  • This study has two purposes. One is to systematize a number of referents and to examine the types of comparisons. The other is to examine categories of comparative standards such as inputs in equity theory. In pay comparison process, referents and inputs are very important elements. The first factor analysis is related to referents, which include 18 variables in 6 categories were subjected to factor analysis. 3 factors emerge with an eigenvalue of 1.0 or greater. Factor I, economic need, includes referents in personal worth and system referent. Factor II, market comparison, includes internal and external referents except one variable(external-peer). Between internal and external referents is not distinguished. This result is corresponded with Hills'(1980) and Hong's(1995) findings. FactorIII is named 'historical/social comparisons'. 14 inputs are subjected to the second factor analysis. 3 factors emerge with an eigenvalue of 1.0 or greater. The 5 variables loading on factor I, equity standard, are responsibility, competency, effort, outcome, and skill. FactorII, equality standard, includes age, gender, and education. FactorIII, seniority standard, includes career and company tenure. All the factors are positively associated with each other. Especially, personal worth is associated with equity standard(r=0.50466). Internal and external referents are associated with any comparative standard.

  • Net pressures on roofs and walls of buildings are dependent on the internal and external pressure fluctuations. The variation of internal and external pressures are influenced by the size and location of the openings. The correlation of external and internal pressure influences the net pressures acting on cladding on different parts of the roof and walls. The peak internal and peak external pressures do not occur simultaneously, therefore, a reduction can be applied to the peak internal and external pressures to obtain a peak net pressure for cladding design. A 1:200 scale wind tunnel model study was conducted to determine the correlations of external and internal pressures and effective reduction to net pressures (i.e., net pressure factors, FC) for roof and wall cladding. The results show that external and internal pressures on the windward roof and wall edges are well correlated. The largest ${\mathcal{C}}_{{\check{p},net}$, highest correlation coefficient and the highest FC are obtained for different wind directions within 90° ≤ θ ≤ 135°, where the large openings are on the windward wall. The study also gives net pressure factors FC for areas on the roof and wall cladding for nominally sealed buildings and the buildings with a large windward wall opening. These factors indicate that a 5% to 10% reduction to the action combination factor, KC specified in AS/NZS 1170.2(2011) is possible for some critical design scenarios.

  • In this paper, a method of increasing in load-carrying capacity is shown in two-span steel-concrete composite bridges strengthened by external tendons. An analytic expression for the increment of tendon force under external loads is derived using virtual work method for straight external tendons and a new rating factor equation is proposed. Considering the initial tendon force and its increment under external loads, an analytic procedure has been developed to calculate the number of tendons and the initial tendon force from the proposed rating factor equation. This method is used to verify a validity and rationality for an existing two-span composite steel-concrete bridge.

  • In this research, the dynamic stability of an orthotropic elastic conical shell, with elasticity moduli and density varying in the thickness direction, subject to a uniform external pressure which is a power function of time, has been studied. After giving the fundamental relations, the dynamic stability and compatibility equations of a nonhomogeneous elastic orthotropic conical shell, subject to a uniform external pressure, have been derived. Applying Galerkin's method, these equations have been transformed to a pair of time dependent differential equations with variable coefficients. These differential equations are solved using the method given by Sachenkov and Baktieva (1978). Thus, general formulas have been obtained for the dynamic and static critical external pressures and the pertinent wave numbers, critical time, critical pressure impulse and dynamic factor. Finally, carrying out some computations, the effects of the nonhomogeneity, the loading speed, the variation of the semi-vertex angle and the power of time in the external pressure expression on the critical parameters have been studied.

  • The purpose of the research is analyzing how the emotional factors of the external apartment design can be influenced by the consumers' emotional reaction, and analyzing how the emotional reaction of the consumers will affect the expenditure of the apartment in the upcoming future. For this purpose, first, external surrounding factors of the apartment are extracted and then classified into three major design categories (instinctive, behavioral, and reflective design), and each factor is evaluated by the emotional evaluation. The scope of the research is restricted to the apartments in Daegu city which are built by Top 3 construction companies from the analysis of construction-working rank (May, 2010). The residential-expenditure data are extracted from D-univ. students, in accordance with the satisfaction of the external surroundings and emotional-reaction against the emotional-design factors of the apartment. This research is done by the statistic analysis program SPSS17.0. This shows that difference of emotional design by the apartment external space requisites will be significance as fundamental data for development of application and planning and apartment external space of emotional design by the apartment external space in the future.

  • A method to determine the initial force of external tendon is proposed to improve the load carrying capacity in existing steel-concrete composite bridges. This method is applied to tensioning external tendons prior to and after concrete replacement for strengthening composite girders. A procedure to determine the number of tendon and initial tendon force is described with the proposed rating factor, which considers the increment of tendon force due to live loads. The method is applied to the improvement of rating factor in an existing composite bridge and its validity is confirmed.

  • To investigate the wind load characteristics of a large-span spherical shell structure, a rigid model pressure test was conducted in a wind tunnel laboratory. The study aimed to examine the impact of various external structures and internal stacking forms on the wind loads of a spherical shell structure in a practical engineering project. This project features two adjacent spherical structures, each spanning 130 m and standing 67 m tall. These two structures are connected by trestles and a transfer station. Variations in the shape factor and the integral force coefficient of the structure were compared and analyzed under different test cases. The results indicate that when two structures are arranged in series, with the adjacent structure positioned upstream, the shape factor of the structure is most affected, resulting in a significant reduction effect at the bottom of the windward surface. Compared to the external structure, the impact of various internal stacking forms on the shape factor of the structure is relatively weak. The adjacent structure significantly improves the wind resistance of the main structure. The integral force coefficient of the structure reaches its peak when internal stacking is full and is at its lowest when there is no internal stacking.
