  • This paper proposes an approach of a novel facial expression recognition to deal with different intensities to improve a performance of a facial expression recognition. Various expressions and intensities of each person make an affect to decrease the performance of the facial expression recognition. The effect of different intensities of facial expression has been seldom focused on. In this paper, a face expression template and an expression-intensity distribution model are introduced to recognize different facial expression intensities. These techniques, facial expression template and expression-intensity distribution model contribute to improve the performance of facial expression recognition by describing how the shift between multiple interest points in the vicinity of facial parts and facial parts varies for different facial expressions and its intensities. The proposed method has the distinct advantage that facial expression recognition with different intensities can be very easily performed with a simple calibration on video sequences as well as still images. Experimental results show a robustness that the method can recognize facial expression with weak intensities.

  • The purpose of this study is to be applied with the basic data for the design method in the housing space which is differential. So, we analyzed the expression method and the application characteristic to materials of units in housing complex. To that, we researched on the condition of finishing material about the kind of material, color, texture and pattern for components in living room space. The results of this study are as follows : First, at the present time, the Object concept is expressed by 'mixing' and 'juxtaposition' of material, texture and pattern of finishing materials in housing space. But, we could find that the Object concept was used restrictively in housing space. So, we have to find different expression methods to be the effective and differential design by being applied Object concept for the housing space. Second, the 'mixing' which is the method to express the Object concept is showed in only 'art wall'. so, we can estimate that the method is the limited method to plan the varied housing. It is needed various expression methods to design components for the housing space. Third, it showed that the 'mixing' was a passive expression method using a little differential for design of housing space. We could estimate that similar methods were applied to the housing design. By results of this study, we can think that the develop study is needed to find design methods for expression of the Object in housing space.

  • The lobby is the space that contributes the most to conveying the first impression of an enterprise or company that is occupying a building, and enhances the quality of the urban or business environment around an office building. Transparency is the biggest change in architecture since the modern age began, and it is the most important element of the lobby expression methods. Therefore this study was an attempt to understand the expression method of transparency which is expressed in the lobby space of office buildings, and used documentary survey and field survey to analyze it. In the examination of the theoretical background of transparency to make a specific study purpose, and based on an on-the-spot probe document, an attempt was made to grasp the expression method of Visual Transparency and Phenomenal Transparency. The data collected during this investigation was studied and a correlation coefficient. A summary of the findings of this study is as follows: 1) Transparent materials does not appear often in floors. But Phenomenal Transparency material is used in the floor. 2) During the survey it was discovered that Visual Transparency was often used in the walls of each investigated building. Phenomenal Transparency materials are found less in walls than in the floors of lobbies. 3) The expression methods that appeared the most in ceilings among the Visual Transparent expression methods. In the case of Phenomenal Transparency, the highest distribution is seen in ceilings. 4) The result of the analyzation of the correlation coefficient of Visual Transparency and Phenomenal Transparency is as follows: Expression method: There is more than one expression method of transparency, 'Open Sight', 'Light Material' and 'Surface Material' methods were introduced in case of the introduction of 'Transparent Material' among Visual Transparency in office building lobby space planning. If the 'Superimposed Space' method is introduced, then the 'Ambiguous Border' or 'Dual Sight' methods are introduced.

  • The expression of the movement in the animation is one of important factors built up the work. It is determined wholly by the experiences of the animator in the animation, on the contrary, the expression of movie depends on the data obtained from the motion capture or the movement of the actors. One of the most important factors is the timing expression in expression of movement of characters and the proper understanding of direction circumstance and the expression of the timing make the animation more plentiful visually and also these are the basic method that introduce the feeling to the characters. In this study we Identify the basic principles of timing expression in the animation, make experiments for the changes of timing by the camera's angle, compare them and show the most proper methods of timing expression.

  • Gene expression data are the quantitative measurements of expression levels and ratios of numberous genes in different situations based on microarray image analysis results. The process to draw meaningful information related to genomic diseases and various biological activities from gene expression data is known as gene expression data analysis. In this paper, we present a hierarchical clustering method of gene expression data based on self organizing map which can analyze the clustering result of gene expression data more efficiently. Using our proposed method, we could eliminate the uncertainty of cluster boundary which is the inherited disadvantage of self organizing map and use the visualization function of hierarchical clustering. And, we could process massive data using fast processing speed of self organizing map and interpret the clustering result of self organizing map more efficiently and user-friendly. To verify the efficiency of our proposed algorithm, we performed tests with following 3 data sets, animal feature data set, yeast gene expression data and leukemia gene expression data set. The result demonstrated the feasibility and utility of the proposed clustering algorithm.

  • Tracking human facial expression within a video image has many useful applications, such as surveillance and teleconferencing, etc. Initially, the Active Appearance Model (AAM) was proposed for facial recognition; however, it turns out that the AAM has many advantages as regards continuous facial expression recognition. We have implemented a continuous facial expression recognition system using the AAM. In this study, we adopt an independent AAM using the Inverse Compositional Image Alignment method. The system was evaluated using the standard Cohn-Kanade facial expression database, the results of which show that it could have numerous potential applications.

  • This study suggests method of expression of nail art utilizing Salvador Dali's Paranoiac Critical Method and produced the actual works based on discussions on Salvador Dali's painting, Paranoiac Critical Method, Nail Art's artistry and technique of expression. The result of the study is as follows: 1) Characteristic of Dali's painting is a Paranoiac Critical Method. If suggesting this characteristic in a method of expression of nail art, a good work which can be expressed on a small space, a nail, representing Dali is selected and 5 tips which are very similar to the rate of the painting are used in order to obtain an aesthetic effect just like a painting. And after composing on tips using the whole paining or part of painting, actual techniques of expression such as Hand Painting, Protranse or Water Decal are used. 2) the result of nail art produced utilizing Dali's Paranoiac Critical Method is as follows. Most of all, for nail art I with the topic of "The Persistence of Memory" (1931), after giving changes to 5 tips for the watch which is a part of the painting, Hand Painting technique is used using Acrylic Painting with colors which are similar colors to the painting. Then for nail art II which adopted "Slave Market with Invisible Bust of Voltaire" (1940), the whole painting is divided into 5 tips and Protranse technique which attaches printed paper onto nails was used. Lastly, for nail art III with the subject of "The Enigma of Desire My Mother, My Mother, My Mother" (1929), Water Decal which is emphasizing the parts of the painting and composing on 5 tips and copying printed picture onto Water Transfer Paper in order to attach on the nails is used. These nail arts show aesthetic characteristics such as fantasy, unconsciousness, grotesque, infinity, non-realism and horror just like paintings.

  • We developed a musical composition and performing method for the dynamic expression of food taste, to replace the static expression obtained from a numerical sensory score and linguistic method. The musical score was composed using cognitive food sensory data gathered while eating potato chips via a computer equipped with a sound card and a master keyboard, as well as Cakewalk 9.0, Goldwave 5.0, and Windows Media Player. The music score included four lines, one representing sensory data and three reflecting three layers of human consciousness. Different time units were applied by incorporating different repetition cycles for the relevant consciousness layers. The musical scores of individual subjects differed in terms of the score pattern and its sound. The music representing food taste was played by four instruments and showed different sound and acoustic frequency patterns for each individual subject during the consumption of potato chips. The musical expression method was applied to analyze the individual taste characteristics in the cognition of food.

  • Appearance finish is important for amorphous buildings to maximize amorphousness, and GFRC, glass, and metal are mostly used as exterior materials for amorphous buildings currently applied. However, the existing exterior materials showed limitations in amorphous expression, texture, and color expression. In this study, a 3D stereoscopic panel mold was manufactured using the FDM method, one of the 3D printing technologies, and 3D stereoscopic panel production was reviewed using Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC), which has excellent physical and mechanical performance and expression. In order to overcome the limitations of unstructured expression, a UHPC 3D stereoscopic panel using the FDM method, one of the 3D printing technologies, was manufactured. Unlike steel molds, FRP molds, and EPS molds, the FDM method can be applied to various materials, and complex shapes are implemented. If it is used using recyclable materials as well as PLA filaments used in the FDM method, it will overcome the limitations of amorphous expression and activate the production of 3D stereoscopic panels that have secured eco-friendliness.
