  • In order to stabilize the price of fresh ginseng by extension of seasonal variation and marketing structure, and to reduce the cost of production by works of intensive and short term, studies were carried out. As fresh ginseng of 4 years old by the MA and CA was stored for 12 week at 4$^{\circ}C$, samples were collected after every 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12 weeks for processing red ginseng. Color and Sensual characteristics on ginseng steamed red for the quality evaluation are summarized as follows. For the time course of storage with red ginseng, which was processed from fresh one after various treatments, L and b values were decreased, however a value was increased. In particular, absorbance was step-wisely increased. Turbidity was somewhat increased, and non-treatment of preservative were shown 2 times higher of absorbance. Extraction ratio of ethanol-soluble extractives slightly increased by the preservation methods, and as storage period was passed. CA storage and preservative treat merit versus MA and non-preservative treatment gave much stability in ginseng quality. In the sensual characters, sour taste and sweet taste were increased, but fresh taste and rice scorched taste were decreased. Bitter taste was not much changed until end of storage. CA was shown smaller differences than MA in the pH change. Addition of preservative extended the storage time.

  • In order to enhance suitable processing methods of imported Pacific saury, Cololabis saira, storage stability of seasoned-dried Pacific saury (imported product) treated with liquid smoke (T2 product) was compared with a control (C, seasoning only) and T1 (treatment of 0.05% BHT instead of liquid smoke). The histamine contents of 3 seasoned-dried products were within a stable range (9.08 ~ 12.08 mg/100 g) during storage. The water activities of all products were in the 0.698 ~ 0.755 range. The viable cell count of T2 was lower than those of C and T1 during storage. The change in color values of C, T1 and T2 were not significant with increasing storage period. The results of the sensory evaluation during storage showed that the shelf-life of T2 was extended to 60 days, while those of C and T1 were limited to up to 45 days.

  • To extend the shelf-life of spinach after harvest, we investigated the effect of various packaging methods and storage temperature. In case of polypropylene film package, there was no weight loss, but in non-package, remarkably weight loss occurred as storage period extended and storage temperature risen. Content of vitamin C was decreased rapidly at early stage of storage, and decrease of vitamin C in low temperature storage was lower than that of room temperature storage, but its large difference according to packaging method was not observed. In hunter's value on spinach, b value in room temperature storage was higher than that of low temperature storage. In terms of freshness, shelf-life of spinach by low temperature storage $(1{\sim}3^{\circ}C)$ after PP film packaging lasted 34 days, and that by room temperature storage $(10{\sim}15^{\circ}C)$ after PP film packaging lasted 8 days, but that by room temperature storage after non-packaging lasted 3 days.

  • We report results of Extended Leak-Off Test (XLOT) conducted in a large diameter borehole, which is drilled for installation of deep borehole geophysical monitoring system to monitor micro-earthquakes and fault behavior of major fault zones in the southeastern Korean Peninsula. The borehole was planned to secure a final diameter of 200 mm (or more) at a depth of ~1 km, with 12" diameter wellbore to intermediate depths, and 7-7/8" (~200 mm) to the bottom hole depth. We drilled first the 12" borehole to approximately 504 m deep and installed American Petroleum Institute standard 8-5/8" casing, then annulus between the casing and bedrock was fully cemented. XLOT was carried out for several purposes such as confirming casing and cementing integrity, measuring rock stress states. To that end, we drilled additional 4 m long open hole interval to directly inject water and pressurize into the rock mass using the upper API casings. During the XLOT, flow rates and interval pressures were recorded in real time. Based on the logs we tried to analyze hydraulic conductivity of the test interval.

  • The study on the duration of risk in the marine insurance has been paid a great attention because the marine insurance has to provide several indemnity conditions including the one to be compensated the loss when the accident happens. The research examines as to how the duration of risk has been extended from the beginning period to now. The results show the duration of risk has been continually extended in terms of place and time by a dramatic change of environment related to the marine insurance including marine transportation, a variety of goods, development of marine communication, many different trading conditions, etc, and requirement of the assured. The validity of the duration of risk is effected when the ship leaves at the port and is terminated when the ship arrives at the final destination. It in the Lloyd's age has been started when the products was charged to the ship and terminated when the one was safely discharged to the destination. Recently, the duration of risk in England Marine Insurance attaches from the time the goods leave the warehouse or place of storage at the placed named for the commencement of the transit, continues during the ordinary course of transit and terminates on delivery to the consignees or other final warehouse or place of storage at the destination named. Further research on the extension of the duration of risk must be conducted according to the being large scale of the ship and goods.

  • With the development of wireless network technology, the location information of a spatiotemporal object which changes their location is used in various application. Each spatiotemporal object has many location information, hence it is inefficient to search all trajectory information of spatiotemporal objects for a range query. In this paper, we propose an efficient method which divides a trajectory and stores its division data on restricted storage space. Using suboptimal split algorithm, an extended split algorithm that minimizes the volume of EMBRs(Extended Minimum Bounding Box) is designed and simulated. Our experimental evaluation confirms the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed splitting policy

  • This research investigates the impact of charge spreading on the data retention of three-dimensional (3D) silicon-oxide-nitride-oxide-silicon (SONOS) flash memory where the charge trapping layer is shared along the cell string. In order to do so, this study conducts an electrical analysis of the planar SONOS test pattern where the silicon nitride charge storage layer is not isolated but extends beyond the gate electrode. Experimental results from the test pattern show larger retention loss in the devices with extended storage layers compared to isolated devices. This retention degradation is thought to be the result of an additional charge spreading through the extended silicon nitride layer along the width of the memory cell, which should be improved for the successful 3-D application of SONOS flash devices.

  • Current computer technologies developing. our requirements are changing from simple alpha-numeric processing to graphic and image. spatial data processing which are easy for user to understand and use. Geographic information system is a kind of spatial database system that can not only print out the data in the form of maps but also manipulate. store. retrieve. and analyze the geographic data. It is efficient system that can process the spatial data which has a geographical feature and its relative attribute data. Conventional relational database management systems are not suitable for spatial data processing, so we need to design the spatial database mana-gement system which is suitable for efficient spatial data processing. In this paper we design the extended storage management system that supports the spatial index technique that allows user to access fast and store and manage the enormous spatial data efficiently like geographic information system.

  • This paper proposed a regenerative braking system (RBS) strategy for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) with a hybrid energy storage system (HESS) driven by a brushless DC (BLDC) motor. In the regenerative braking mode of BEV, the BLDC motor works as a generator. Consequently, the DC-link voltage is boosted and regenerative braking energy is transferred to a battery and/or ultracapacitor (UC) using a suitable switching pattern of the three-phase inverter. The energy stored in the HESS through reverse current flow can be exploited to improve acceleration and maintain the batteries from frequent deep discharging during high power mode. In addition, the artificial neural network (ANN)-based RBS control mechanism was utilized to optimize the switching scheme of the vehicular breaking force distribution. Furthermore, constant torque braking can be regulated using a PI controller. Different simulation and experiments were implemented and carried out to verify the performance of the proposed RBS strategy. The UC/battery RBS also contributed to improved vehicle acceleration and extended range BEVs.
