of the combustion products with ambient air. The temperatures along the radial direction agree with the data near the centerline, but gradually diverge from the data as the distance is away from the centerline. This is caused by the convection in the radial direction, which is not considered in the analysis. Spatial distribution of silica particles are affected by convection and diffusion, resulting in a Gaussian form in the radial direction.

A CFD analysis was performed to examine the inner channel blockage of dual-cooled fuel which has being developed for the power uprate of a pressurized water reactor (PWR). The dual-cooled fuel consists of an annular fuel pellet($UO_2$) and dual claddings as well as internal and external cooling channels. The dual-cooled annular fuel is different from a conventional solid 려el by employing an internal cooling channel for each fuel pellet as well as an external cooling channel. One of the key issues is the hypothetical event of inner channel blockage because the inner channel is an isolated flow channel without the coolant mixing between the neighboring flow channels. The inner channel blockage could cause the Departure from Nucleate Boiling (DNB) in the inner channel that eventually causes a fuel failure. This paper presents the CFD simulation of the flow through the side holes of the bottom end plug for the complete entrance blockage of the inner channel. Since the amount of coolant supply to the inner channel depends on largely the pressure loss at the side hole, the pressure loss coefficient of the side hole was estimated by the CFD analysis. The CFD prediction of the loss coefficient showed a reasonable agreement with an experimental data for the complete blockage of both the inner channel entrance and the outer channel. The CFD predictions also showed the decrease of the loss coefficient as the outer channel blockage increases.
A membrane-coupled sequencing batch reactor (MSBR) was used for the advanced treatment of rural village sewage which is very low C/N ratio. The effect of powdered activated carbon, aeration rate, and external organic material loadings on the treatment efficiency and filtration performance were investigated in sequencing batch reactor, in which a flat-sheet type microfiltration membrane with a pore size of $0.4{\mu}m$ was submerged. At the initial operation (within 54 days) MLSS concentration, and the removal efficiencies of COD, T-N, and T-P were increased with the increase of C/N ratio. After 89 days the removal efficiencies of COD, T-N, and T-P were 97.1%, 75.0%, and 48.3%, respectively. Suspended solid-free effluent was obtained by membrane filtration. The T-P removal was relatively low because of depending on the amount of excess sludge wasting. During the operation of MSBR with powdered activated carbon, the particle size of the sludge reduced by the increase of collision frequency and mixing intensity. In comparison with MSBR without powdered activated carbon, TMP of MSBR with that was significantly elevated.
The effects of measurement conditions on the emulsifying capacity(EC) and emulsion stability(ES) of proteins were studied in order to develop laboratory standard methods for the evaluation of emulsifying properties. The EC of proteins decreased with the increments of protein concentration and mixing rate. It increased with the increasing oil addition rate up to 0.8 ml/sec, but did not change at $0.8{\sim}1.2\;ml/sec$. The addition of sodiumchloride enhanced EC of proteins, attaining to the highest EC at 0.3M NaCl for Pro-Fam and 0.1M NaCl for Na-caseinate. The ES of Pro-Fam was higher than that of caseinate. The ES was increased by the increments of protein concentration, oil addition volume, mixing rate and mixing time. The EC and ES showed a close relation to the NSI of proteins, reaching to the lowest values of EC and ES at the isoelectric regions of proteins. The laboratory methods for measurements of emulsifying properties of proteins were established. The emulsifying properties of a laboratory-made soybean protein isolate were compared to those of commercial products by using the methods.
Pitch-coated anatase $TiO_2$ typed was prepared by $CCl_4$ solvent mixing method with different mixing ratios. Since the carbon layers derived from pitch on the $TiO_2$ particles were porous, the pitch-coated $TiO_2$ sample series showed a good adsorptivity and photo decomposition activity. The BET surface area depends on the pitch contents, which was made by changing the mixing ratios of the pitch with the raw $TiO_2$. The SEM results present to the characterization of porous texture on the pitch-coated $TiO_2$ sample and pitch distributions on the surfaces for all the materials used. From XRD data, a weak and broad carbon peak of graphene with pristine anatase peaks were observed in the X-ray diffraction patterns for the pitch-coated $TiO_2$. The EDX spectra show the presence of C, O and S with strong Ti peaks. Most of these samples are richer in carbon and major Ti metal than any other elements. Finally, the excellent photocatalytic activity of pitchcoated $TiO_2$ with Uv/Vis spectra between absorbance and time could be attributed to the homogeneous coated pitch on the external surface by $CCl_4$ solvent method.
The procedure of conceptual and detailed design of sub-scale combustor using bipropellant swirl or impinging injector with external or internal mixing for a liquid rocket engine are described in this paper. The sub-scale combustor uses liquid oxygen(LOx) and kerosene as propellants and has a injector head, an ablative material combustor wall and a water cooled nozzle. The injector head has LOx manifold, fuel manifold, fire face plate, one center swirl or impinging injector and 18 main swirl or impinging injectors.
